  • Comment removed

  • UNCLE PECOS!!!!!!!

    CRAMBOOOOO!!!!!!

  • Thumbs up if you ended here because Bender

  • My favorite version of this song. I first heard it about 10 years ago.

  • The melody is actually from an old proto-ragtime song by Ben Harney called "You Been a Good Ol' Wagon But You Done Broke Down." The lyrics were very racist by today's standards.

  • Crambone!

  • love this, grandpa used to sing a version of it to me and my cousins when wec were little.

  • needs more broken strings replaced by cat whiskers

  • you pussy

  • O.K, I know it is just me,But is he scatting? I've always thought that he scatted

on a lot of his songs.

I am near deaf but I love Tex's singing.

  • @flint589 - Probably eefin'

Which is like scat, but for old timey country instead of jazz.

  • as a young boy every saturday afternoon i would go to the movies. I loved all those

old westerns, there was Hoppy, Johnny MacBrown, Wild Bill etc. but my favourite

was Tex and his two side kicks Lucky and Jingles. Tex would sing and play his

guitar and I would be like lost in the old west. Loved Tex than and still do.

  • This song was sung by The Brothers Four in the early 60's. They had a big hit with it. This is only the second version i have ever heard but I've been looking for it so thank you very much for posting. Tex was great close friend of Harold and Don Reid of the Statler Brothers. and indeed was John's dad. John died the same day as Johnny Cash.

  • I am 75 ,born and raised in arkansas. my grandfather sang this song to me when I was a little girl...of course he didnt know all the lines, but he knew the chorus. there were

4 of us girls and we liked to hear him sing what he knew....

  • @vista716: Right on!

  • Should be some crambone' s in there somwhere :D

  • He was John Ritters father. I love this version and he was the only one who sang it this way. Listened to him on the Town Hall Party in the 50's

  • Takes me back to my childhood and he was a cowboy hero in the movies and such a wonderful singer. Thanks for the memory. :)

  • I saw a part of this song on full house in Guyana south america around 8 pm. i had to hear the whole song

  • I remember that episode! Ahhh, memories. Seems I remember Bugs Bunny singing that once, as well. It's a fun song and my daddy used to sing it to me when I was little.

  • is he related to john ritter?..gotta be they look so much alike.

  • @tiffantegan He's John Ritter's dad :)

  • @wilburscott Yes John Ritter's dad.

  • @qwertyytrewq71 thats why i came here haha

  • Actually, I thought Burl Ives was the one who made this song famous. I know I like his version better....it's a little softer and not so hillbilly. Sorry about that, Tex.

  • Am I the only one that's here because of a Tom & Jerry episode?

  • does anyone remember tex singin a song about a old dog his name was ole shorty been hunting that song for sometime cant find it thanks

  • Had it as a child.....

  • Charming folk song, well delivered.

Long pre-dates Bob Dylan's nasal rendering!

Was Ritter the original 'Singing Cowboy', or was that another, gone before?

  • @redoler Gene Autry was the official "Singing Cowboy" starting in 1935. Tex Ritter followed in 1936 with "Song of the Gringo," then came Roy Rogers. Tex never had a billing like Gene or Roy, but he lasted longer than the other singing cowboys of the Thirfties. His last series was for PRC in which he co-starred with Dave O'Brien in the Texas Rangers series. This was in 1945.

  • I love Burl Ives version from the early 70's

  • Tex Ritter so cool i can see him riding his horse WHITE FLASH across the silver screen

  • @cuttingedge1000- Wikepedia says Shug Fisher did the voice and music for Uncle Pecos.

  • Burl Ives sang a version of this. My father (b 1900----- d 2007) had a quite diferent version with a different air and collection of nonsense words ...never knew where he got it.

  • @Lisnageeragh

That was probably the older English version, Kimo Kemo. Raymondecrooke has both versions on his channel.

  • @Hikikomori013 Maybe ...thanks for comment ...will have a search.

  • In 1946 at the age of four, I received for Christmas a four or five 78 RPM record set by Tex Ritter titled "Songs and Stories for Children". This song was among them. It was a Capitol Records release. One wonders if they ever re-issued it. They were spell-binding and great fun. I still have the album jacket, but the records died long ago, fragile as they were. This was in the heyday of the singing cowboys and western movies.

  • crambone!

  • Great grandma sang this while bouncing me on her knee

  • Wonderful Charlie

  • LOL... OMG.. This song is on the disney show Phil of the Future, HAHA...

  • OMG!!!!!! XD !!! tom n jerry :3 :hearts:

  • HEY HEY GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My uncle used to play in Tex Ritters band.

  • @Lysol295 Cool! Did you know that there is a John Prine song that refers to a Tex Ritter song? "Grandpa was a carpenter" has the line, "he used to sing me Blood on the Saddle and rock me on his knee".

  • my grandpa would clog dance and sing this song for all 36 grandchildren, sure miss those more simple days

  • FROGGY!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes! Our third grade teacher taught us this song!

  • Love the fun he has with this! Wicked!!! :-)

  • I heard it in Tom and Jerry, hah

  • I didn't realize Tex was this good. Lots of nice little moves in this one. Pretty cool.

  • WAIT THIS SONG IS JERRY'S UNCLE'SONG

  • Yes they taught us this (and the frog and the duck sitting in the water doing what he oughta) in school but I like the CCCCC---rambooooh version better lol

  • I'm 57 yrs old, and my Grandfather used to sing this song to my brothers and me.

