& its funny cuz thats how mankind works the majority of people they have to go through it to realize, to experience it, to believe it people never listen the first time or the second but when they get hit by a huge rock on the head then they say "OH OK" i understand i "think" i got it now lol thats how the human brain works we are all stubborn&what the most scariest part is god doesnt give every1 a second chance so there wont be "OH OK" i understand cuz u wont be coming back. God bless all of u.
God doesnt have 2B seen 2Blieve he exists&on top of that If every1 knew there was a god cuz "GOD" decided to prove u wrong then "FAITH" would be pointless Its almost as sayin that love doesnt exist cuz u dont see it but u definitely feel it like i felt god. 2make this short theres also been Atheists who died&came back from the dead&said they went to hell&god gave them a chance at life; Bcame Christian but i guess in the end u have to burn in hell to experience it&then believe it
Mel gibson was right he's the only celebrity brave enough to say it. Revelations 2:9, 3:9. And oh yeah I know there is a god without a doubt in my heart, because I asked for gods existence and got more than I can handle. Sometimes all you have to do is pray and ask, TRUST ME YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. And to all the athiest its a reason why they don't believe, Romans 9:13, Malachi's 1:1-4, Hebrews 12:16-17. It's hereditary
Know wonder Celebrities marriages are not working out they reject the one and only true God and know wonder Hollywood is full of demons destroying their lives for they believe not in the Creator of the Universe; wow! didn't know there were so many unbelievers. Repent that your sins maybe forgiven, Jesus Christ is the only one who can forgive men their sins, without accepting Jesus into your life your sins remain and ( YOU WILL NOT MAKE INTO THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN). Romans 10:9 Salvation prayer.
@sprinkle888 Im always amused how christians put scripture into caps as if then we will get it...Umm its not our book...Thats your guilt to deal with, because when it comes to it and your judgement day is to the far front im thinking youll have just as many sins on your resume as I do.....GOOD LUCK HUMBLE CHRISTIANS!!
@LaDay1471 This is where you are unlearned Christians have accepted Jesus Christ who have washed away our sin and if we falter he is faithful to forgive us our sins. The heavenly won't remember our sins when we repent with sincere repentants: Once a person accepts Jesus Christ and is filled with the Holy Spirit they are sealed until the day of redemption, no one can snatch us out of his hands.
So, let me see if I got this right...You listed a bunch of atheists that are (mostly) admired by the public eye for their careers...and then you list hypocrites who claim to be Christians to benefit their own agendas and are (mostly) viewed in a negative light to begin with?
You don't know your history very well. Hitler did NOT believe in traditional christianity - he hated it. Hitler took the teachings of Karl Marx and Lenin concerning christianity - that it needed to be stomped out. The sad thing is, you've chosen others who have a resentment and personal bias to make your path for you. God loved you enough to send his son to die for you, whether you believe him or not. He cared 4 u that much. I don't know u, but come to Christ and know his love 4 u.
You make it seem as if atheists are better people than religious folk. You're showings of celebrities and their quotes are rather biased. This is why athiests get a bad rep.
Showing brain and brawn. Good job taking on these trolls like an intellect. I usually don't go more than one response with these people as they were already close minded on their first comment and no one knows where the keys is. Christian, or not, being open minded should apply to all and just let people live their lives and should they "suffer" in the end, that's their fault.
@alohawg No Atheist cares about your fake, fictional god. History proves your religion and all others are nothing more than mythology. Not real, not true, just childish fairy tales that no adult with a reasonable level of intelligence has any business believing in. Try growing up already and think for yourself. Put the mythological superstitions and dogma in the past where it belongs.
@baphxiii Most historians agree on the historical facts that Jesus Christ was crucified and put in the tomb. Then comes the rub, the resurrection, the place where some will put forth all sorts of craziness in an attempt to avoid it and the implications associated. If you choose to side with the craziness that is your choice and you must suffer the consequences. The fairy tale is that we are here by some cosmic accident, any adult knows better.
@alohawg You are incorrect. Most historians and biblical scholars will tell you that there is NO evidence what so ever that proves anything in the NT to be historical. There is no evidence of a crucifixion, tomb or resurrection. The oldest book of the NT was written in 70AD, therefor NOT by someone who witnessed the events they talk about. You believe in the mythology surrounding jesus made up long after the fact, not in actual history.
@alohawg Just started my forth decade on Earth. Been studying history for almost two thirds of that time. Funny how an Atheist knows more about the history of your religion than you do. You believe in the mythology of your religion, not the factual history of it.
@baphxiii Congrats, I'm nearing the end of my 4th and the 5th year as a Christian. I have been where you are belief wise. I will die with the faith I now have, thank God. People smarter and more educated than you or I on this subject have come to a reasonable faith in Christ, a fact and one you would be wise to consider.
@alohawg Bullshit. The vast majority of the most intelligent and highly educated people on Earth are all Atheists. There is a direct correlation between a human beings level of intelligence and education and their ability to not be naive and gullible to fall for the bullshit of religion. With every post you make you prove your willful ignorance and the desire to stay ignorant..Like I said before, I know the bible better than you do.
@baphxiii Well for a super genius I must say I'm disappointed in your comprehension abilities. In your angry emotion driven response you missed the point. Surely you're not saying you are smarter than every believer or that no one smarter, more highly educated than you is a believer?
@alohawg I wasn't talking about myself.. Man, talk about having poor reading comprehension skills. Face the truth, it will set you free. You are unable or unwilling to distinguish fact from fiction. You believe in a mythology, not provable, historical facts. This simple ability does in fact make me more intelligent that you obviously are. But that isn't saying much since you seem to be border line mentally retarded.
@baphxiii If 140+ IQ is mentally retarded then I suppose you're right. I've faced the truth and it has set me free, free from all sorts of things that used to enslave me. To go from alcohol addiction to absolutely no desire overnight, from a 1 1/2 pack a day for 27 yr. smoker to stop cold turkey. I well know the difference between the natural and that which supersedes it, the supernatural. Specifically God and His awesome life changing power. You are still here, there's hope for you.
@alohawg Under no stretch of the imagination do you have a 140 IQ. I call bullshit. There is no testable, provable, empirical evidence WHAT SO EVER that confirms the existence of ANYTHING supernatural. The fact that you claim there is with nothing to back up your claim shows how much of a fool you truly are. I think you may have added 100 to your claimed IQ. Only a fool believes in nonsense, like all religions. This is you. Though I do not think there is any hope for you, too brain washed.
