  • This was back when PC gamin at its best .

  • we're so stupid they are so smart Thumbs UP

  • HR giger

  • Dune is a wonderful scifi

  • @1987Challenger3, @TheWhiteRose161718 More like your hyperbolic commentary=what the fuck=try making sense=NO ONE IS LIKE THE EXECTRIX JESUS CHRIST STOP BEING RETARDED

  • house ordos for life bitchez!!!!!!

  • Ah I miss the Westwood logo into

  • Nyarlathotep :P

  • The executrix looks like a Borg.

  • What could possibly be the point of this? In the midst of debates on financial regulation and China's currency in April, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner sat down to discuss the U.S. economy — with comedian Jon Stewart. Geithner and Stewart, host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," held an off-the-record meeting at Stewart's office in New York on April 2, according to Geithner's appointments calendar, updated through August on Treasury's website

  • A bit grayer and world wearier, maybe, but there's no mistaking the family resemblance between NYSE Chief Operating Office Larry Leibowitz and his kid brother Jon Stewart.. The Wall Street Journal interviewed him in a story about the NYSE's effort to turn some high frequency traders — who have been chipping away at the exchange's business — into exchange floor traders.

  • The Executrix=American Corporate Controlled Media=Chaos "Magic"=clever and contradictory propaganda

  • @TheWhiteRose161718 more like European brainwashed Government=Executrix

  • @1987Challenger3 True enough, although there's plenty of cooperation between the two. Don't forget the US pharm industry and the giant $ucking sound they make as they and their minions have infiltrated our hospitals, legal systems, and doctor offices,...and the drive to manipulate DNA in food and humans on both sides of the pond, but most epsecially here in America. They even arrest farmers for sharing raw milk&the FDA attacks natural remedies while promoting meds "that may cause death".

  • @TomSawyerSpongeRay I doubt FOX shares a mind with CNN, MSNBC and CNBC.

  • Aaah Ordos, The FAKE house of dune.

Long live Harkonnen, No fake houses that doesn´t exist in the novels!

  • Hey, Join the "We want a new Dune" group on FB!

  • @SvitjodsWarrior

Your wish has been granted! A new Dune game has been released, re-imagined to be more appealing to the current market. Thus, it features visceral gory combat, a mature and serious storyline for mature and serious gamers, romance options, all of them with the same gender as you. Also, its a FPS set in the 70´s Russia

  • All other considerations are trivial - The Executrix

  • westwood was the best

    rip

  • The only house I couldn't get a liking to. The Atreides were very sympathetic, and had an interesting story going on with the Fremen. The Harkonnen were... yeah... evil, but in a strangely interesting way (Gunseng FTW). The ordos however... I don't know but it all came down to them giving the orders, me carrying it out. Plus their units are damn impossible use properly. I had to reload each mission a few times before I figured out I could just locate and rush the enemy in the first 5 minutes.

  • @BTIsaac Lol.Well, different people has different opinions.People debate because of that. Now I wanted to debate.Maybe you wouldn't want to,because your comment is like 5 months ago.Ok,lets go straight to the point,The story of House Ordos is hard to figure out.Their plan is to eliminate the other Houses, atleast, weakening them. Then, they use the ghola that resembles Shaddam Corrino to rule the universe, but as a puppet. The units of House Ordos are...yes,very hard to control. But extremely- CONT

  • @BTIsaac But,extremely satisfying to control.....You could easily wipe out a whole( or majority) of Harkonnen Assault Tank + Devastator combination by using a pair of deviators...Simple,just use the deviators on the devastators. Then, self destruct them. Then run your deviators. That,is very, very very annoying if you just wasted a whole lot of spice on devastators. The tanks?Well, hit and run the enemy harvesters,so easy...Well,the enemy AI is very stupid, even at hard.....That is all.I think this CONT

  • @BTIsaac I think this, debate (or argument),isn't gonna do well.Because my english sucks hard...Well,if you can't seem to find awesomeness in the Ordos, that is your choice. But remember....**ThE SpIcE MuSt FlOw**

  • The old Westwood studio is missing from the "Gamers World". I really sorry about them. Because of the Renegade game EA fired them, anihilated them. I spent most of my childhood with their works. I want them back!. And one of the gratest realization of Frank Herbert's Dune was this game!!! Not the movies!!!

