Interesting that the Catholic husband would marry the Jewish wife in the first place, and they didn't expect that they might have differences in their ideas on what they might want to teach their child.
@baldurus1 "Brainwashing" is a term that I'd like to hear you define. There are similar concepts like 'indoctination' that occur every day in public schools.
@baldurus1 There are several types of 'indoctrination' - I didn't specifically state religious - I meant indoctrinate as in to be 'taught' and not to question, and that is how I would define brainwashing. Kids are often taught what to think rather than being provided means to form their own opinions or at least are not allowed to express opinions that might differ from what's popular.
to be fair I would bar both parents from exposing the child to religion or order that the child be equally exposed and told continuously that choosing which faith the child prefers or none at all is and always will be her choice.
How bout neither of them are allowed to brainwash their child. When she's old enough to make her own decision, she can decide what she wants to believe, AND which parent to live with; for that matter.
bring out the fuckin' atheist judge, let an atheist judge understand the situation but for as i know, a father has the rights to do this, a mother has the right too but it already showed that the jewish mother is doing the same, how can a father not do the same? let the kid decide!!!! fuckin' stupid religious bullshit.. yall are fucktards!
Hey! Let's use our little kid as a very public political/religious football just to show how much we wuv her.
Fuckin' childish dicks. I love the last comment about 'how much he loves his daughter'. So why drag her through this acrimonious bitter shit? If I was the judge I had the kid fostered by muslims just to teach 'em a lesson.
Parents should not be raised in any religion, they should be taught about all religions and be allowed to make up their own mind when they're old enough. This kid is not old enough to understand these matters.
A great Dad doesn't call the media and deliberately cause a petty dispute with the mother just to score points. This guy is a media whore and should evaluate his motives and weaknesses as a person before endangering his daughter in his next provocation.
This poor kid has deeply troubled parents and will mostly not fair well amongst all this petty religious crap that is going to throw at her.

Jewish or otherwise, the judge should have never gotten away with this outrageous injunction in the fist place.
this is just wrong, arresting a man for choosing his daughters faith? wat right does the judge have to put him in jail? and wat right does the judge have to tell a 3 year old girl that she has to be jewish?
This is prejudice against Catholics plain and simple! All because he wants to have his daughter Catholic. I have been through this. I took my son on my visitations to the Catholic church.

Converted to Judaism? You can never really "convert" to Judaism, either you're born a Jew - a supposed descendant from the mythical tribes of Israel - or not.
Isn't the child a human being, with the ultimate right to self determination and choice? The only reason any of these faiths even exist today is because they force them upon their children as a dogma from which many never recover.