@baphxiii I could care less whether you believe me or not on my IQ. Now here's some wisdom, it is not possible to define the supernatural within naturalistic terms and limitations. God is not in the natural but rather outside of and the creator of the natural physical world in which you demand Him to be presented. That demand is in itself illogical and frankly reveals a very limited understanding.God owes you nothing, He already gives you the very breathe you use to curse Him, foolish.
@alohawg One other thing. You say I must "suffer the consequences" if I do not believe in the mythology you were taught. That is asinine. You religious types do not seem to understand the fact that your silly religion has no affect in my world. Your fictional beliefs are only in your head, not in reality, and certainly not in history.
@baphxiii Reality is not dependant on you or what you accept as true. You may deny gravity but jump off a high rise and you WILL suffer the consequences of gravity.
@protochris Once again the Bolsheviks were communist, in places were religion is outlawed its not because of atheism but government taking the place of religion and spreading fear so it can grab as much of the resources from the people it can..Thats communism. But if you would like to make a video of the Bolsheviks no ones stopping you, have at it.
@LaDay1471 You're right, "Obamanism" is taking the place of religion and spreading fear and hatred while grabbing resources to create a national debt. Thank God our constitution is based upon God given rights, and not those from an atheistic institution like communism.
@protochris Actually the constitution was written by mostly atheist and those of a secular nature. If it wasn't we would still be in the dark ages..Remember? When Christianity was law, thousands killed, tortured, pulled apart, children beheaded, stoned to death and burned alive for believing in something different because that's a very moral action to take I suppose. Also our national debt started in the 1700's but I can see how Obama got into a time machine and got the ball rolling :-P
@LaDay1471 Only 3 of the 55 delegates to the constitution were nominal atheists. Bolshevikism (atheistic state) killed over 14 million people, Atheistic Naziism-another 12 million (mostly Jews and Christians). Christianity can't' even put a drop into that atheistic bucket. The Debt before Obama was 6.3 trillion, he's already increased that by 2.5 trillion. Under Reagan, it was only 2.19 Trillion. You can unplug that time machine.
@protochris Are you a complete moron, or do you just play one online? Communism and Nazism are not Atheist. You are completely misinformed. Hitler was a Roman Catholic. The vast majority of the average Nazi soldiers were Catholics and Lutherans. Atheists were sent to the camps with the Jews, not Christians. Communism became the state religion and is completely different from Atheism. You probably think ANYTHING that goes against your religion is Atheist. You are wrong.
@baphxiii Hitler-a baptized Catholic, turned against the church and killed Catholic Christians. You need to tell the families of those hundreds of thousands of Polish Catholics led to the gas chamber under Hitler that it was all a fantasy. I suppose they're morons to you too. Also, Communism didn't become the state religion; it seized Orthodoxy and executed it's clergy. Your history is mythology.
@protochris If our rights were actually "god given" as you claim then the founding fathers would not have bothered to make the separation of church and state such an important part of the Constitution. Plus, putting all the blame on one person, Obama, shows how truly ignorant you are about the world.
@baphxiii The Declaration of independence was the guide for our US constitution and it reads that "all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights". Yes, our rights are derived from a belief in God. The phrase separation of church and state is not in the Constitution; enemies of religion love to make that claim. I don't blame Obama at all, I blame the masses that voted him into power.
@protochris My bad, I meant the Bill of Rights. I didn't vote for Obama either. So where do you get off claiming "Obamaism" is taking the place of religion? There are too many zealots and fundies like yourself in the US for that to ever happen.
@baphxiii Obama just attempted to tell the Catholic church that it had to provide services contrary to their moral and ethical beliefs: contraception and abortion. He backed off because it's an election year. There might be alot of zealots like me, but we don't wear black judicial robes.
@megamus3 In order to be a loving God, he allows men the free choice to serve Him or your god (Satan) ,so that you are without excuse on judgement day.
@ThePath4All Shame on you for deciding who is a "true" christian just because they don't conform with the personal verse that you follow. Read your bible and you'll find commandments that goes along those lines...So shame on you for not knowing your bible! Shame on you! lol
@ThePath4All Hitler was a roman catholic, this is a fact of history. But since the bible advocates genocide, it could be said he WAS acting like a "true" christian. Besides, there are millions of different opinions about what it means to be a "true" christian. How can you claim that YOUR version is "true"?
@SlavicMaleChorus quite easy really, but don't you find it more interesting and miraculous to how it got there on its own (well almost, while many external forces acting upon it) and how they formed to be so beautiful.
@SlavicMaleChorus Cancer, AIDS, Famine and child rape by sexually repressed priests. I assume you'd like to boast about these creations of your God too
@tekbarrier You see us everyday on the street, at the office, at the grocery stores. Don't go by someone's name, go by their character, their way of life.
We are not likely to be found locked up or causing pain and suffering. We get along with almost all people. We truly live by the Golden Rule. We exhibit more human qualities and virtues than most other people.
When you are looking at a genuinely decent human being, you are quite likely to have before you an atheist.
So if I got a while bunch of random dumb quotes from those who claimed to be atheists, would that prove how dumb all atheists are? No, of course not. Lumping an entire group of people up based on uneducated and totally unchristian comments is dumb...just like this video
@dagnut I care what people believe. Their faith has weight in this world and can change things if they want to i also have a strong dislike of most religions due to their stupidity and how much suffering they cause i the world.
@TheSkeletalBaron This whole Atheist movement that is sweeping the web is irritating... becoming as irritating as Religion....Richard Dawkins writes 3 books disproving god and everyone hails him as a genius...well done.... most of us figured it out when we were 10 years old...every hack stand up now has a routine about Religion and the ridiculous stories in the bible...it's boring and obvious
@TheSkeletalBaron If you need it illustarted out to you that there is no god you're stupider than those who actually believe...at least they have the courage of their convictions...if you need some pompous Prof or a stand up comedian to influence your "beliefs" you're a fool....." Brad Pitts an atheist...WOOOO HOOOOOO" <<<<fuck off please
Haha, so you mean to tell me (by observation of your own posts) that if anyone expresses belief or Faith in God, Jesus ect, they are "stupid and ignorant". Allow me to introduce you to my two friends arrogance and self righteousness. I'm sure you 3 will get along great and feel you have known each other your whole lives.
A man from India, from China, and from Iran can all claim to be ASIAN. So catholics can use the name of jesus, JESUS is in the quran too. But just a bit of fundamental difference, after that single word. Catholics pray with sacred/holy rosary beads. Christians call it a bead necklace.Catholics believe the pope is the walking talking voice of Christ and is infallible, Christians do not.
