  • Not sure If I like this version better than Ella's, but I think that this is close. But I really think you can't beat Ella Fitzgerald. I am not hating, but I am just saying I have heard better from Julie.

  • love it

  • if she is a woman then what are those in the present? if those are women so what is she?

  • Good slide show, but I believe the picture at 1:33 is Ingrid Bergman....

  • @calico992 I think its to show a 'man' ie. Bogart

  • What a great production. The band has huge depth while the vocals are up front and intimate .

  • One was before you Sarah Vaughan - Black Coffee

  • But Peggy Lee's version is surprisingly good.

  • hm. she's good, but I can't say this version is better than Sarah's or Ella's.

  • Man she was great.

  • Give me a dimly lit room and a single malt scotch and I would feel classy as fuck

  • Great pictures, too!

  • i am from Belgium and would just want to thank America for this.

    Thank you

  • @walter1990 Glad you enjoyed. It is something isn't it.

    shesist

  • I don't know anything about her life, and I don't like her appearance much, but I like to be killed by her singing. She must be the strongest, most intelligent and most emotional singer in the world.

  • @zzausel I think her look was in sync with the period and it was...well...different. I bet she'd still be a bombshell today with a modern hairstyle and "smokey eye" makeup. Add that to her smokey style jazz voice and you'd need marshals to keep the men in their seats. I was a young man back then and I can tell you she was hot. Her voice - now that's timeless. This is also a great song for her style - steamy - suggestive (doesn't matter what she's talking about)

  • The orchestra here needs some props too. They were flawless too. Love ya Julie!!!!!

  • like

  • watch?v=yz_0qVlAisI

  • I love Julie London <3

  • there are 18 jealous women...

  • they don't build 'em like that anymore.

  • @orchidtender I say the same thing about man

  • @Jennily90 Agreed. They don't make men like Julie London anymore, either.

  • @orchidtender hahaha! ur funny XD

  • Julie London and K.D. Lang sound so similar. Great voices!

  • so sultry ...wow!!

  • Amazing! Inspired us post a video response of ourselves doing the same number - we hope that you like it - Best Wishes, Gael and Dave (Small Days)

  • Would someone with a copy of Ms London singing "I Surrender Dear" PLEASE upload it? It was recorded in 1967 AT HOME! Nevertheless, recording quality is excellent and her singing voice was at it's peak.RIP,Julie.

  • The liner copywriter for her first LP commented: “No wonder her voice comes out swell. Look where it’s been!”

  • Isn't that Rock Hudson around 1:40...wasted on Rock!

  • Sexy, vibrant, amazing

  • You can imagine her face when signing!!! Sometimes I wish to be a a man!!

  • Wow! This is sooooo sultry! What an amazing performance by Miss London!

  • You did an awesome intepretation of this classic song...big applause..great tribute.

  • this woman was sexy when people didn't know what sexy was.

  • She looks and sounds good enough to eat.

  • Never mind her singing. I could listen to this woman just talk all night. If you want to know what I'm talking about, check out the upload for Bye Bye Blackbird from Japan.

  • There was only one Julie London.

  • artsylovelylady - thats the quote of the decade!

  • Love love love the photo at 1:58...who is the male actor?

  • @hyperion30000

it's Richard Egan, and the film must be 'Voice in the mirror' (1958)

  • @hyperion30000 A lucky bastard.

  • hihetetlenü jó....... most fedezetem fel... köszönet érte...

  • shes oozing sexy.

  • Sexiest song I've ever heard...

  • oooooooh they dont make women like that any more!!! which is just as well because Id be totally besotted 24 hrs a day

  • Meh, she's no Peggy Lee.

    Sad songs are not sexy.

  • @nishbrown She does this song better than Peggy. Her recording of this on the 'Bachelor Pad Royale' CD is a little better. It's also posted on YouTube.

  • Amaaaaaazzz bass trombone part in this arrangement

  • i want coffee now!

  • Black coffee never looked...uh, sounded so good!

  • Black coffee never sounded so tempting!

  • She is so sassy! Beautiful!

  • Magnificent! But, what did she see in Jack Webb?

  • the definition of a lady

  • Great version.

  • past regrets in coffee and cigarettes

    aaah it makes me sad ;__;

  • !6 people like their coffee very weak...

  • shes not even trying...and sounds like a dream...

  • o wow she is soooo hot and this rendition is sexyyy <3

  • 16 NAKED JAYBIRDS IN THE DISLIKE BOX. WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?

  • Up to 18 now. Maybe they should try singing it themselves.

