I srsly hope prototype 2 is as action packed as the first! I do not want that half-wit from IGN to have changed activisions mind about what the game should be like... Also, about the look of the city, I actually think its great. I am really not fussed about the look of the city when its at the standard being portraied in the game.
IGN gave it a more than fair review. I wouldve given it a 6 or lower. It seemed like they thought that if they made it chaotic enough no one would notice how poorly done the game is. Terrible graphics, buggy, uninteresting poorly delivered story. Thankfully I only rented it so I didnt waste my money on it. Im looking forward to the 2nd one because it showed great potential but never reached it.

And frankly the graphics are just fine. It's no Uncharted but it's nowhere near horrible. Very few bugs either.
thank u for cleaning up this horrible review. i agree with u for most things. the only thing i dont agree on is the framerate drop when ur faceing alot of ppl. its only happend once so i call HIS bs but i had 1 framerate drop when the strike team was inbound while i was free roaming. there were so many ppl, veichials, and helicoptors on screen that it actually lagged for a few seconds and thats where i call UR bs that a framerate drop can happen
Prototype is nothing more than a revved up Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction. The game is not original. I know you love Prototype but I think you would probably enjoy Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction.

Pressing X and B with one finger is incredibely uncomfortable, and it sometimes takes the experience away for a minute. I love the canonball but I don't use it because of that button scheme. This review maybe flawed, yes, but there are flaws he pointed out, about the game, that were entirely true. You know you have a choice NOT to press "Play" on the video review, if you hate IGN's reviews.

the only thing i didnt like about prototype was that the a.i. didnt realize your on thier side. if i was a soldier and my CO told me to kill a guy that was saving mine and my fellow soldiers asses, i would be like "focus on the zombies first, then worry about mercer second!" but apparently killing a hunter thats raping a platoon and a tank isnt a good enough message. i would also apreciate bieng able to store gunz. and call in a helicopter or tank when your disgiused as a soldier to pick u up.
I also disagree with much of what the IGN review says; really, there aren't many flaws in the game that aren't there for a good reason. I'm really not an avid gamer, but even I found this game to be easy enough to get used to (and [ ] - O isn't hard on the PS3, either).
I do agree that his review was rather biased, but as you say in the first vid, it is just an opinion (and maybe his 360 is older, making the game lag more than your 360 or my PS3).

I'll admit that IGN are good despite the fact they sometimes disappoint me in some ways. I usually download theri reviews and I like most of the critics there. However I am more of a GT person, I believe the critic that reviews games on that site is very factual and he clearly knows his good from his bad.
The guy that reviewed prototype obviously doesn't know how to play the game because 5 tanks, million soldiers and 4 helicopters surrounding you can be easily mashed up to peices and evaded. and the orbs can be seen from the central park... to The nearest miltary base. lol, the controls are pancake... especially on the PC because EVERY SINGLE powers you get has a designated key on the function keys AND yes he did describe infamous at the end of his film.
I almost got dissuaded from ordering this game exactly because of the IGN review. I decided to bite the bullet and order it from gamefly. I have to say, I completely agree with you in your rebuttal of the IGN review. The game is very addicting, and I kinda do feel like a badass

I have to tell you that I agree with pretty much everything that the IGN review says, and I have NOT played Infamous. This game tries to accomplish WAY too much and all parts of the game feel half-realized because of it. The only thing that I felt wasn't a huge issue was the draw distance as you mentioned, but everything else is spot on. IGN knows what they are talking about.
1)again, x and b is difficult? It's simple. Everyone can do it. My little brother can do it fine.
2)Then you either just sit around and don't try very hard to fight back or you don't realize that you can absorb anyone and get a third of your health back in seconds. Or you are just lying.

The review may have been poor, but I played and beat Prototype on the PC. It's not terrible, but it definitely has a bunch of flaws, of which a few make a significant impact on the score. Prototype is a 7/10.
I just went and looked at the review myself. He gave it a higher score than I did >_>.
One place I could see that he was right, when he wouldn't be for 99% of the game, was the final boss. Since players are so free to develop their character how they will (no specific power-based missions) you would expect the final boss to be possible to defeat in a number of ways. Except he's not. The last boss is really tough to down without having muscle-mass and i barely managed to do it using other methods
The only thing I agree with him on is the controller input. Doing a cannonball with square + circle requires that I mash my thumb all the way across the controller. For such an important ability, it sucks having it be so uncomfortable. Definitely not that hard to do though... not worth docking huge points off the game for it.
i rly havent found any flaws in the game that would make it bad except its hard to run lets say up a water tank and actually land on it u rly need to make an effort with that he always jumps over it but u can always climb up the tank holding B xD
So Journalism in games is really sucky. You know, just plain bad. I use MetaCritic to see what the general tone of a game is , but also have returned to word of mouth. I use Youtube now, but I seem to keep coming across meta reviews as well. The fact that you tore apart the review means nothing to me. Uh, no. IGN's reviews are often very biased. I've yet to play Prototype, but there are a few games [other than Prototype] that have been given biased reviews without any valid reasons for why something was terrible such as Bionic Commando for one.
that "X+B is rediculously hard" is fuckin horseshit. I agreed with everything you said and not to mention that graphics are not just about textures and how many polys you can fit into one character. Density, scale, framerate all contribute to graphics. You get a game with as much action as prototype and try putting crysis level graphics in it...
if they made missions specific to one power there wouldnt be the open ended missions the dev wanted. for example i remember watching a interview and the guy said he wanted the player to choose how they approached the mission