Catholics pray to mary and to saints. Christians pray to the father through the son. Remove your emotions, you knuckle dragger. Catholics re enact the crucifixtion and call it mass. Christians are saved by one crucifixtion that is good for everyone forever.
CATHOLICS ARE NOT THE SAME AS CHRISTIANS.
Or to better explain. Satan is from the bible, satanists do black MASSES, satanists proclaim to hate christ. Masses- acknowledge jesus, eureka, a satanist is a catholic.
Atheistic evolutionists have long believed that at some time in the distant past, life arose from non-living substances. But biology has found no support for this, and much against it. The invariable observation is that only living things give rise to other living things. Life could not begin if God and miracles took no part! There is no known scientific law that would allow one kind of creature to turn naturally into a completely different kind.
How did we come to being if not for god? Athiest usually evolutionalize saying we came from a small atom and evolving ect ect, but where did the atom come from? There is no scientific law or demonstrable process that can account for non-living objects coming to life. The non-living soil in your garden didn't turn into living trees and flowers. They came from seeds, cuttings, or grafts from other living trees and flowers. Life invariably comes from something that is already alive.
Also, who does it hurt to believe? If you're wrong then by all guidelines you will burn in hell (ouch), if I'm wrong I won't know any better in the first place. If you're right, then after death there is nothingness, If I'm right, I'm in heaven. Either way for you, life after death sucks. Who wants to go through life fearing what's beyond. My beliefs give me comfort and faith knowing life doesn't end here on earth. So, if I am wrong, why not error on the side of heaven? Who does it really hurt?
Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities---So why do most atheist feel the need to trash and bad mouth christianity? If you don't believe, great, good for you, but some choose to believe and have faith that there is something out there bigger and better. I don't intentionally set up arguements against atheist(I have seen some judemental christians). Just be a human.
3 simple questions for those who believe in the Bible and God.
1. Do you really think that Jesus was born from a virgin? Maybe things were different in year -1 BC, but nowadays it takes sex to get pregnant.
2. Should you kill your neighbour for working on a Sunday?
3. Can you explain why so many religious leaders before Jesus have extremely similar stories? Buddha, Krishna, Odysseus, Romulus, Dionysus, Heracles, Glycon, Zoroaster, Attis of Phrygia, and Horus all have similar stories.
@bombsy420 Stoning someone for working on sundays---that is a jewish law. Those who believe in jesus (the gentiles) do not follow the same set guidelines as those who are jewish. And the rest of your questions are answered by-Christians base our beliefs (such as the virgin mary and jesus is the only christ our saviour) on faith. You can't see it, but you can feel it. Once you have faith in your life then you begin to see it in your life.
@Mrsjaylynn83 So are you suggesting that there is nothing in the Bible that suggests ridiculous reasons for killing our fellow citizens? Don't be silly. I try to respect Christian beliefs, but when we're talking about things like a virgin birth, talking snakes, living in fishes, and killing for pure evil reasons it becomes really stupid. There's a difference between wanting something to be true and actually believing it to be true. You're too smart to believe in the bullshit in the bible.
@bombsy420 I myself get from the bible what I need, which is its main purpose in my opinion. Do I believe that people lived in giant fish or there was talking snakes..maybe not, but I believe there is truth in them. I also believe that christ himself died for my sins, because we are all wicked sinners and god himself knew we couldnt abide his rules. So no one single sin is worse then the rest, thus making all of us equivalent in the eyes of god. Some things are hard to swollow, just having faith
@Mrsjaylynn83 You really think Christ dies for your sins? No offense but that doesn't make a lick of sense and you know it. I know the bible says we're all sinners. Really? A baby born into the world is a sinner? Jesus died for people born 2000 years after him based on the assumption that everyone else, besides him of course, are sinners? There's a difference between "would be great if were true" and "probably not true". Logical thinkers, Athiests, have common sense and think for themselves.
@Mrsjaylynn83 You get from the Bible what you need? Things like "Thou shall not kill" and "Thou shall not steal", right? I don't need a fictional novel to teach me the difference between right and wrong. I'm a good person yet some Christians here are claiming I'll burn in a lake of fire because I don't have an imaginary friend. Common sense says that a "lake of fire" is ridiculous in itself. So does the fact that anyone could survive 10 minutes in a lake of fire, let alone 10,000 years.
@bombsy420 Not to mention the fact that the bible is the last book you want to derive your morals from. Unless you want to murder or exile people that plant vegetable gardens, own clothing with fabric blends, disobedient children, homosexuals, and that's a-ok to sell your daughter into slavery and to own slaves so long as the coma you beat them into lasts no longer than 2 days. Also, the punishment for rape? A fine. And if the girl was a virgin, they must be married.
@Mrsjaylynn83 So you take the good bits from the bible and ignore the ridiculous / evil bits? That shows you can already tell good from bad and don't need a book to tell you.
@Mrsjaylynn83 I don't know about you, but I'M not a wicked sinner, I'm a generally pretty nice guy----I do my best to behave well and to have a positive effect on the people around me. Oh yeah, and I'm an atheist.
God is a creator he created us didn't he. He reads our hearts no human can do this. So let's all stop wondering about stuff. The bible is from God Who has a name Yahwah or Jehovah. Don't doubt his word it is impossible for him to lie read Titus 1 v 2.
Sad video. I'm a Christian but I can't count how many times my behavior made it seem I was no different than an theist. I think many of us so called Christians live a life of mindless rebellion to our faith and live as though we are an atheist in disguise. God help us to be real.
Hahaha wtf, you go on to show theist people as evil racist people.
And Hitler's faith is debatable. He said that he would prefer Islam over Christianity because Islam actually hates Jews and he also said that one cannot be German and Christian yet he said things about being Christian.. Don't know about Hitler.
This is real sad. But not all of us have it in us with a faith some do some don't. Why should all these people wanna know God they don't give him a second thought do they? They have their rewards now don't they in this life. Money, health, fame. But when things go wrong who's the first person people pray to for help GOD.
You must pray for the souls that are still alive as well as your own family members. Let them know, we dont allow strangers in our house and neither does God.
He did mention Adolf Hitler in the "Christian" section, and this in fact is completely and historically incorrect. Adolf Hitler was an advocate for eradication of all religion, and was definitely not attending Sunday mass. It is this author's assumption that because Adolf Hitler was responsible for millions of Jewish deaths in concentration camps (i.e. the Holocaust) throughout Austria, Poland and Germany; he must have been a crazy religious Christian. That is completely ignorant and false.
In general I'm accepting of all positions (I can see arguments for both) but...
