Some people join for the romantic notion, some people aren't allowed to join in their own country (If they're a theif or something) I'm from Northern Ireland and if I was to go, I'd do it, because the British Army are the enemy and the Irish Army are shite.

Some people want a greater challenge, I was an RAF engineer officer for 5 years from being 19 and as far as the physical side goes I found it very very easy. The FFL training I would have had to work ver very hard at!

after the legion he went to the elite U.S Airborne.. there he was among the pathfinders for main airborne assaults. Recon expert means being among the VERY first to jump into enemy territory

While I believe that, the American doesn't strike me as special forces. His ego is very large, and that is unlike most American special froces. Those are the guys I would hate to work with. That is why I really buy all of Bear's stories. He is modest and is kind but tough, like much of the special forces of the world.

@Bobcat1911 The FFL isnt special forces per se tho.. although an argument could be made for 2.REP..that being said,theres all kinds of people serving SF around the world..they actually encourage you to be an individual to a certain degree as its more fitting to the type of service.