  • Comment removed

  • oooooooooow......sexy coffee...100C

  • Just yummy

  • What year was this made?

  • She's so good that all I need to do is close my eyes and I feel like I'm in a little backstreet Chicago "easy listening" jazz club. MMMMMM oh yea.

  • I'm feeling a little bit lesbian right now... she's really sexy

  • I thought this was going to be some off-the-wall cover of the Black Flag song by the same name.... I wasn't entirely disappointed :)

  • Two of the biggest talents in music (and Bobby Troup was good, too).

  • What a great version. She was married to Bobby Troup who wrote Route 66.

It's the American dream. Learn to play Jazz piano and a sultry love goddess will fall in love with you and sing smokey love songs in your ear.

    Married for 40 years.

  • @slipbone She was also married to Jack Webb of Dragnet fame.

  • Beautiful total!!!!

  • That slow pan from 0:53- 1:20. Niiiiiiiice. Now who would leave her to talk to the shadows from one o'clock to four?

Today's pseudo-singers should take a lesson here. It's not all about putting out the most decibels or hitting 14 notes per syllable.

  • @jwz965 I agree. It's also not always about taking off most of your clothes. There's a lot to be said for the sexiness of suggestion, rather than revelation. And a lot of power in understatement.

  • @jwz965 Being a lady has it's perks too ;)

  • Julie London is one hell of a beautiful girl.

  • ALL CLASS !!!!! WOWW!!

  • Talk about an aural orgasm

  • that bozo Jack Webb left this babe?? what a moron.

  • Can anyone say "Jessica Rabbit"???

  • adoro esta cantora linda

  • Wow ... va va va voom!

  • love this song..lol when I heard this I think of Betty Draper from mad men sitting at the table drinking her coffee..smoking cigs waiting for Don to come home...lol

  • She was the nurse on that TV show Emergency ! Back in the 70's.

  • @purplerocks72 OMG thats her!!

  • @freedomchild68 Yeah, It flipped me out also!

  • What's not to like pure Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeexy!!!

  • She can sing me a song about anything in my cupboard.

  • I could drink a cup of black coffee.

  • Always did dig jazz, and this dame is no exception...

    Beautiful, classy stuff.

  • Maravilhosa!

  • δεν - υπαρχει!

  • nicotine...

  • Julie London is my world. I had impure thoughts when she played Dixie on ER and I was an alter boy but now I smoke weed as an old fart.

  • @bg147 Fabulous comment!

  • @bg147 Dude i was just thinking that same thing. LMAO

  • Ahhhhhhhh~ for the good old days when you would see someone in the distance & immediately know if they were man or woman, unlike tuday's unisex look!?!?

  • Julie's voice is such an aural aphrodisiac.

  • Thanks for the video. Knew the voice, but no idea what she looked like.

  • she's just perfection...

  • julie can be my grandmama but seeing these pictures...i made a mess in my pants

  • oh that Julie London !!! her sultry crooning rocks my unstable orbit right out into the cosmic void...I can almost taste and smell that rich, silky smooth n luscious coffee now.. .I wanna sip and savor her deep dark n delicious velvet flavor and intoxicating aroma...she has completely avalanched out tim horton with a sugar mountain landslide ..

  • One of the sexiest songs I've ever heard...Wow!!

  • Holy... Moly...

  • 14 people must be gay!

  • picture from Casablanca is wrong gal -- that was Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman

  • Blimey, from an era when snatch was proper snatch!!

  • Le début est juste epic !

  • I don't think we will EVER see the likes of her and Ella again, the music buisness is pure hype an NO talent. Thank god we still have her recordings. Sleep well.

  • @BLAST14 Thank you.

  • Would u please list the LP that includes this track??

  • Have you seen Brenna Whitaker sing this?

  • This is the best arrangement of this song I've heard, and her voice would melt ice in Antarctica in winter.

  • Kiss me tiger - teach me tiger... oooaaaooouuuuhhhhh.

  • I've had it with Starbucks, I'm home only thanks to coffeeloverstipsandtricks (.) com

  • I just remember what she fit for...

    BOND's girl! :)

  • Wow. This lady could have made potato chips sound sexy.

  • @artsylovelylady She probably did at some point in her life.

  • i like her version betta than the rest

  • Black coffee and a cigarette is a guaranteed visit to the toilet for me. It's a great way to get that chore out of the way so I can start my day, but I don't know how sexy it is.

  • @1971SuperLead =That's super funny

  • Can I just be her..?

  • @Symorine get in line! lol kidding

  • Fablous beatuiful looking woman great singer

    Thanks udie for sharing

  • Pure CLASS!