James Cameron: Agnosticism is cowardly Atheism.
So wait, Atheism takes balls that Agnostics don't have? If any position takes balls it's Agnosticism because you're admitting that we just can't know either way, which is in no sense an cop-out.
@PaulthePhil In my opinion I believe it depends on the persons mind set. I think if you have an agnostic who came from a strict religious upbringing and is honest enough with themself to say "I dont know" then I'de say thats commendable...But if its a situation when a person just says "who knows if theres invicible dragons that poops leprechauns" just so they dont hurt the feelings of those that believe it, then I think James Cameron is right about it being cowardly.
@LaDay1471 This is probably the perfect example of what I am on about when I claim agnosticism because here we have Cameron making a claim that we can only take semantically (i.e. there's no context in which his claim is being made other than 'Atheists you may know'). You have abduced that actually he was being pragmatic, but there's nothing to go on to make that claim and we have to take it for face value which is: if you are an agnostic, you are a coward. So I disagree with your explanation.
@PaulthePhil " If any position takes balls it's Agnosticism because you're admitting that we just can't know either way" I used to think that way too. Here's how it was explained to me. "Gnosticism" refers to knowledge, and "Theism" refers to belief. So technically, you can be an agnostic-atheist, a gnostic-theist, or the reverse of those two. Very few people claim to KNOW if there's a god, so the real question is: what do you BELIEVE. (continued)
@PaulthePhil (continued) For myself, I don't know if there's a God, but based on the evidence (or mainly lack of evidence), I don't believe there is god. So I am an agnostic-atheist. I think Cameron's point is this. A lot of people will just say their an agnostic. Well, of course we don't know--so that's easy, but what do you believe? Right now, based on what you know of the universe, do you believe? I'm doubtful you can really be a fence-sitter with belief--you believe, or you don't.(cont)
@PaulthePhil I'm both--I don't KNOW (so I'm an agnostic with regards to KNOWLEDGE of God--agnostic means you don't know), but given the evidence or lack thereof, I don't BELIEVE (atheism means you don't believe), so I'm also an atheist. The two are not exclusive--they describe different things.
@PaulthePhil Theism is a statement about belief. One can always find different definitions--especially with all the dictionaries that exist, but the easiest way is to ask people what it means to them. In the end, this is the definition that counts when it comes to self-identity. If I told you I believed in Thor, and asked you if you did, which would be more accurate--to say you "deny Thor" or would you just say you don't share my belief in Thor? (continued)
@DandAinTac I'm not so sure that theism is a statement about belief alone. Knowledge is typically taken to be a form of belief (a true belief). With religious believers they believe their belief is justified and therefore they think it true. We all commit to forms of this belief-to-knowledge episteme. So for me to say that I don't share your belief in Thor is to deny it.
@PaulthePhil "Knowledge is typically taken to be a form of belief" It is true that these terms can be overlapping and somewhat amorphous. However, I would point out that context matters. Most reasonable people admit that they do not KNOW if God exists, but it does not stop most of us from forming a belief or disbelief. You yourself do this. The term "knowledge", while technically a form of believing, implies the certainty of having strong evidence. You can certainly believe without knowing.
@DandAinTac Well I disagree, if you believe something then 1)it must fit in with your background of beliefs and 2)if it fits into your background of beliefs then you take it to be justified which 3)when justified it is taken to be true knowledge. I don't really think your belief in God without justification for that belief really holds because for a belief to be held and not just considered it needs justification. In its justification the person would take it to be something they know.
@PaulthePhil So as to agnosticism vs. atheism. Certain knowledge is, at best, extremely rare. In fact, I would say absolute certainty is beyond human grasp, (which is one reason why I don't buy into any religious claims--they claim to offer certainty, but instead they peddle false comfort). BUT, we believe or disbelieve all the time, don't we? It is possible to buy a claim, or not, but looking at the evidence or lack thereof. (continued in one more post).
@PaulthePhil If I claimed I had an invisible, incorporeal, silent dragon in my garage, you may not KNOW for sure if it was true, but would it be reasonable for you to disbelieve such a claim? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Theists have been trying to prove the existence of Gods for thousands of years, but even after all this effort, no compelling evidence has yet been forthcoming as far as I can tell. So it is reasonable for me to disbelieve, even though I may not know.
@DandAinTac That would depend on the background of beliefs that I had. Of course with my actual background of beliefs I'd deny that you did, but if I were from a different place or time I may believe you. Similarly, the reasons of theists don't compel you because they doesn't fit in with your background of beliefs. My position is just that while I have no evidence for God, I also have no evidence against Him. (cont)
@PaulthePhil "theists don't compel you because they doesn't fit in with your background of beliefs" I'm not sure if you are making assumptions about my background, or if you are a behavioral determinist. I was raised a Christian by my mother, but became an atheist over the course of a lifetime, coming to realize this around the time I turned 48. I am not determinist, I believe we are actional, although our choices are sharply limited and our cultural subjects are socially constructed.
@DandAinTac I'm not making assumptions about your past, rather about the beliefs you hold based on theories of internal reasoning. I agree on the social construction, but I'm more inclined to say that we have no room for self-determination.
@DandAinTac The reason I don't believe in God is that there's no apparent evidence for Him (I believe we share this position). The reason I can't then say that God doesn't exist is because He may. The rationalists claimed that He is all the omni's which we are ignorant of hence we've to reason that He, is. (cont)
@PaulthePhil "I don't believe in God is that there's no apparent evidence for Him" That, in a nutshell, is the basic atheist position. Just as we would not believe in Vishnu, or Apollo, because there is no evidence, or fairies, unicorns, etc. It is completely reasonable, in fact, WISE, to not believe claims, especially BIG claims, without some strong evidence. Only very weak evidence has been put forward in favor of the God claim. I think there is actually stronger evidence AGAINST God.
@DandAinTac My whole point is that agnosticism also states that there is no evidence for Him, but it admits that there is also no evidence against Him. Frege would say that the concept of God maps onto the extension "non-identical with itself" i.e. there is no such thing. Russell would further explain that God denotes a number of predicates, of which all have a function of impossible (i.e.there is no such thing). I agree with Russell but even he admitted that he ought to call himself an agnostic
@DandAinTac The likes of Hume said that there's no sense data resembling God and therefore he doesn't exist. But Hume's problem of induction leaves possibility of God open, hence I won't commit to denial of Him, because I believe there is a tiny chance that He may be (I can't emphasise tiny enough here). It's really a position of admitting the topic is way over your head, which I think it is. Rather than oppose things like God, I think we'd be better off opposing oppressive religions, don't you?
