I was 22 when my first wife was killed in this crash. FINALLY after 32 long years I was able to have closure with the help and understanding of my wife. Watching her pay respect to someone she never knew was so touching. We were at the Memorial dedication on October 15th and it was BEAUTIFUL to see, I believe that for the first time in over 32 years, I have some closure. Thanks for the song, very touching
@OH019 I was there at the memorial, very nice. I waited until the people left because I knew I would cry, then I touched the stones and cried. Now when I drive down Touhy Ave I look at the CPD dog training site and the corner of Touhy and Lee Street !But, its a peacefull feeling now.
Dude, sorry to burst it bubble, but construction will begin on a memorial in the fall. At that time, American, continental, and united cheated md's procedure, but uniteds was found to be safe, while American and continental had cracks
I'm a graphic designer in Houston & this crash happened on my 12th birthday. I came up with an idea for a memorial design but don't know who to contact about sending it. Can anyone here give advice? Thanks.
If I recall, I don't believe it wasn't all their fault. American Airlines along w/ several other airlines were using maintenance practices that were not approved by McDonald Douglas. And even though they were the aircraft manufacture, they could only suggest to the airlines that they discontinue but they couldn't physically stop them.
I was playing on the playground at Angel Town School , in Des Plains, Illinois on May 25th, 1979, in Des Plaines Illinois. It was sunny that day and very warm. I saw this plane shoot over us at about 300ft. The teachers were screaming and crying. I couldn't take my eyes off the plane. Very tragic and very traumatic. To this very day ( 30+ yrs later ) , I don't fly. And the last two days I keep envisioning everything. God Bless those families and those who lost their lives in this crash.

I hope the families and friends of those who perished on AA 191 are able to get their memorial. Let the politicians know that the human spirit is stronger than the Chicago Political Machine. After 30 years, there is no excuse not to have a memorial.
It is hard for me to understand why no memorial exists. I have been told it is because the accident location is in a restricted area, part of the O'Hare expansion project? There must be a way around this? I can understand that American doesn't want to advertise the accident. You also can't pretend like it didn't happen. A tremendous number of lives were forever changed that day. A little respect is long overdue. Lets get it done folks.
@astronoman11 , As a family member of a victim of this flight I want to say thank you very much for a beautiful tribute to the victms of this horrible day.

Very nice video. I never knew anyone from the fight but I knew someone in Wilmette who lived next door to an entire family that died in the accident.
For her, I thank you.