  • Good Video

  • エロさがあるのに下品さのかけらもない。

    学歴とかそういうんじゃなく知性を感じる。

    というか自分の魅せ方を熟知してるな

  • Sex in a dress

  • @Martegon Right on! If this can't replace Viagra or Cialis for ya, grab your toe tag and body bag, son----itt's game over....

  • 完璧な美女というか、バーディー人形徒でも言おうか、ジュリー・ロンドンはインテリジェンスな美人というなら、マリリンモンローは小町娘という観がある。まあ、どちらも、男は彼女達の肥やしみたいなもんかな。

  • Mercy! That woman could sing!

  • This lady is just wonderful. Listening her improves mood and her voice makes the environment around you softer, or smoother, or what...

besides, It's her birthday soon - on Sept 26

Thank you Julie for these ever worthy gifts of songs for us

  • TantPire- did you really just insult her voice? thats rediculous

  • @YamenIsrael Tantpire is a tasteless tone-deaf cretin not worthy of response at this point

  • If Julie London punched me in the nose I'd thank her for doing it ;) Damn it that woman is GORGEOUS.

  • oh my god this song is so sensual and sexy it's perfect ... !! julie london has an amazing voice..

  • the way that she sings, unique. My favorite version.

  • Voice? What voice?????

Nothing to do with Ella, Sarah or Peggy Lee!

  • @TantPire She blows all three of those tired choices out of the water.

  • @hyperion30000 That's the problem, that she blows and the others SING... Add job at the end of the blow and here you have how she got to become a singer with that no-voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @TantPire Don't be such a snob man, just dig it and be glad we have recordings, Either that or just don't visit her video pages if you have nothing good to say about the artist....

  • @psychoactivepaper You bloody conformist! We are what we are thanks to people like you. Critics make this world advance. What a pity...

  • Very good voice, nicely sung but there are better versions.

  • I wish i could listen her alive :(

  • Thanks for the great vid...did Ms London ever do 'Why dont you do right"? It hard to imaging a version that makes me melt like Amy Irving's but maybe she could do it..

  • @stephenw181057 yeah she has I have her doing it on 'the best of the liberty years' julie london album and it's wonderful

  • @lilyeatspeople: thanks lily - I will track that down...

  • When I use my computer as an alarm clock this is the song I wake up to.

  • I don't remember Julie London from my youth, but when I came across this song here on Youtube, I started buying everything I could from her. Doesn't that voice just make you wanna smoke a cigarette?

  • oh yeah, wauw

  • Jesus what a voice! WOW! And the lyrics...ooh what to say! With Jazz, coffee and a cigarette any night is a goodnight! :-) MUSIC FOREVER!

  • So smooth...

  • Very nice but I prefer k.d. lang's version.

  • awesome!

  • Perfect smokey dive music.

  • Better than even Peggy Lee's. Maybe the best, actually. This also has the most penetrating orchestration of all of the versions I've heard.

  • Her smokey voice, that haunting sax and the 'tailgate' trombone in the background, brass punch lines and a classic walking bass. An arrangement made in heaven for the voice of a fallen angel. Simply put, a classic.

  • She underestimated her voice. She thought she had this "little" voice. Even though she wasn't a belter, she most certainly had a place. This song proves it. She was also very lovely

  • A perfect marriage of singer and song. Exactly right for her voice. I still give an edge to Ella's version, but then I think Ella was the best ever. No matter. This version is as good as it gets.

  • Black Coffee and hot women- a great combination.

  • Oh my gosh now this is beautiful music, why can't we have more of this rather then the typical mainstream crap nowadays?

  • Wow she is gorgeous!

  • Honestly, I would take her over Sinatra any day. I have nearly all her records and lately (for the past several months), I've been obsessively listening to most of them. "Lonely Girl" and "Your Number Please" are freaking masterpieces. She is SO great and there will NEVER be another singer like her.

  • Va va va voom!

  • She's sexy :D

  • BTW, at 1:32: Ingrid Bergman does not equal Julie London.

  • Wow. Completely superior to today's women - aesthetically speaking. Alas for years gone by.....

Fine voice. Peggy Lee has much richer and more powerful sound but Julie London is very very sexy and sounds great in this tune.

  • I am 16 and I love her. *_*

  • @gunlovegirl Same here, but in different ways I'm guessing.

  • The eyes, the cheeks, the lips, the VOICE! She's gorgeous.

*sigh* I wish I looked like Julie London... n__n

  • not the best version though!

  • Um...wow. I think I was stunned for a few minutes.