@PaulthePhil "leaves possibility of God open, hence I won't commit to denial of Him, because I believe there is a tiny chance that He may be" You can still be an atheist and admit there's a small change He may be. Even Richard Dawkins ranks himself as a 7 on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being absolute certainty that God does not exist.
@PaulthePhil "Rather than oppose things like God, I think we'd be better off opposing oppressive religions, don't you?" I do not "oppose" God any more than I oppose any other mythical being. I'm right there with you on religion though, but I don't think it's so easy to separate religion from it's central character, God, and I don't think it's so easy to parse out what religions are "oppressive." I think the main ones all are. The monotheistic religions of Abraham are the worst (cont)
@DandAinTac Well, supposedly you don't oppose Mickey Mouse like you oppose God, assuming you oppose God at all (I could be misreading you when you say you don't oppose God more than other mythical beings). You're right, but it seems to me that the organisation and teaching of religion and a lack of general education is the main reason for fundamentalism which is what really ought to be tackled in my opinion.
@PaulthePhil ...with Islam and Christianity sharing the first place spot--at least amongst the world's major religions. The less religious a society is, the more well-off and happier the people seem to be. Sweden is the model for me here. So I have absolutely no problem with people who prefer to self-identify as agnostics. I did so for at least 15 years. Also, atheism is not enough. A rational, scientifically literate, humanistic worldview is needed as well.
@DandAinTac I'm not sure a less religious society leads to happiness per se, although with less focus on religion in education (to be honest, in my education religion didn't play any real part once I reached high school, which was fortunate because I thought it was a waste of time) and more focus on the sciences and humanities I do think that society would be much better.
@PaulthePhil So (this is my last post on this issue)--so the jury's in at any given moment. Of course you can change your mind, so it's not a binding contract--what do you believe--right now? If you can't say "GUILTY!" (equivalent to "I believe"), that there's insufficient evidence, that's the same as not believing. So, Cameron says in effect--be brave, and say what you really believe--now. It's hard, because the word "atheist" has so much social stigma.
@DandAinTac You say that having insufficient evidence amounts to non belief i.e.we don't know if there's a god therefore there isn't. But I have no first hand experience of Dubai yet that doesn't mean I shouldn't believe that there is such a place. So unless you can explain precisely what counts as sufficient evidence I'm not going to disbelieve in Dubai, although I'm not going to make any claims to its existence. That is the position I take with the Christian God et al.
A few questions for Christians. Have you ever lost a close friend or family member? If so, were you sad when they died? It's a little selfish if you were, they're in "a better place" after all. Also, do you think it's realistic that Santa Claus can visit every house in the world in one night? Obviously not, so why do you think an imaginary friend in the sky can hear you all on Sundays when you talk to him? If Heaven is a better place, why not end your life? It's better up there after all.
Sure, I've lost friends and close relatives over the years. Some unexpectedly but that doesn't effect my faith in God any because I'm aware of the workings of life and the choices we all have with free will. As for heaven, it's also a holy place of perfection for those that CHOSE to be forgiven by what Christ did by allowing Himself to go to the cross. God is both true love and true justice, it wouldn't be "heaven" if He let unrepentant people in "just because". It's a choice.
@tripleflip7 Ok, in regards to Heaven (aka: a better place), your answer is wishy-washy. Come on. You're smart enough to structure sentences properly but believe in a book that says that you should kill your neighbour for working on Sundays. I'm very confident we're going to see a day when people say "people used to believe in a God" just as we now say "people used to think the earth was flat". Evolve your thinking. You're smarter than this. Nothing in your response is concrete.
It's the fallen state of mankind's heart that God describes that claws and scratches to believe that their is "no God" and somehow humans are here for no apparent purpose. The view of your spirit is the exact opposite and wants to acknowledge and praise God.
Your last remark fulfills 2nd Peter 3 "In the last days will come scoffers, walking after their own ways and saying Where is the promise of Jesus return? For all things continue as they were from the beginning."
@tripleflip7 I respect your beliefs but things you mentioned are not concrete. All I want is someone to tell me what a typical day in Heaven would be like. Do you live in a house? Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner? Watch sports? You know, the real stuff that we do here on earth while we're living. I hear people refer to Heaven as a "better place". I'd love to know why. I'm confident there will soon be a day when people say we used to believe in a god just like people thought the earth was flat.
@tripleflip7 you didn't really answer my question. You say you've lost close friends and relatives over the years. Were you sad when they died? And if so, would you not think that's pretty selfish to feel sad when your loved one is in a better place? It's cool to believe in something. It's comforting. Unrealistic and definitely not tangible, but still comforting. If you believe in God and Jesus and the Bible for the chance that you may go to Heaven, that's fine. I'd rather be realistic.
So you are proud to be an atheist and you don't need to worry about going anywhere when you die? Cool. You admire you list of atheists? Smart folks, all of them. Here's one question for you... before the big bang, was there time? What caused the big bang and started time, and why did that just happen on it's own?? I am a Christian and I would never ever condemn you. What you believe or don't believe - that's your business. BTW -- you are obviously a Democrat with no class.
@Silverhorn103 Once again the christian response continues to amaze me "I am a Christian and I would never ever condemn you.BTW you are obviously a Democrat with no class" You do know that the word condemn means to declare something or someone befor knowing what it is?..Of course you did. Also not all atheist believe in the big bang, I would be 1 of them. BTW im not democrate or republican, some things I'm conservative and some im liberal..like a normal thinking person should be.

LaDay1471 1 day ago
@LaDay1471 This is where you are unlearned Christians have accepted Jesus Christ who have washed away our sin and if we falter he is faithful to forgive us our sins. The heavenly won't remember our sins when we repent with sincere repentants: Once a person accepts Jesus Christ and is filled with the Holy Spirit they are sealed until the day of redemption, no one can snatch us out of his hands.

