never think youd be sitting here with tears in your eyes looking at the "round" which is what we used to call the corps school (it was round)
and yeah WE WERE LOBLOLLYS PEOPLE!!!! so its not medics, no such thing as a navy medic WE are the only enlisted corp in the US MILITARY so as it grows down into you, youll never forget that BLESS YOU!!! 15 years later you will be telling your kids and anyone who will listen, that you are a NAVY CORPSMAN!!!
Wow. Such great memories. I graduated from HM A in May 1983. The beginning of my Life as a Corpsman. Even when you leave the Navy you never leave the Corpsman Family.
shipwreck!?! that was really nice posting this vid, brought back memories,,but MEDICS? FOR NAVY AND MARINE CORPS? uhm,,we are called CORPSMAN!! Don't worry you'll see..Medics is for the army. I know we are all forces but still we went to corps school and we are called HOSPITAL CORPSMAN!! Stay Safe!
Corps School is not hard ,.. fast yes,.. pay attention,.. its/was 14 weeks, of fun.. studying and training, follow along in the books and take notes do the homework,..
well , the FMF corpsman who work with the Marines have to go to school in NC or CA depending on where you live to train to work with the Marines. You have to take a lot of tests in order to qualify to go to FMF school. HM A school is 96 days, right across the street from bootcamp, lol.
An HM must go to HM "A" school first and then can go to FMF training but there are no test in order to qualify to go. As a matter of fact they take just about any corpsman and even force a lot to go that don't want to go.
how long to guys stay for training and what is the difference from working in clinics hospitals and the marines. Also do you guys are basicaly e.m.t.s i am just curiously wondering
great memories bros. graduating class of90020 in 1990. still remember the snow and marching to hospital to eat chow. the train station and the mall. fond memories
HM2 Scott was one of my lab instructors..He was funny as hell, but he used to come in smelling like some serious alcohol but definitely entertaining. HAIL class 08070B
holy shit manchester! it miller. hows it going? they sent me to japan to work at the clinic its pretty cool jucatan got sent here too. where did they send you?
I am awaiting boot camp in July and chose to be a HM. Where is the location of this school, I couldn't really see it. I may stay in Great Lakes and go to school there.
Its really close to RTC in great lakes. About 10 minutes from Gurnee Mills in a cab ($20 ride, or $5/person w/ 4 people obviously ) and A short train ride away from chicago.
Great Lakes has earned the nickname Great Mistakes :) I wouldn't stay there if I had the option of chosing where I was going next.
Yes you can get a corpsman contract, just make sure its your primary choice. Be sure to get a secondary job as well in case you don't make it through corps school. The attrition rate is pretty high. Corps school lasts 14 weeks on its own and theres a chance you'll be on hold for anywhere from 2-6 weeks so your total stay at corps school will be anywhere from 16 to 18 weeks.