  • Glenn beck?

  • Hey look! Republicans!

  • @DeathRaven000 LMFAO!

  • @DeathRaven000

    Honestly?

I'm having so much trouble making a difference between American parties. Back in Europe it's much more straightforward. Although if you ask me, they look more like the IMF to me.

  • Have any of you ever read the Legends of Dune trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson?

  • House Ordos now kind of reminds me of the RDA from James Cameron's Avatar. Both are interested only profit instead of the lives of others. Do the death of their people mean so little to them, are they truly that mad?

  • @jspinac1

Do the death of yours mean so much to you? Are you that weak?

  • @jspinac1

Yes Avatar is the same thing as Dune since Cameron is a huge fan of the novels when he wrote the script in 1994 and had to wait years for the technology to evolve. Jake is basically like Paul when he becomes a kwistaz Haderech to the Fremen-like Na'Vi people.

Would you also compare The Matrix to Dune?

  • @Johnlindsey289 Avatar totally reminded me of World of Warcraft.. the plight of the Night Elves in Ashenvale. The color schemes in Ashenvale were very similar too. The Construction diggers moving into the woods forcing them out. I bet Cameron played that too!

  • wicked

  • i love the ordos so much.

  • I wish they would make a new Dune game, about time we got some story driven strategy again, not to mention that the Dune universe is simply brillant, would be a shame if they never made any games about it again.

  • The Ordos remind me of guild navigator rejects.

  • The Speaker reminds me of the Strogg from the Quake series.

  • Comment removed

  • they need to redo the dune movie

  • Ordos are pretty much what Druuge from StarControl 2(Urquan Masters) are.

  • I wonder what will happen with the speaker if executrix start arguing?

  • dune is so timeless brilliant.

  • They remind me of New Jersey politicians.

  • I don't care if Ordos are not canon in the dune universe, I love them.

  • Awesome intro, Dune rocks.

  • Honor is a joke or a chain to keep their wardog in line and happy.

If you get Honor in the field what does it get you? Women? Wealth? Land? No... your name is forgotten and only the leader remains.

With the Ordos you get wealth and power for victory. With the Duke you get to see the lazy punk crowned king for your work and you get to be his lap dog.

Ordos give you the greatest honor for your work, Cash cold and hard... Cash is respect... Greed is good and is natural. Honor is a Tool.

  • tbe ordos are really a society in which I would not like to be living- a society where everything is measurable only in cash.

Now with the harkonnen, however, things are a little bit different. There only those who prove their worth in every respect and who are really strong with an iron will are valued and respected. that's a kind of society that I like- where the worthy are valued and not hindered by petty morality.

  • @mihaimarinescu88 WELL, that is not correct , Harkonnen work by treason, they cut each other's troats... a life is meaningless for a Harkonnen. There is no honnor in Harkonnen house, mo long as the result is achieved.

  • @mihaimarinescu88 The Ordos society is impossible. War for profit has never worked because war is per definition destruction of value. Wealth is produced, not conquered.

  • WW <3 :(

    Screw you EA!

  • the Ordos are an example of extreme capitalism.