Atheist are dying to find out God is real, by the thousands, every day, sad.
alohawg 2 weeks ago
@alohawg No Atheist cares about your fake, fictional god. History proves your religion and all others are nothing more than mythology. Not real, not true, just childish fairy tales that no adult with a reasonable level of intelligence has any business believing in. Try growing up already and think for yourself. Put the mythological superstitions and dogma in the past where it belongs.
baphxiii 2 weeks ago
@baphxiii Most historians agree on the historical facts that Jesus Christ was crucified and put in the tomb. Then comes the rub, the resurrection, the place where some will put forth all sorts of craziness in an attempt to avoid it and the implications associated. If you choose to side with the craziness that is your choice and you must suffer the consequences. The fairy tale is that we are here by some cosmic accident, any adult knows better.
alohawg 2 weeks ago
@alohawg You are incorrect. Most historians and biblical scholars will tell you that there is NO evidence what so ever that proves anything in the NT to be historical. There is no evidence of a crucifixion, tomb or resurrection. The oldest book of the NT was written in 70AD, therefor NOT by someone who witnessed the events they talk about. You believe in the mythology surrounding jesus made up long after the fact, not in actual history.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii THAT is 100% FALSE.
alohawg 1 week ago
@alohawg No, actually it is not. Go ask a biblical scholar or look it up yourself from a non-biased source.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii I'm done, I must be dealing with a kid who without any study somehow knows it all already.
alohawg 1 week ago
@alohawg Just started my forth decade on Earth. Been studying history for almost two thirds of that time. Funny how an Atheist knows more about the history of your religion than you do. You believe in the mythology of your religion, not the factual history of it.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii Congrats, I'm nearing the end of my 4th and the 5th year as a Christian. I have been where you are belief wise. I will die with the faith I now have, thank God. People smarter and more educated than you or I on this subject have come to a reasonable faith in Christ, a fact and one you would be wise to consider.
alohawg 1 week ago
@alohawg Bullshit. The vast majority of the most intelligent and highly educated people on Earth are all Atheists. There is a direct correlation between a human beings level of intelligence and education and their ability to not be naive and gullible to fall for the bullshit of religion. With every post you make you prove your willful ignorance and the desire to stay ignorant..Like I said before, I know the bible better than you do.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii Well for a super genius I must say I'm disappointed in your comprehension abilities. In your angry emotion driven response you missed the point. Surely you're not saying you are smarter than every believer or that no one smarter, more highly educated than you is a believer?
alohawg 1 week ago
@alohawg I wasn't talking about myself.. Man, talk about having poor reading comprehension skills. Face the truth, it will set you free. You are unable or unwilling to distinguish fact from fiction. You believe in a mythology, not provable, historical facts. This simple ability does in fact make me more intelligent that you obviously are. But that isn't saying much since you seem to be border line mentally retarded.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii If 140+ IQ is mentally retarded then I suppose you're right. I've faced the truth and it has set me free, free from all sorts of things that used to enslave me. To go from alcohol addiction to absolutely no desire overnight, from a 1 1/2 pack a day for 27 yr. smoker to stop cold turkey. I well know the difference between the natural and that which supersedes it, the supernatural. Specifically God and His awesome life changing power. You are still here, there's hope for you.
alohawg 1 week ago
@alohawg Under no stretch of the imagination do you have a 140 IQ. I call bullshit. There is no testable, provable, empirical evidence WHAT SO EVER that confirms the existence of ANYTHING supernatural. The fact that you claim there is with nothing to back up your claim shows how much of a fool you truly are. I think you may have added 100 to your claimed IQ. Only a fool believes in nonsense, like all religions. This is you. Though I do not think there is any hope for you, too brain washed.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii I could care less whether you believe me or not on my IQ. Now here's some wisdom, it is not possible to define the supernatural within naturalistic terms and limitations. God is not in the natural but rather outside of and the creator of the natural physical world in which you demand Him to be presented. That demand is in itself illogical and frankly reveals a very limited understanding.God owes you nothing, He already gives you the very breathe you use to curse Him, foolish.
alohawg 1 week ago
@alohawg One other thing. You say I must "suffer the consequences" if I do not believe in the mythology you were taught. That is asinine. You religious types do not seem to understand the fact that your silly religion has no affect in my world. Your fictional beliefs are only in your head, not in reality, and certainly not in history.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii Reality is not dependant on you or what you accept as true. You may deny gravity but jump off a high rise and you WILL suffer the consequences of gravity.
alohawg 1 week ago
@alohawg Stupid analogy. Still doesn't change the fact that your beliefs do not affect me.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii No, it's a great analogy but I can see why you wouldn't care for it.

Wasn't it the Atheistic bolsheviks who lined up those of faith against the wall and killed over 12 million people. Let's make a video for them too.
protochris 2 weeks ago
@protochris Once again the Bolsheviks were communist, in places were religion is outlawed its not because of atheism but government taking the place of religion and spreading fear so it can grab as much of the resources from the people it can..Thats communism. But if you would like to make a video of the Bolsheviks no ones stopping you, have at it.
LaDay1471 2 weeks ago 7
@LaDay1471 You're right, "Obamanism" is taking the place of religion and spreading fear and hatred while grabbing resources to create a national debt. Thank God our constitution is based upon God given rights, and not those from an atheistic institution like communism.
protochris 2 weeks ago
@protochris Actually the constitution was written by mostly atheist and those of a secular nature. If it wasn't we would still be in the dark ages..Remember? When Christianity was law, thousands killed, tortured, pulled apart, children beheaded, stoned to death and burned alive for believing in something different because that's a very moral action to take I suppose. Also our national debt started in the 1700's but I can see how Obama got into a time machine and got the ball rolling :-P
LaDay1471 2 weeks ago 6
@LaDay1471 Only 3 of the 55 delegates to the constitution were nominal atheists. Bolshevikism (atheistic state) killed over 14 million people, Atheistic Naziism-another 12 million (mostly Jews and Christians). Christianity can't' even put a drop into that atheistic bucket. The Debt before Obama was 6.3 trillion, he's already increased that by 2.5 trillion. Under Reagan, it was only 2.19 Trillion. You can unplug that time machine.
protochris 2 weeks ago
@protochris Are you a complete moron, or do you just play one online? Communism and Nazism are not Atheist. You are completely misinformed. Hitler was a Roman Catholic. The vast majority of the average Nazi soldiers were Catholics and Lutherans. Atheists were sent to the camps with the Jews, not Christians. Communism became the state religion and is completely different from Atheism. You probably think ANYTHING that goes against your religion is Atheist. You are wrong.
baphxiii 2 weeks ago
@baphxiii Hitler-a baptized Catholic, turned against the church and killed Catholic Christians. You need to tell the families of those hundreds of thousands of Polish Catholics led to the gas chamber under Hitler that it was all a fantasy. I suppose they're morons to you too. Also, Communism didn't become the state religion; it seized Orthodoxy and executed it's clergy. Your history is mythology.
protochris 2 weeks ago
@protochris If our rights were actually "god given" as you claim then the founding fathers would not have bothered to make the separation of church and state such an important part of the Constitution. Plus, putting all the blame on one person, Obama, shows how truly ignorant you are about the world.
baphxiii 2 weeks ago
@baphxiii The Declaration of independence was the guide for our US constitution and it reads that "all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights". Yes, our rights are derived from a belief in God. The phrase separation of church and state is not in the Constitution; enemies of religion love to make that claim. I don't blame Obama at all, I blame the masses that voted him into power.
protochris 2 weeks ago
@protochris My bad, I meant the Bill of Rights. I didn't vote for Obama either. So where do you get off claiming "Obamaism" is taking the place of religion? There are too many zealots and fundies like yourself in the US for that to ever happen.
baphxiii 1 week ago
@baphxiii Obama just attempted to tell the Catholic church that it had to provide services contrary to their moral and ethical beliefs: contraception and abortion. He backed off because it's an election year. There might be alot of zealots like me, but we don't wear black judicial robes.

