  • There is not a 'perfect' stabilizer. Each system is difficult and it takes time to learn to balance and use them. My only complaint with this Merlin is the price. Other systems that cost half or less of a Merlin can perform very well.

  • so the merlin 900 and the camera you using is 200...koo

  • You know I've been using the Cam Caddie Scorpion for a year or so and have been watching the videos taken with the Merlin and the quality is pretty damn similar except that I only payed $38.

  • I just hate it when I see a puny little camcorder on the merlin

  • ca i use this steadycam for a Nikon D7000?...and what 's the name of this steadycam?

  • @tonangimedia Too late for you, but perhaps somebody else will benefit -- depending on your lens, your camera may have been too front-heavy on the Merlin, or just plain too heavy. If it was too front-heavy, you may have needed an adapter for the sled so that your camera's center of gravity could be placed over the gimbal.

  • You want to try making one. I now know why they cost that much. They must have guys in white coats using laser cutters and weight guages and so on to make each one of these things. IT. Is . A . Bastard. To find the point of Dynamic balance. Took me ages to get right on the one I made. They have to get everyone right.

  • this is too difficult to use for the average person, hence the reason why it will never go mainstream. someone someday will invent something easier and simpler custom made for specific cameras that anyone can use and that person will be very rich.

  • can this be used for something as small as a flip video?

  • Did you do your research prior to buying? The specs on these camera stabilizers will tell the weight range of that particular unit. This is info is directly from Tiffen website, (Merlin Page). The new Merlin Arm and Vest make extended shooting nearly effortless. Even with heavy cameras up to seven pounds (3.2kg) with the optional Metal Gimbal the Merlin can now fly for hours without undue fatigue, and preserve all the flexibility.

  • 800 bucks and it comes with a plastic piece of crap handle..what a joke

  • @dabigjokeoftheday

I think you forgotten about the physics. :x

  • @dabigjokeoftheday What would you suggest the handle is made out of? Plastic is entirely perfect for this application. Don't forget that metal isn't as easy to hold, it's slippery, and for the same price as plastic weighs a lot more.

    Plastic is fine.

  • @dabigjokeoftheday truth although it really is a great system if you learn how to use it

  • @dabigjokeoftheday i think the cost comes from the super miniature bearings that can withstand a heavy load for their size that are inside the gimbal. also the extremely stiff aluminum, and the precise mechanisms it has. no small imperfections.

except for that handle, which feels pretty dense, but poorly made.

  • hey where i can to buy that.. please tell me

  • How much does it cost? (in Euro) Please

    I think it's good.....

  • Notice two diffrent cam's.

  • Has nothing to do with it and infact its easier to make a cam like the first more balanced the secind camera anf in fact the second camera the dvx-100 is almost inapropriate for the merlin!