  • @tehpevis yes, that's true, but they are wearing some awesome gear :D

  • @tehpevis No, but you are an example of a person who doesn't know capitalism. :)

  • @mrtvi46 they absolutely are. capitalism is the market extention of liberal philosophy in it's most extreme form that means complete freedom of the market and thus no oversight on the market. this is a system that will 100% guarantee corruption, theft and coersion through force as basically 'anything goes' in extreme capitalism. war for profit has btw worked just fine in the past as long as you're not planning to stick around after you've done your plundering. proven by any medieval european war

  • @Thescarydutchman Capitalism requires a minimal government to provide justice. Capitalism is _BASED_ on individual rights, meaning that noone has the right to initiate the use of force. The essential individual right in a capitalist society is the right to private ownership. So you cannot steal or coerce ANYTHING. What you are describing is _not_ capitalism, but anarchism. Anarchism dissolves the right to private ownership and can therefore never, not in any way, even resemble capitalism.

  • You mean no one has the right to initiate the use of force against any other member of said capitalist society.

I doubt the native americans got much justice when their land was stolen out from under them.

Capitalism is ethical when restricted to all voluntary participants.

It can and has been an abhorrence when taken as a philosophy and extended to those not properly recognized by the law.

There are many ways to commit injustice. Force is but one. Capitalism is open to a host of others.

  • @Thescarydutchman There is no "anything goes" in "extreme" capitalism. Capitalism cannot be extreme, it can only be capitalism. When it is regulated it is no longer capitalist, but mixed economy, interventionist economy, socialist economy etc.

  • @Thescarydutchman The fact that capitalism is based on individual freedom doesn't mean "freedom to do whatever you want" or "freedom from law". But you have to read up on that, because I lose time explaining this to people who really aren't interested in fact, but make up their own fantasies about economy or the medieval europan wars. Every medieval war was an economic loss. They taxed the people and sent off young men to die. How is that not a loss? It has never worked. :)

  • @mrtvi46 you are forgetting that the dune universe has a feudal system of government. all houses are basically foreign nations to eachother. what you say is true, though even the most avid proponents of the captilastic system mentioned the the need for government oversight, but it say's nothing about how a ordos entrpeneur has to treat a harkonnen citizen though. america has been a democratic capitalism for years without abolishing slavery. did that make them any less capitalistic?

  • @mrtvi46 so the dutch golden age is called the golden age because they lost so much mony in the war against spain (with whom the dutch were at war with for a large part of the golden age) instead of making tons by robbing the numerous trade ships en route from the americas to spain. i guess the wealt of the templar knights was actually a deficit, and the english knights residing in italy after the 100 year war did so because of the favorable weather not because they were making shitloads of mony

  • @mrtvi46 i know my history and political philosophy, just because i do not agree with you does not mean i am making up fantasies.

  • @tehpevis

What kind of joy can you receive from such an existence?

  • @bluerisk money, dear boy, can buy alot of things...joy, being one of them..thats how XD

  • Hahahahah LordBifford must be an alien , what do you call the world in our days

  • How can a society function without trust or honor?

  • easily

  • Its more worth to not involve into conflicts, than betray everyone around, that way such society comes into balance, but never lets you let down your guard.

  • It functions with pressure, distraction and hierarchical violence.

  • Greed and threat of violence can motivate people a lot. A society run by greed and violence can work (history is full of examples). But i agree that a society run by honor would be more efficient.

  • I don't think there is such a thing as a society thats not run on "greed" or the pursuit of personal interest. Capitalism doesn't make you greedy, its just a fair way of doing things. I really want pure capitalism to be tried out sometime because its something that just may work. Federal regulations and the Fed reserve are always getting in the way and messing things up.

  • @LIGHTRONIX

The early stages of the Industrial Revolution are great examples of pure capitalism, and are also great examples of why pure capitalism will never work, and why regulation is not only required, but desirable. Capitalism may not make you greedy, but people by their very nature are greedy and selfish, and will quickly corrupt any form of unregulated industry in order to further their own individual interests.

  • @LIGHTRONIX pure capitalism would look like this ordos intro. If eveyone is free to gain as much as they want without limits, the world would be sucked even dryer than it is now.