Mrsjaylynn83 1 month ago
How did we come to being if not for god? Athiest usually evolutionalize saying we came from a small atom and evolving ect ect, but where did the atom come from? There is no scientific law or demonstrable process that can account for non-living objects coming to life. The non-living soil in your garden didn't turn into living trees and flowers. They came from seeds, cuttings, or grafts from other living trees and flowers. Life invariably comes from something that is already alive.
Mrsjaylynn83 1 month ago
Also, who does it hurt to believe? If you're wrong then by all guidelines you will burn in hell (ouch), if I'm wrong I won't know any better in the first place. If you're right, then after death there is nothingness, If I'm right, I'm in heaven. Either way for you, life after death sucks. Who wants to go through life fearing what's beyond. My beliefs give me comfort and faith knowing life doesn't end here on earth. So, if I am wrong, why not error on the side of heaven? Who does it really hurt?
Mrsjaylynn83 1 month ago
Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities---So why do most atheist feel the need to trash and bad mouth christianity? If you don't believe, great, good for you, but some choose to believe and have faith that there is something out there bigger and better. I don't intentionally set up arguements against atheist(I have seen some judemental christians). Just be a human.
Mrsjaylynn83 1 month ago
3 simple questions for those who believe in the Bible and God.
1. Do you really think that Jesus was born from a virgin? Maybe things were different in year -1 BC, but nowadays it takes sex to get pregnant.
2. Should you kill your neighbour for working on a Sunday?
3. Can you explain why so many religious leaders before Jesus have extremely similar stories? Buddha, Krishna, Odysseus, Romulus, Dionysus, Heracles, Glycon, Zoroaster, Attis of Phrygia, and Horus all have similar stories.
bombsy420 1 month ago
@bombsy420 Fun Fact: if you DON'T stone your neighbor to death if you see them working on a Sunday you're a bad Christian.
fromaginator1 1 month ago
@fromaginator1 ???? You're speaking of jewish laws and guidelines!
Mrsjaylynn83 1 month ago
@Mrsjaylynn83 Jewish people have a similar rule but Christians also aren't supposed to work on Sunday
fromaginator1 1 month ago

You're too smart to believe in the bullshit in the bible.
bombsy420 1 month ago

Logical thinkers, Athiests, have common sense and think for themselves.
bombsy420 1 month ago
@Mrsjaylynn83 You get from the Bible what you need? Things like "Thou shall not kill" and "Thou shall not steal", right? I don't need a fictional novel to teach me the difference between right and wrong. I'm a good person yet some Christians here are claiming I'll burn in a lake of fire because I don't have an imaginary friend. Common sense says that a "lake of fire" is ridiculous in itself. So does the fact that anyone could survive 10 minutes in a lake of fire, let alone 10,000 years.
bombsy420 1 month ago

Sad video. I'm a Christian but I can't count how many times my behavior made it seem I was no different than an theist. I think many of us so called Christians live a life of mindless rebellion to our faith and live as though we are an atheist in disguise. God help us to be real.

PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil In my opinion I believe it depends on the persons mind set. I think if you have an agnostic who came from a strict religious upbringing and is honest enough with themself to say "I dont know" then I'de say thats commendable...But if its a situation when a person just says "who knows if theres invicible dragons that poops leprechauns" just so they dont hurt the feelings of those that believe it, then I think James Cameron is right about it being cowardly.
LaDay1471 1 month ago 2

(continued)
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil (continued) For myself, I don't know if there's a God, but based on the evidence (or mainly lack of evidence), I don't believe there is god. So I am an agnostic-atheist. I think Cameron's point is this. A lot of people will just say their an agnostic. Well, of course we don't know--so that's easy, but what do you believe? Right now, based on what you know of the universe, do you believe? I'm doubtful you can really be a fence-sitter with belief--you believe, or you don't.(cont)
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac "I don't know if there's a God... So I am an agnostic-athiest"
"I'm doubtful you can really be a fence-sitter with belief--you believe, or you don't."
So are you agnostic or atheistic then?
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil I'm both--I don't KNOW (so I'm an agnostic with regards to KNOWLEDGE of God--agnostic means you don't know), but given the evidence or lack thereof, I don't BELIEVE (atheism means you don't believe), so I'm also an atheist. The two are not exclusive--they describe different things.
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac Agnosticism: The lack of proof of either the negation or affirmation of a proposition
Atheism: The negation of theism (denial of God)
Question: How can you believe or disbelieve if you don't know?
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil Theism is a statement about belief. One can always find different definitions--especially with all the dictionaries that exist, but the easiest way is to ask people what it means to them. In the end, this is the definition that counts when it comes to self-identity. If I told you I believed in Thor, and asked you if you did, which would be more accurate--to say you "deny Thor" or would you just say you don't share my belief in Thor? (continued)
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac I'm not so sure that theism is a statement about belief alone. Knowledge is typically taken to be a form of belief (a true belief). With religious believers they believe their belief is justified and therefore they think it true. We all commit to forms of this belief-to-knowledge episteme. So for me to say that I don't share your belief in Thor is to deny it.
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil "Knowledge is typically taken to be a form of belief" It is true that these terms can be overlapping and somewhat amorphous. However, I would point out that context matters. Most reasonable people admit that they do not KNOW if God exists, but it does not stop most of us from forming a belief or disbelief. You yourself do this. The term "knowledge", while technically a form of believing, implies the certainty of having strong evidence. You can certainly believe without knowing.
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac Well I disagree, if you believe something then 1)it must fit in with your background of beliefs and 2)if it fits into your background of beliefs then you take it to be justified which 3)when justified it is taken to be true knowledge. I don't really think your belief in God without justification for that belief really holds because for a belief to be held and not just considered it needs justification. In its justification the person would take it to be something they know.