@Josephandalice Only a few of the muslims are the fanatics that we hear about, most of them are very good peoples, so the only right thing to do is to wipe off religions from the planet and save us all from wars, hate and dogmas.
I think indoctrination of children in ANY religion is harmful. But a three-year-old isn't going to be indoctrinated, and certainly not "harmed" by taking her to church, or even having her baptized. This was clearly a power play between adults, both of whom should know better. Shame on them both.
@Largo64 - "But a three-year-old isn't going to be indoctrinated, and certainly not "harmed" by taking her to church, or even having her baptized" Maybe not once, but I thought church was the vehicle for indoctrination.
A three year old can be indoctrinated by religion and harmed by it as well. Just going to church may not seem like a problem, but it can be a powerful thing. They don't just sit there in most churches. A lot goes on, and the Christians take full advantage of a captive audience.
Here's hoping the child will figure it all out, and arise godless.
There is truth in that statement. My Holy Scriptures professor is an Atheist, this way I know not one scripture was going to shoved down my throat because of a bias.
Everyone should get imprisoned for taking their kids to church. Indoctrination and blatant lies should be a felony, and going to church would be aiding & abetting a felon.
@TheRealScarr Well in this country we have the freedom to practice religion, so sir/ma'am if you don't like that I suggest you move to a country no so abliging of religion like China or Russia (not sure about Russia but definetly China).
Then maybe you could join the militia that hunts down the Christians, but I really hope you come to know God, and what true Love is. Hate is overrated.
1st, America was founded on ANTI-RELIGIOUS principals. 2nd, the christians are the ones with the militias killing muslims, jews and atheists. 3rd, God and Jesus don't exist therefore you cannot be loved by nonexistant entities. 4th, hate is purely subjective, what one person construes as hate can be and usually is construed by someone else is passion. 5th, you and your unintelligent insane ilk are completely delusional and should be confined to an asylum for life for hallucinatory schizophrenia.
First, obviously you don't know american history, We were founded on Religious freedom, check out the first amendment.
Second, I dont know where you get your facts, but the Christians are not hunting anyone down, we send missionaries to countries that do hunt Christians down, and either imprision or kill them, but they have the faith to do it anyway, Third acccoding to you He doesn't, but that doesnt mean a hill of beans, gravity and nautural laws exist also, without your concent (Cont')
Fouth, Hate causes murder, rape, etc. I dont think these can be ruled out as subjective. Fith, YOu and your non-beliver friends will find out, I hope it is not too late, and for your information I am very much sane, and frankly am glad that those in leadership don't share your narrowminded dictator mentality, I think you are the mad one.
Here is an interesting quote that you might find interesting from earlyamerica . com.
"Today, if ever our government needed proof that the separation of church and State works to ensure the freedom of religion, one only need to look at the plethora of Churches, temples, and shrines that exist in the cities and towns throughout the United States. Only a secular government, divorced from religion could possibly allow such tolerant diversity"
If anyone tried to impose their religious beliefs on my child, they would better start praying to their particular god, that I wouldn't get a hold of them
NEITHER of the parents have the right to force their cooky beliefs on their child. That's what ends up perpetuating brand new cooky parents for generations!
Lots of people raise their kids with two religions. They should put her in a Waldorf School that accepts and celebrates all of the major faiths - problem solved - then they won't risk confusing their child.
"My faith means a lot to me" yeah, from the guy who converted to Judaism. I'm not a fan of any religion, but it seems like he agreed to raise the girl by the Jewish faith in his divorce papers, now he's calling the news and going to catholic church just to push her buttons? asshole. "under the umbrella of Judaism" lol It would have been funnier if he took her to a mosque. This girl is probably now going to suffer from parental alienation on both sides now. Great parenting!
He probably converted to Judaism because his wife wouldn't marry him otherwise. As he puts it - "my mother and father-in-law would not accept me". In Israel for example, you can't even get married if both partners are not jewish.
Also, it's okay for a jewish woman to marry a non-jewish man, because children will always be jewish. But go to a rabbi, say that you're a jewish man and they will tell you that a jewish man should never marry a non-jewish woman, or else he would be wasting his seed.
The girl looked 3, so I don't think she'll remember much about it when she grows up - unless this goes on for years and years.
The sad part is that his wife has been indoctrinated with this religious bullshit by her parents since she was a child, and she will most likely brainwash her own child too.
By the sound of it it likely will go on for years. Anyway, both parents are trying to fill the young girls head with rediculous fears and superstitions as it comes to religion. All religions are = on their own merits. Culture is fucked providentially and gleefully. This guy is an idiot. Let the girl be a good little jew until she can make up her own mind. That's what he signed up for.
MAN i was about to puke! this is utterly DISGUSTING! its fuckin 2010 and we're still witnessing lunatics clinging on religion like hell! in my opinion both parents should be thrown in prison for exposing their toddler to this bloody poison; Religion..
Government interfering with parental philosophical decisions? I wonder when people will start to think they're going too far. As for the parents, they both made a bad decision in marrying each other and they better find a way to get along other than sorting their problems through the courts.....otherwise it will bankrupt them.
Religions.... You know, they're nothing but some damn GANGS! Joining the crips/blood or surenos/nortenos is just as stupid. Except religion kills more both mentally and physically. Gangsters do it for money. Religion.... why? For wanting you to believe in a damn imaginary friend :|
well, after reading it several times I guess you meat that religion wasnt the worst blief someone could have, but that was still terrible grammer and spelling, but at least I think you had a good answer.
And I'm sure my IQ is at least as high as yours, although I hope much higher.
is that judge cracked. dictating what if any religion the child she be brought up with. how does exposing the child to vari ous religions so long as its not psychologically abusive against the law. the judge is completely out of line. so what if he only practices every other month. so now the judge tells how how often we should go to church. .
i thought that sounded kind of strange although with that being said... what authority does a judge have to tell anyone that they are not allowed to go to church or temple. i can't imagine how exposure to more than one faith could be harmful to the upbringing of the child, right? not to mention that order trumps the first amendment of the US Consttution which covers freedom of religion.
@slats1212 Exposure to more than one faith helps a person understand that all of them are bullshit. And the constitution originally stated a "freedom FROM religion" until the religious cocksuckers that came after changed it. The founding fathers didn't want one single church to be constructed on American Soil, and now we have more churches per square mile than some countries have in their entire nations. Religion is a disease, and the only cures are intelligence and truth.
