The original Dudleys were: Big Dick Dudley (the manager), Lil Snot Dudley, & Dudley Dudley. Lil Snot suffered a jet ski injury after wrestling just 2 matches in ECW. Sign Guy Dudley was the next Dudley to appear. Then Dances With Dudley followed by Buh-Buh Ray and then Chubby Dudley. D'Von Dudley and Spike Dudley were like the last Dudleys to be introduced. Joel Gertner was nicknamed "Studley Dudley". Bushwhackers made one appearance as a members of the Dudleys
Nobody was ever going to mistake Rick & Scott for Dean Malenko and Bret Hart, but they were just so powerful, athletic, and high-impact, plus Rick's "dumb, lovable attack dog" persona was uber-catchy.
"Big Poppa Pump" was okay sometimes, but RIP Scott Classic.
I remember Rick Steiner paralyzed Buff Bagwell with The Steiner Bulldog like the one at 8:10 on a taping of WCW Thunder. It's one of the most dangerous moves in my opinion. Nobody uses it nowadays cause no one has perfected it like the Steiner Brothers!
At 7:52, you never see moves like the Dragon Suplex in the WWE nowadays. With exception with a few WWE wrestlers, WWE and ECW is watered down now more than ever. It's pretty sad considering we've have such quality matches like this one....
@81carlos there is a WWF tape floating around that has the Steiner bros vs Bret and Owen Hart, in it, Steiners and Harts go to the timelimit, but the Steiners hit both a Dragon Suplex and a Steiner screwdriver on Owen.
@fueledbymadness My thing is how did Paul Heyman afford to pay the Steiners to come to ECW? It must have cost a pretty penny especially when you consider that by early 1999 Vince Mcmahon was privatly funding ECW behind the scenes...incase you think I'm lieing checkout the ECW that was showing up in WWF and leaving for WCW during that time.
@thebig1 I think the Steiners were between companies at the time. They weren't around for very long at all, so I don't think they would've been contracted to ECW. I think they were floating around the independent circuit at the time while they sorted out a contract with one of the big two and probably weren't charging a heap of money. The cross-promotional stuff with WWF was later on. And yeah, WCW did go after a lot of ECW's talent, which Paul E. is probably still angry about.
If there was one day in my life to relive it was this day. The thunderstorm went just behind the racetrack, it was hardcore. There was a live band playing the intros. Talked to Paul E,,, 1995 was the first trip to NY for ECW. This was the days of staying up watching, hoping, praying it would actually be played on Sportschannel at 1,2,3,4 AM. Better matches on the card, the chant of "Snort a line Marty" and Niedhart audibly saying to him as they locked up "Holy S*** ,man" was pure ECW.
"big" dick dudley was suppose to be in the wwe as vince's bodyguard but it didn't happen this is a true story too. but he ended up in XPW and became world champion there. His gimmick was to be like TEST. that's why he wasn't in ECW around 99 nor in WWF/E
Actually, he died in 2002. He left ECW in 1999 and went on to help create XPW in California and also wrestled in other indies. That's why he wasn't with Bubba Ray, D-Von and Spike in WWE.
No. Rick Steiner was selected to team with the Tazmaniac at ECW The Three-Way Dance, April 8, 1995, after Sabu bailed out on the company. It was Voldemort and Deano Machino defending the belts against the Public Enemy (RIP) and Taz/Steiner. TPE regained the belts that night.
I remember when Rick Steiner was brought in after the Double tables event when Taz and Sabu was suppose to defend their ECW Tag titles vs the Public enemy and Benoit/Malenko, Sabu left to go to Japan without notice and Rick Steiner came in to tag with Taz at the event Three way dance.
I've got to disagree as far as the Steiners go. Wrestling changed and they changed with it. Both still could go while in WCW but didn't have to. Similar to Triple H and Steve Austin who were pretty good if not above average technical wrestlers but when moved to the more gimmick oriented persona's dropped the technical stuff for "signature" moves.
what's the referee said, he called one of them 'big d**k dudleys?' Was there a wrestler call 'big d**k dudleys' in dudleys before? How come I never saw him in WWE?
Stiener was huge before he BPP even in the early 90's he was huge he just didn't have that superstar gimmick like BPP that made everyone notice. And I can name 20 wrestlers from that time period that were better all around wrestlers than Stiener.

The Steiners' ECW run was their last hurrah as far as being really good ring performers goes. They were already pretty crappy a year later in WCW.
There were a lot of Dudleys before Bubba, DVon and Spike... Snot, Chubby, Sign Guy, Dances With (Indian gimmick), etc.
cmitchz 4 years ago
Yeah, the Dudley's were originally a comic relief team until D-Von came.
