Thanks for posting this vid! I was going to go with a different style dust shoe but you've convinced me to try this instead. Having all those various dust skirts for different materials and different heights is a great idea. It would be great if you could post a vid of the dust shoe in action.
I do not think a shop vac will create enough vacuum to hold down parts. You will probably need a vacuum pump or a large air compressor with a venturi valve...
Very good design. I was thinking about making something like that my self. Have you ever put any thought into using a "Shop-Vac" style vacuum as a vacuum table to hold your workpiece. I have a general idea as to how it should work, but I don't know if it would create enough vacuum pressure to hold the wood/plastic. Any ideas?