  • look at america, theres your answer

  • actually lots of US citizens hate the US

i think USA has lived its time, and sooner or later will have some sort of reform, becuase its obvious that the country is being more and more divided

  • Yup, for all these trust and honor they talk about the big cooperations cares non but have at least more than 300 concepts for riches and profits.

  • Perhaps for at least like most of them now. But gee, I can't even come up with 10 if you ask me.

  • I don't know how, but it can... proven by the fact ours does.

  • @LordBifford Colonial time British and Russian were very good at it. Power and Tyranny crash the complain of treason.

  • In Dune II (1992) and Dune 2000 (1998), the emblem for House Ordos was a snake coiled around a book. In Emperor: Battle for Dune (2001), the emblem was modified. The book was removed, and was replaced by a blue circle, possibly representing Sigma Draconis IV. In The Dune Encyclopedia, the coat of arms for the Ordos is a pair of crossed bones with ivy (a book and snake symbol is used for House Wallach's coat of arms).

  • Their Mentat advisors, the game notes, often disappear under mysterious circumstances. In Dune 2000, the Mentat Edric is rumored to be a thinking machine ordered to precise specifications from the Ixians.

  • Emperor: Battle for Dune further explains:

House Ordos, of the iceworld Draconis IV. The Ordos are known for their use of forbidden technologies. Their leader is the Executrix, four beings that share a single mind. They communicate through a creature known only as "The Speaker." The Ordos are mercenary, they care for nothing, save power and wealth. In the language of the Ordos, there are no words for the concepts of trust or honor; there are more than 300 for the concept of profit.

  • In the series of computer games based on Dune, the goal of House Ordos is the generation of revenue to sustain the pluto-technocratic elite of their society. The Ordos are portrayed as driven by a calculated and single-minded approach: destroying anything that stands between them and the the spice melange. According to the original game House Ordos originated from the amalgamation of several wealthy families into one large cartel who hire expensive but disloyal mercenaries to fight for them.

  • House Ordos is a mercantile House in the Dune universe as presented in the Westwood Studios Dune video games produced from 1992 to 2001. The House is listed in the non-canon Dune Encyclopedia (1984) by Dr. Willis E. McNelly but has never been mentioned in any of the novels.

  • I wish frank herbert was alive so he could make the ordos a canon faction

  • He sure as hell wouldn't be making them like this, I'm pretty sure of it. Herbert never really thought up sides like this.

  • AIPAC USA baby!!!! The order of Zion and the Federal Reserve!

  • Aren't the Ordos supposed to be the evil corporate faction? the whole cyborg thing makes them seem like Ixians instead.

  • They get their hands dirty, unlike the Ixians who don't engage do battle.

They want power, not just wealth.

  • The Ordos seem to me like an attempt to make the Guild a playable race.

  • ordos rules !

  • Long live his royal highness! The Padishah Emperor, GUNSENG HARKONNEN!!

  • Ordos actually RULE in the emperor game... Although I like the Harkonnen better :)

  • damn i loved this game.

    Specially house ordos.

the executrix is really just so great...

  • They seem so futuristic.

  • ohh been wondering who the ordos were, i see this game and im like WTF! theres no ordos in the original dune novels. but yeah dunno why they didnt just call em tleilaxu...and they aint from IX...the Ixian machine makers are, so i guess the combined the tleilaxu and Ixians together

  • No. In the novels they are mentioned but they do not really get involved. This house uses hit and run tactics. If anything, they closely resemble the Ix for their stealth and their trickery. And no they didnt combine them together.

  • umm do some more research, house ordos is never mentioned in the novels, ordos is a creation of westwood studios in an attempt to flesh out their game. when game developers get their hands on liceanse material, they tend to take a few liberties and change things up, hence where house ordos came from

  • I'll look up the books again, but I'm sure I read about them in the books. Though they have no part whatsoever in the story and are only merely mentioned, they are stated somewhere in the books, which is why it surprised me to see them instead of House Ix or House Tleilaxu as a main House.