  • @1applejack same here sir only im 66

  • @1applejack Cool :)

  • Lost the cassette tape I had of this (and Rye Whiskey) and was glad to find this. Does anyone have a copy of Lorne Green's Ponderosa album? I want to get his version of Ghost Riders in the Sky. I haven't been able to find Son's of the Pioneers song "Man Walks Among us" either.

  • So, that's why a frog goes out on a date with a sword and a frog. satire?

  • are these the same lyrics, mostly, as King Kong kitchie kitchie ki me oh?

  • pretty much.

  • I have this version of Froggy on a 78rpm, and a copy of the Phantom White Stallion of Skull Valley. I loved both of these records when I was a kid. I'm trying to talk my artistic daughter into helping make a video for both pieces of music. gonna be a while.

  • need help on a song, keep searchin the oldie's,but to no avaiel! song is about 2 frog's who fall into a vat of cream,1 gives up,the other paddle's away till it become's butter. i know this has nothing to do with this tex ritter song, but it may jog somebody's memory about this song i'm looking for. any help would be appreciated.

  • A question for everyone. I believe this song was on an album of 78's I had as a kid. It also had Ritter's story song called The Phantom Stallion. Has anyone heard of it? Or know where I can find it? It might actually have been Gene Autry, for all I can remember. Thank you anyone.

  • You're correct on all three counts. The album was on a 78 rpm record which was recorded by Tex Ritter.. It included a different version of "Froggy Went A-Courtin'". "The Phantom Stallion of Skull Valley" was the other song you are rememberin'. Another was a song about the Pony Expressand a rider named "Pony Bob Haslem" if I remember correctly. Also one about a train wreck. There were several more songs, but I can't remember what they were. Have you tried Ernest Tubb Record Shop?

  • yes but a another version but this is better

  • not bad if i may say so myself seeing it is one of my kin folks from way back when.

  • this one of the reasons i go by y00sta so many things i y00sta do lol ,used to be a cloggin fool, most folks dont know what it is

  • Tex is still the King

  • A very fun song And one that can easily be clogged to. Such a great song sung by such a great man

  • WOW- did John Ritter

    ever look like his father!

  • Strong family genes. John's kids look just like him, too.

  • One of my favorite versions.

  • Love everything by Tex but I also like the brothers four version.that version is where I got my nick name woo woo

  • great stuff i ove tex got a few of his movies on retrovision,tv

  • Back in the day all good country or folk singers sang and recorded each others songs. Who cares who did it best , they liked it enough to sing it to people that enjoyed hearing it

  • Burl Ives recorded this one via the Loginess Society.

  • The written record shows that this song is over 400 years old. Its really, really old.

  • Now that is interesting ! Many thanks.

  • and i thought Bob Dylan wrote it. ;-P Well maybe he did, he is well over 400 years old now.

  • He sung it on the GOOD AS I BEEN TO YOU album in 1992,a grewat rendition,I was looking for it.Even Bob can't do it all,I have a nongbook of his,1961-1981,with 971 original songs,so he does pull his weight. His words are much better than these,so is a reworking a new song?

  • I agree with electrik, Jerry Mouse's uncle does the best version.

  • Burl Ives does it best...

  • Doc Watson does the best version!

  • No, I think Jerry's uncle does the best version.

  • Fröschlein ist auf Brautschau und hüpft sehr viel herum, da-daaa, da-daa!

    BENDER ROCKS!

  • Have Burl Ives also recorded this?

  • Yes !

  • The origin of this song is a reference to Francois the Duke of Anjou courting Queen Elizabeth I in the mid-late 16th century. Isn't history fun?

  • LOL that is cool but wear did you come across this bit of info (i am not trying to be a A** or any thing i would just like to know how true it is)

  • cool

  • its true

  • i know i did my home work lol and i thought it was soooooo cool :)

  • @nekorose im 99% sure your full of shit

  • @imthisonenigga That's more than a little rude. Also, you forgot the apostrophe in "I'm" and spelled "you're" incorrectly. As for whether or not it's true, I believe my professor. Someone of your grammatical caliber might prefer to check Wikipedia, which also has the story as a possible origin.

  • @imthisonenigga Hon, you know what's really funny? I mean really, really funny. I'm not English. You're just stupid. I'm from New Jersey. Fuck off yourself, bitch.

  • Comment removed

  • @nekorose actually, this song predates Elizabeth as queen by about a decade. More likely, the female reference is to one of Henry VIII's wives

  • i love this shit yaaaaaaa

  • Cool

  • tex is legend

  • My dad sang this song to me as a little girl. it inspires great visual imagery when your little.

  • A real nice children´s song indeed

  • Oh yeah I heard this song many years ago. Thanks

  • The best version I've heard is by Doc Watson

  • On Tom & Jerry cartoons Jerry's Uncle Pecos sang this song. "I can't sang without a strang n-n-nephew"he would say and yank one of Tom's whiskers out and use it for a guitar string.

  • Great classic cartoon.

  • @LP61RI Thats were I heard it!

  • @LP61RI that's exactly why i looked up this song :D i LOVE that episode!

  • @snowemerald Can you understand what he's singing when he adds his own take on it?

  • @dennisward100 the lalalarolalalaradoodleooreeodorolo CRAMBOOO part? haha, no.

  • @snowemerald thats the part! hahaha, I think its gona take some workin out!

  • Comment removed

  • @LP61RI I made that connection years ago, what I would like to know is who was the voice of Uncle Pecos????

I dont think it was Tex Ritter....

  • @LP61RI

Omg! I thought I remembered this song from Dexter's Lab when they're singing it in their car, but I knew it wasn't where it was I first heard it from! When I read your comment it all made sense. I had no idea what he was singing at the time, since I was like 6 years and norwegian, but I loved it when he sang it <3
