@nativesun You're writing to the wrong guy. I'm in the tax business for a very long time. Yes, they MIGHT have federal and state withholding taxes. Social Security and Medicare taxes HAVE to be withheld. However, the low income people I was referring to get back ALL their withholding PLUS thousands that were never paid in. A married couple with at least 2 children making under $40,363 in 2010 will get a $5,036 credit. That will exceed what was paid in (including SS and Medicare).

Decreasing taxes doesn't necessarily increase the long term debt. When taxes are lower, there is more economic activity, thus a broader tax base. Over the course of several years, this could increase revenues.
Also, there are two sides to the budget: revenue and expenditures. Deficits have not been because revenues have fallen, rather because expenditures have increased.

Did you experience a huge increase in refund or reduction in taxes? The "Making Work Pay" tax credit did not constitute the biggest tax cut in history ($400 single, $800 married). Increasing the Earned Income Credit is not a tax cut. Most goes to people who never PAID taxes at all. That's an increase in welfare, not a CUT.

@nativesun You're writing to the wrong guy. I'm in the tax business for a very long time. Yes, they MIGHT have federal and state withholding taxes. Social Security and Medicare taxes HAVE to be withheld. However, the low income people I was referring to get back ALL their withholding PLUS thousands that were never paid in. A married couple with at least 2 children making under $40,363 in 2010 will get a $5,036 credit. That will exceed what was paid in (including SS and Medicare).

@nativesun Further, I've had clients getting over a $4,000 refund with NO federal/state withholding. They may have paid in around $1,500 in SS and Medicare taxes. If you're in a state like NY, they'll throw you over $1,000. This is fact, not "right wing meme." Sorry to let facts get in the way.

If McCain-Palin would have won, GM and Ford would be bankrupt with the loss of over 3 million jobs and satellite jobs spun off from these two automakers. @jetbtkng Look back. Back in 2009. All Gm plants were shut down for almost the whole year. Yet somehow they were able to stock GM sells lots across America. Where do you think all them cars ewere being built while the plants were all shut down? They all came from the over seas plants.
But with the bailout the uS government now owns GM. Not investers or a single owner other than the government. All of GM here and over seas doesn't value to $54 billion.

Tax cuts don't create jobs, never have, never will. There is no evidence to support tax cuts creating jobs.
For the LowIQ Republican Tea Baggers, if Tax cuts work, where are all the jobs? You've seen massive tax cuts for the rich since 1980 and all we've seen is a massive transfer of wealth that began in 1980 from working families to the rich.
Tax cuts are just welfare for the lazy rich. Time to go back to the 1941 tax rates to pay for the Bush war and the 2001 tax cut for the rich.

As the mouthpiece for the nation, the President traditionally sets the nations agenda, gets blamed for bad times and takes credit for the good times. Isn't it more important to understand what policies led to our expansion and push to follow those policies again than it is to argue over who should take credit for what?

Unemployment is up because more people are giving up looking for work - partly due to the new fundemployment welfare system your libs cooked up. GM paid back the government with the tax money we were forced to give them. Obama is making things far worse than what bush could have ever done.

@countess1900 To add to your point.....These tax cuts were written by Republicans to expire because to extend them beyond this point was considered too expensive. What makes these things more affordable now? I find it remarkable that the party of fiscal responsibility can advocate extending tax cuts that weren't responsible in the first place. Let the cuts expire, cut the defense budget, revisit health care reform, invest in education and infrastructure and watch us grow!!!

The middle class would be hurt the worst. And many more jobs would be lost there-by putting more people on the government dole. Decreasing taxes doesn't necessarily increase the long term debt. When taxes are lower, there is more economic activity, thus a broader tax base. Over the course of several years, this could increase revenues.
Also, there are two sides to the budget: revenue and expenditures. Deficits have not been because revenues have fallen, rather because expenditures have increased.

I never said anything about jobs, although lower taxes tend to provide for the creation of more jobs - among other factors.
We had a surplus under Clinton because revenues increased, and expenditures did not increase as fast. When we had a surplus because the economy was vibrant and we had a "holiday from history" - the Cold War was over and 9/11 hadn't happened yet.
Remember, the high taxes did not cause the good economy, the good economy was the cause of higher revenues.