  • save yourself the time anf effort, just research westwood studios role in developing the story of the dune games, they cleary state they were the sole creators of house ordos, a decision made because they thought the ordos would be an interesting foil for the the other factions

  • I did find it but it was in a dictionary for Dune. Merely mentioned...if what you're saying is right, it could have been after the game was made. Either way, interesting to know! Thanks for the correction!

  • Amaximumace is right. The Dune Encyclopedia mentions the Ordos as just another House.

Funny thing is that the Ordos coat of arms in the Encyclopedia was two crossed bones entwined with ivy, whilst the snake and the book was House Wallach's coat of arms. To make matters even more confusing, the Bene Gesserit school is located on Wallach.

The Encyclopedia was written in 1984 - 2 years before the horrid movie these games are based on. So if Westwood did say they thought it up, they were lying.

  • The Dune Encyclopedia was declared non-canon by the official Dune website, Frank Herbert certainly didn't consider it canon seeing how he completely ignored it when he wrote Heretics of Dune. Read the forward of the encyclopedia and you can see for yourself that Herbert found the book amusing but completely ignored it when it came to writing his novels. Even the latest Dune novels butchered by his son ignore this encyclopedia, it simply isn't canon

  • Frank Herbert worked on the Dune Encyclopedia - on subjects like the Butlerian Jihad - with the sidenote that he held his reservations in case he wanted to go a different direction.

Frank intended this to be a great compilation of information on Dune, unless it went against what he wrote.

As for Brian Herbert and Kevin Judas Anderson's novels, they're nothing more than official fanfiction, really. "We're working from his notes." Yeah, right.

  • A great compilation of the dune universe completely written by other authors, Herbert had little to no involvement with the Encyclopedia. The Dune Encyclopedia is like all those star wars novels that seem to pollute my local Borders, just cause it says Dune on the cover doesn't mean we should consider it the word of god, for Dune info, just stick to what FRANK HERBERT ACTUALLY WROTE.

  • You don't seem to understand what I've written. Frank Herbert worked on it. The head writer of the Encyclopedia discussed things like this at length with Frank, and Frank actually started writing out the Butlerian Jihad (and most likely more) based on this very encyclopedia. Unfortunately, he died, so that never got finished.

At least, if we may believe Dr. McNelly.

  • Quit comparing them to the Ix or Tleilaxu, these 2 are small fish, minor houses.

Ordos are a major house, standing toe to toe with the Atreides and the Harkonnen.

I read somewhere that they equip their troops with technology that puts AT and HK soldiers to shame, that their greatest weakness is their army being composed of hired mercenaries, thus of flimsy loyalty and prone to desertion.

  • i dont think you understand what we were talking about, we weren't comparing the houses, it was a discussion over if house ordos can actually be considered canon in the dune universe, and not just some creation by a game maker.

  • You were the one guessing they combined Ix and Tleilaxu, so I was just sayin'...

Ordos are so much cooler than those. :)

Then again, I suppose that assessment is fair, they do use a technological style that's based on a seeming mix of Ix (mechanical) and Tlei (organic) tech.

And yeah, also read that they weren't canon.

    Fine addition though, aren't they?

  • i have dune 2,000 for playstation but i could never find this one

  • hey does anyone know where I can get ahold of this game, preferably for less than 60 dollars.

  • try ebay dot com

    or play dot com

    or amazon dot com

  • @reckless67 get it off ebay for like 10-20 dollars

  • @reckless67 Have you tried Steam or Gamestop? Or whatever game stores are near you?

  • @reckless67 3 years later I see the game on Amazon for Price: $114.94 and the game is now 10 years old.

    WOW, just wow.

  • @GhostOfACPast I don't know why EA just doesn't rerelease it.

  • Shipgate, you're missing out on a great game! Also, I love this song! This is the best song! Great choice to represent the Ordos!!!

  • GREAT GAME

  • I always wanted to play this game but never got the chance.