they might all be bullshit but why not let him decide for himself as is the case here. as the child grows he may discover that all religions are BS but let him make that choice, Y should a judge be given the authority to decide for him. thats like letting the the Pre Colonial Crown decide what religion we should hear and not hear, right? I think you made my point.
Simple Truth: Guy converts faith to shut up nagging wife & in-laws who will never like him anyhow cause he's f_cking their daughter.
They get divorced & hate each other. She's finds a Jewish judge gets him to rule the kid is to be Jewish ignoring freedom of religion. He takes the kid to church to piss her off. They have a pissing contest in court & news airs it to boost up low abc ratings while we watch adults act like kids fighting in a divorce. He didn't harm the kid just bored it a little.
Wow... this is about him being bitter for the divorce....
"My religion is important to me."
Bullsh*t, if it was, he wouldn't have "converted" or "pretend to convert". He just wanted to get laid and now he wants to piss her and her family off. Asshole....
As was said, this is about a bad breakup, not religion.
Just the same; if he were trying to raise her as a Muslim would it be news? I'm fairly certain American Christians would side with the Mom and this wouldn't be deemed news worthy.
I feel bad for the kid. She's going to be put in so many terrible situations over the next few years. She'll be asked to choose between parents and will be made to feel guilty for wanting to spend time with both.
Religious freedom? That's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. They mean religious indoctrination. If people were to have "religious freedom" than they wouldn't be allowed to follow a religion until they were old enough to be considered mentally competent. Just like when you get a drivers license or a marraige license. It should be called the freedom of religious mental enslavement.
The father thought so much of his religion that he converted away from it when it suited him. Sounds like he wanted to stick it to his ex and her family and didn't care if it made dealing with the ex even more difficult.
Solution: expose the girl to NEITHER religion and let her decide whice, if any, religion she likes best when she is old enough to form her own opinion on the matter.
Of course a Jewish judge is biased in a case like this. That is completely ridiculous that a Jew was allowed to preside over this case. I guess finding a judge or a lawyer who isn`t Jewish can be hard these days...
Yup. My dad is jewish, my mom a lutheran. And they decided to let their kids choose for themselves, when we had grown up. Which is what we all did - none of us are believers. At all,
The conversion by the ex-husband, Joseph, to his wife's religion was a big mistake. He said her family would not accept him otherwise but that he never stopped practicing Catholicism so his conversion was a fraud. Then he compounded his mistake by agreeing to raise the child Jewish.
Never, never convert for hormonal reasons like Joseph did. .
Plus, this is another example of religion being contentious and devisive.
Here's my solution: expose children to religious beliefs when they're old enough to decide. We do the same for research with children and child protection, why is religion different.
Fantastic. Now we've got 'jurisprudence' to avoid children from being indoctrinated into preposterous worldviews that make a bunch of claims about the universe without ever bothering to convey evidence to support them.
Since they can't agree, BOTH parents should be forbidden to pollute, err... "expose this childs mind to ANY religion.
The ruling should be: "Until child reaches a mature age capable of making rational decisions and decides on her own to choose (or reject) either religion, both parents are forbidden to indoctrinate this child into their respective mythologies, err... "religion"."
Funny how the guy says, "My Catholicism is important to me..." when he converted to Judaism for some pussy.
Both parents show very poor judgment in putting their child through all this BS. I think the judge was wrong bar the father from getting his "oar in the water" on the subject of religious training for the child, but that should be no excuse for flagrant disobedience to a court order. The father could and should have appealed the order.
Most importantly, these folks should have sorted out their religious differences before marrying and DEFINITELY before having a child!
Both parents need to seek therapy. I am so sick of supposed "believers" and "followers" being allowed to mentally and emotional (sometimes physically) abuse kids while the courts and child proactive serves just tuns the other cheek or takes a side depending on the "belief/follower" standing. The Judge was bias. The parents are in need of therapy/help. Wow!
Jesus...did you see the schnoz on the mother? it started at her hairline and went down to her upper lip...doesn't look like she would be able to eat an ice cream cone, to say the least...lol
Wow, a Catholic baptism is assault? What does she think about circumcision? I'm sorry, but this is just ridiculous. That kid got a little water splashed on her, what about the millions of us that were mutilated due to her religion?
I could care less about the baptism incident. However, religious indoctrination, no matter the religion, is child abuse.
The ultimatum to convert to judaism should have rung alarm bells for that guy.
Personally if the relationship came down to the point where my religious choice was more important than how I treated my partner, then I would have bailed long before the wedding and the child.
Both of them need their heads knocking together for treating and using their kid that way.
legally the father is correct insofar as the judge was wrong to say he could not take his daughter to church. that injunction does not hold water.
however, off topic a bit, should any parent be allowed to indoctrinate their children into their religion before they are old enough to think for themselves?
As for your question.Whilst I think religious indoctrination is very bad, I could fire the following question back at you: Should anyone be allowed to teach someone else things that may be incorrect? And how could this be policed (so to speak)?
This guy doesn't give a shit about religion - he just wants to antagonize his ex-wife and he's using "God" and his child to do it. If she didn't want her child eating candy before bed, he'd probably feed it to her anyway and send her pictures of that. This isn't about the evils of religion, it's about the evil of parents using their kids to hurt each other. Now people are jumping on this to further their own religious agendas? Fuck that.
I have an idea! Let's give every religion a restraining order to children up to twenty-one. Let's see what they think of the idea of not eating ham at that age.
Lying hypocrite, he converts to Judaism and claims it wasn't a voluntary decision.
Sounds like a mommas boy, he'll do anything for pussy and then cry that she made him do it. No wonder the marraige didn't work out. How can you respect a man like that?
If this was a temp restraining order...the whole point is to maintain the status quo until a hearing can be held to determine the proper course of action. He couldn't wait 30 days for a hearing to prove exposing her to Catholicism wouldn't cause harm before calling in the media?
Also, he admitted in his appeal:
"No allegation was made that the minor child was harmed during this ceremony OR THAT SHE EVEN UNDERSTOOD THE CONCEPT OF WHAT A BAPTISM IS ..."
I'll allow the father that one visit to a church would not physically harm the child. Psychologically, I would allow that making a child recant one religion for another would be harmful, but I doubt that as a 3yo she: a) understands the differences between the religious stories in church and her bedtime stories
b) holds any of her own beliefs (though may have adopted some basics such as a belief in, but not an understanding of, god.)
Interesting that the Catholic husband would marry the Jewish wife in the first place, and they didn't expect that they might have differences in their ideas on what they might want to teach their child.