I totally agree. Also, in his written review, he says that when running through the city, you're ALWAYS spotted by the military, which is completely WRONG. Unless you go into the radius of some kind of detector, go around with your powers out or just start hurting people while being watched by enemies, you're not going to be detected. As the devs said, it's not fun having to walk around to remain stealthy, so AI was dumbed down a little so that you weren't detected when you ran through the city.

the only thing i didnt like about prototype was that the a.i. didnt realize your on thier side. if i was a soldier and my CO told me to kill a guy that was saving mine and my fellow soldiers asses, i would be like "focus on the zombies first, then worry about mercer second!" but apparently killing a hunter thats raping a platoon and a tank isnt a good enough message. i would also apreciate bieng able to store gunz. and call in a helicopter or tank when your disgiused as a soldier to pick u up.

I also disagree with much of what the IGN review says; really, there aren't many flaws in the game that aren't there for a good reason. I'm really not an avid gamer, but even I found this game to be easy enough to get used to (and [ ] - O isn't hard on the PS3, either).
I do agree that his review was rather biased, but as you say in the first vid, it is just an opinion (and maybe his 360 is older, making the game lag more than your 360 or my PS3).

I'll admit that IGN are good despite the fact they sometimes disappoint me in some ways. I usually download theri reviews and I like most of the critics there. However I am more of a GT person, I believe the critic that reviews games on that site is very factual and he clearly knows his good from his bad.

The guy that reviewed prototype obviously doesn't know how to play the game because 5 tanks, million soldiers and 4 helicopters surrounding you can be easily mashed up to peices and evaded. and the orbs can be seen from the central park... to The nearest miltary base. lol, the controls are pancake... especially on the PC because EVERY SINGLE powers you get has a designated key on the function keys AND yes he did describe infamous at the end of his film.

1) Regardless, it's still a stupid button combo. The player could press a shoulder button and the X button much easier.
2) The Hunters are the biggest issue here.
3) It is actually hard to see where your character is and where the enemies are at times. You shouldn't have to use your vision powers for that.
4) This is because GOW's controls were way better than Prototype.
5) I don't want to read. It's boring. The game should make me use new abilities. That is more fun.

I have to tell you that I agree with pretty much everything that the IGN review says, and I have NOT played Infamous. This game tries to accomplish WAY too much and all parts of the game feel half-realized because of it. The only thing that I felt wasn't a huge issue was the draw distance as you mentioned, but everything else is spot on. IGN knows what they are talking about.

1) Players should not have trouble completing a move because of a difficult button combination. That's just poor controls.
2) I often find that most of my health is gone in a few seconds.
3) The game IS too chaotic. It is tough at times to see what is happening because there is so much going on.
4) God of War's combos WERE easier to handle.
5) New moves should be introduced with missions to SHOW the player how the moves are useful (instead of just telling them).
6) I don't feel like a bad ass.

The review may have been poor, but I played and beat Prototype on the PC. It's not terrible, but it definitely has a bunch of flaws, of which a few make a significant impact on the score. Prototype is a 7/10.

One place I could see that he was right, when he wouldn't be for 99% of the game, was the final boss. Since players are so free to develop their character how they will (no specific power-based missions) you would expect the final boss to be possible to defeat in a number of ways. Except he's not. The last boss is really tough to down without having muscle-mass and i barely managed to do it using other methods

The only thing I agree with him on is the controller input. Doing a cannonball with square + circle requires that I mash my thumb all the way across the controller. For such an important ability, it sucks having it be so uncomfortable. Definitely not that hard to do though... not worth docking huge points off the game for it.

I use Youtube now, but I seem to keep coming across meta reviews as well. The fact that you tore apart the review means nothing to me. Density, scale, framerate all contribute to graphics. You get a game with as much action as prototype and try putting crysis level graphics in it...

if they made missions specific to one power there wouldnt be the open ended missions the dev wanted. for example i remember watching a interview and the guy said he wanted the player to choose how they approached the mission

Yeah thats right, when i played the game and i made the whole game, i did not notice any kind of laag or framerate drop i think the graphics were good but not perfect but with a that big city i can understand why they dropped the graphics a bit. And i felt like the most powerfull guy in the world how can that not make him feel like a badass?

it's not just the city it's everything in it. All the people, the cars, the insane amounts of action all contribute to the graphics.

there are missions called consume missions were you do have to track down marked enemies and consume them within a set amount of time but they are not obligations you need to meet they're just there to gain etra EP at first it sounded like he had a bad copy but now he starting to sound redundant finding small thins to bitch about .

graphics do impress just not prototype's play fight night round 3 or uncharted fnr3 is nearly 3 years old uncharted is 2 years old both are twice the graphics

Dude this reviewer mixed some of his words up, first - "cannonball hard to do" its not hard, i think he just meant annoying. second - "so many powers" i think he meant powers as well as combos, cause there are a fuck load of combos.. but i agree 100% with anyone that thinks this ign guys a dickhead...

I totally agree. Also, in his written review, he says that when running through the city, you're ALWAYS spotted by the military, which is completely WRONG. Unless you go into the radius of some kind of detector, go around with your powers out or just start hurting people while being watched by enemies, you're not going to be detected. As the devs said, it's not fun having to walk around to remain stealthy, so AI was dumbed down a little so that you weren't detected when you ran through the city.

I agree. I think the IGN reviewer that did the review was magnifying the bads which are not that bad, and not mentioning the goods,which there are many.