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil So as to agnosticism vs. atheism. Certain knowledge is, at best, extremely rare. In fact, I would say absolute certainty is beyond human grasp, (which is one reason why I don't buy into any religious claims--they claim to offer certainty, but instead they peddle false comfort). BUT, we believe or disbelieve all the time, don't we? It is possible to buy a claim, or not, but looking at the evidence or lack thereof. (continued in one more post).
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil If I claimed I had an invisible, incorporeal, silent dragon in my garage, you may not KNOW for sure if it was true, but would it be reasonable for you to disbelieve such a claim? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Theists have been trying to prove the existence of Gods for thousands of years, but even after all this effort, no compelling evidence has yet been forthcoming as far as I can tell. So it is reasonable for me to disbelieve, even though I may not know.
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac That would depend on the background of beliefs that I had. Of course with my actual background of beliefs I'd deny that you did, but if I were from a different place or time I may believe you. Similarly, the reasons of theists don't compel you because they doesn't fit in with your background of beliefs. My position is just that while I have no evidence for God, I also have no evidence against Him. (cont)
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil "theists don't compel you because they doesn't fit in with your background of beliefs" I'm not sure if you are making assumptions about my background, or if you are a behavioral determinist. I was raised a Christian by my mother, but became an atheist over the course of a lifetime, coming to realize this around the time I turned 48. I am not determinist, I believe we are actional, although our choices are sharply limited and our cultural subjects are socially constructed.
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac I'm not making assumptions about your past, rather about the beliefs you hold based on theories of internal reasoning. I agree on the social construction, but I'm more inclined to say that we have no room for self-determination.
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@DandAinTac The reason I don't believe in God is that there's no apparent evidence for Him (I believe we share this position). The reason I can't then say that God doesn't exist is because He may. The rationalists claimed that He is all the omni's which we are ignorant of hence we've to reason that He, is. (cont)
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil "I don't believe in God is that there's no apparent evidence for Him" That, in a nutshell, is the basic atheist position. Just as we would not believe in Vishnu, or Apollo, because there is no evidence, or fairies, unicorns, etc. It is completely reasonable, in fact, WISE, to not believe claims, especially BIG claims, without some strong evidence. Only very weak evidence has been put forward in favor of the God claim. I think there is actually stronger evidence AGAINST God.
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac My whole point is that agnosticism also states that there is no evidence for Him, but it admits that there is also no evidence against Him. Frege would say that the concept of God maps onto the extension "non-identical with itself" i.e. there is no such thing. Russell would further explain that God denotes a number of predicates, of which all have a function of impossible (i.e.there is no such thing). I agree with Russell but even he admitted that he ought to call himself an agnostic
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@DandAinTac The likes of Hume said that there's no sense data resembling God and therefore he doesn't exist. But Hume's problem of induction leaves possibility of God open, hence I won't commit to denial of Him, because I believe there is a tiny chance that He may be (I can't emphasise tiny enough here). It's really a position of admitting the topic is way over your head, which I think it is. Rather than oppose things like God, I think we'd be better off opposing oppressive religions, don't you?
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil "leaves possibility of God open, hence I won't commit to denial of Him, because I believe there is a tiny chance that He may be" You can still be an atheist and admit there's a small change He may be. Even Richard Dawkins ranks himself as a 7 on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being absolute certainty that God does not exist.
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil "Rather than oppose things like God, I think we'd be better off opposing oppressive religions, don't you?" I do not "oppose" God any more than I oppose any other mythical being. I'm right there with you on religion though, but I don't think it's so easy to separate religion from it's central character, God, and I don't think it's so easy to parse out what religions are "oppressive." I think the main ones all are. The monotheistic religions of Abraham are the worst (cont)
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac Well, supposedly you don't oppose Mickey Mouse like you oppose God, assuming you oppose God at all (I could be misreading you when you say you don't oppose God more than other mythical beings). You're right, but it seems to me that the organisation and teaching of religion and a lack of general education is the main reason for fundamentalism which is what really ought to be tackled in my opinion.
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil ...with Islam and Christianity sharing the first place spot--at least amongst the world's major religions. The less religious a society is, the more well-off and happier the people seem to be. Sweden is the model for me here. So I have absolutely no problem with people who prefer to self-identify as agnostics. I did so for at least 15 years. Also, atheism is not enough. A rational, scientifically literate, humanistic worldview is needed as well.
DandAinTac 1 month ago
@DandAinTac I'm not sure a less religious society leads to happiness per se, although with less focus on religion in education (to be honest, in my education religion didn't play any real part once I reached high school, which was fortunate because I thought it was a waste of time) and more focus on the sciences and humanities I do think that society would be much better.
PaulthePhil 1 month ago
@PaulthePhil So (this is my last post on this issue)--so the jury's in at any given moment. Of course you can change your mind, so it's not a binding contract--what do you believe--right now? If you can't say "GUILTY!" (equivalent to "I believe"), that there's insufficient evidence, that's the same as not believing. So, Cameron says in effect--be brave, and say what you really believe--now. It's hard, because the word "atheist" has so much social stigma.
DandAinTac 1 month ago

It's better up there after all.
bombsy420 1 month ago
@bombsy420
It's a choice.
tripleflip7 1 month ago
@tripleflip7 Ok, in regards to Heaven (aka: a better place), your answer is wishy-washy. Come on. You're smart enough to structure sentences properly but believe in a book that says that you should kill your neighbour for working on Sundays. I'm very confident we're going to see a day when people say "people used to believe in a God" just as we now say "people used to think the earth was flat". Evolve your thinking. You're smarter than this. Nothing in your response is concrete.
bombsy420 1 month ago
@bombsy420
For all things continue as they were from the beginning."
tripleflip7 1 month ago
@tripleflip7 I respect your beliefs but things you mentioned are not concrete. All I want is someone to tell me what a typical day in Heaven would be like. Do you live in a house? Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner? Watch sports? You know, the real stuff that we do here on earth while we're living. I hear people refer to Heaven as a "better place". I'd love to know why. I'm confident there will soon be a day when people say we used to believe in a god just like people thought the earth was flat.
bombsy420 1 month ago
@tripleflip7 you didn't really answer my question. You say you've lost close friends and relatives over the years. Were you sad when they died? And if so, would you not think that's pretty selfish to feel sad when your loved one is in a better place? It's cool to believe in something. It's comforting. Unrealistic and definitely not tangible, but still comforting. If you believe in God and Jesus and the Bible for the chance that you may go to Heaven, that's fine. I'd rather be realistic.