@Largo64 - "But a three-year-old isn't going to be indoctrinated, and certainly not "harmed" by taking her to church, or even having her baptized" Maybe not once, but I thought church was the vehicle for indoctrination.
Yakslipper 2 years ago
A three year old can be indoctrinated by religion and harmed by it as well. Just going to church may not seem like a problem, but it can be a powerful thing. They don't just sit there in most churches. A lot goes on, and the Christians take full advantage of a captive audience.
Here's hoping the child will figure it all out, and arise godless.

Hate is overrated.
freak4jc1 2 years ago
1st, America was founded on ANTI-RELIGIOUS principals. 2nd, the christians are the ones with the militias killing muslims, jews and atheists. 3rd, God and Jesus don't exist therefore you cannot be loved by nonexistant entities. 4th, hate is purely subjective, what one person construes as hate can be and usually is construed by someone else is passion. 5th, you and your unintelligent insane ilk are completely delusional and should be confined to an asylum for life for hallucinatory schizophrenia.
TheRealScarr 2 years ago
First, obviously you don't know american history, We were founded on Religious freedom, check out the first amendment.
Second, I dont know where you get your facts, but the Christians are not hunting anyone down, we send missionaries to countries that do hunt Christians down, and either imprision or kill them, but they have the faith to do it anyway, Third acccoding to you He doesn't, but that doesnt mean a hill of beans, gravity and nautural laws exist also, without your concent (Cont')

Maybe you need to be more tolerant as well.

ArthurTyler 2 years ago
He probably converted to Judaism because his wife wouldn't marry him otherwise. As he puts it - "my mother and father-in-law would not accept me". In Israel for example, you can't even get married if both partners are not jewish.
Also, it's okay for a jewish woman to marry a non-jewish man, because children will always be jewish. But go to a rabbi, say that you're a jewish man and they will tell you that a jewish man should never marry a non-jewish woman, or else he would be wasting his seed.
allnotathome 2 years ago
The girl looked 3, so I don't think she'll remember much about it when she grows up - unless this goes on for years and years.
The sad part is that his wife has been indoctrinated with this religious bullshit by her parents since she was a child, and she will most likely brainwash her own child too.
allnotathome 2 years ago
By the sound of it it likely will go on for years. Anyway, both parents are trying to fill the young girls head with rediculous fears and superstitions as it comes to religion. Government interfering with parental philosophical decisions? I wonder when people will start to think they're going too far. As for the parents, they both made a bad decision in marrying each other and they better find a way to get along other than sorting their problems through the courts.....otherwise it will bankrupt them.
Nickelodeon2002 2 years ago
That is so well put, Nick, because these parents are going to be connected thru that child for at least another 15 years.
The pulling and pushing of the child over religion is going to damage the child-parent relationship in the long run and confuse the child.

is that judge cracked. dictating what if any religion the child she be brought up with. how does exposing the child to vari ous religions so long as its not psychologically abusive against the law. the judge is completely out of line. so what if he only practices every other month. so now the judge tells how how often we should go to church. .
slats1212 2 years ago
That's not what the Judge said. The parents were ordered to not take the child to any church...until they could resolve their differences.
172677 2 years ago
i thought that sounded kind of strange although with that being said... what authority does a judge have to tell anyone that they are not allowed to go to church or temple. i can't imagine how exposure to more than one faith could be harmful to the upbringing of the child, right? not to mention that order trumps the first amendment of the US Consttution which covers freedom of religion.
slats1212 2 years ago
@slats1212 Exposure to more than one faith helps a person understand that all of them are bullshit. And the constitution originally stated a "freedom FROM religion" until the religious cocksuckers that came after changed it. The founding fathers didn't want one single church to be constructed on American Soil, and now we have more churches per square mile than some countries have in their entire nations. Religion is a disease, and the only cures are intelligence and truth.
TheRealScarr 2 years ago
they might all be bullshit but why not let him decide for himself as is the case here. as the child grows he may discover that all religions are BS but let him make that choice, Y should a judge be given the authority to decide for him. thats like letting the the Pre Colonial Crown decide what religion we should hear and not hear, right? I think you made my point.
slats1212 2 years ago
Simple Truth: Guy converts faith to shut up nagging wife & in-laws who will never like him anyhow cause he's f_cking their daughter.
They get divorced & hate each other. She's finds a Jewish judge gets him to rule the kid is to be Jewish ignoring freedom of religion. He takes the kid to church to piss her off.
I hope her grandparents are better people.

The conversion by the ex-husband, Joseph, to his wife's religion was a big mistake. He said her family would not accept him otherwise but that he never stopped practicing Catholicism so his conversion was a fraud. Then he compounded his mistake by agreeing to raise the child Jewish.
Never, never convert for hormonal reasons like Joseph did. .
Plus, this is another example of religion being contentious and devisive.

alexei3333 2 years ago
@alexei, well of course he did. He did it for "wuv" ... which is one hella bad reason to convert to a religion that is so alien to your own.

TheHealthySkeptic 2 years ago 3
Both parents show very poor judgment in putting their child through all this BS. I think the judge was wrong bar the father from getting his "oar in the water" on the subject of religious training for the child, but that should be no excuse for flagrant disobedience to a court order. The father could and should have appealed the order.
Most importantly, these folks should have sorted out their religious differences before marrying and DEFINITELY before having a child!
knutsondc 2 years ago 3
Both parents need to seek therapy. I am so sick of supposed "believers" and "followers" being allowed to mentally and emotional (sometimes physically) abuse kids while the courts and child proactive serves just tuns the other cheek or takes a side depending on the "belief/follower" standing. legally the father is correct insofar as the judge was wrong to say he could not take his daughter to church. that injunction does not hold water.
however, off topic a bit, should any parent be allowed to indoctrinate their children into their religion before they are old enough to think for themselves?
Vindaven 2 years ago

This guy doesn't give a shit about religion - he just wants to antagonize his ex-wife and he's using "God" and his child to do it. If she didn't want her child eating candy before bed, he'd probably feed it to her anyway and send her pictures of that.
There was no reason for him to rush this.
NekoMouser 2 years ago
I'll allow the father that one visit to a church would not physically harm the child. Psychologically, I would allow that making a child recant one religion for another would be harmful, but I doubt that as a 3yo she: a) understands the differences between the religious stories in church and her bedtime stories
b) holds any of her own beliefs (though may have adopted some basics such as a belief in, but not an understanding of, god.)
But, he did break court order on camera.
