People should be careful who they pray to. Robert Johnson is dead. She is opening herself up to devils asking spirits to come into her and help her. I'll carry on struggling to get a decent tune outta my guitar rather than play with devils.
We should be honored that she has taken the time to research the late, great Robert Johnson's style of guitar playing in depth and we can just sit on our asses to copy her.
also if you aint got a git long enough for open G with a capo like me then you can tune to open A...E A E A C# E starting from the top string working down... does put a fair bit of tension on the strings though so watch for that.gives the same sound though its always worth remebering RJ could have been sped up.theres a few rumours to that effect.so its plausible he actually used open G or G#.but thats just an idea i had due to the rumours.anyway good lesson and shes crazy nuts.lol.but cool.
Sorry, this lesson is so f+++ing amazing, real, cool, soulfull that I actually consider buying the DVD which is, to me, a complete new expierience. You´re the man...uhmm, you´re the woman, thanx thanx thanx from germany...!
Wow, good thing the spirit of Robert Johnson comes down to help her. God forbid, she actually has talent through hard work and practice with some natural soul.
id like to have the spirit of that git fiddle in my hands they say what guitar you play dosent matter but i notice people that make it have the best stuff all set up for them it does make a big difference ill only get to play them in the music store if that so you new guys get a good one if you can screw the old junk peez out
Fuck everyone on here that says she is weird, this woman rocks and you can tell she is a real musician. She can play and she has soul, anyone that that thinks she is weird needs to play guitar on the weekends after working your desk jobs...this woman is a pro and the real deal; if you want to play guitar like this, you have to be "a bit weird".
I went down to the Crossroads, and by the time I was done with the Devil, he sold me HIS soul!!!!
I have been into RJ for a few decades now, and finally starting to learn. Waiting on a Gibson L-1 RJ model as I write this. Glad I checked Rory out. I'll be buying her DVD soon. Great teacher!!!!
Nice i like this tune but very complex, its going to take years of pratice to get to a level to perform it. Do you know the Leadbelly tune (Sombody's Digging My Potatoes) can you break that tune down for me Please?, Or you know someone. There's not one Tutorial here for it on you tube. I thought Maybe Rubin Dobbs may do it but nothing there either. (Please help) cool snap, nice guitar.
how typical conjuring the spirit of robert johnson in order to help her play her guitar. isnt that what all the other rock guitarist do to help them play some things that that they cant play over again the exact way they did it the first time. why cause they didnt do it the spirit that they conjured did. that exactly what carlos santana was talking about.
i really just dont dig her version, its a bit "off" in timing. i dont know, not to take anyway from her. i saw her once in chicago, and i left midway, just didnt feel it.
you said that a guitar song needs to have a drive to it..i didnt think much about it because i make a lot of stoner mellow stuff but then i thought about what you said and it really changed how i play.i think sometimes people are scared of their own voices or instruments and its really groovy that you were able to open me upwhat you said
@digitaldown just like the legend says robert johnson sucked on the guitar until he sold his soul to satan and then he was the greatest guitarist. he went from worst to the best in a mater of 6 months or so. then he died so young didnt even live to tell about it. well I guess he did tell about it in his lyrics.
The devil's got money, he's got lawyers, but he don't have music. He hasn't caught Robert Johnson yet, and he never will.
The devil numbs you, makes it fake, but if your hair stands on end, and you get a little scared, that ain't lies - that's the truth coming through, the glowing spark of hope that the dark will never swallow.
That's what it means to know the blues, and that's why it's holy.
I like her words. The 'bollocks' bit is probably a little clue to how she finds the words to explain the feeling of the rhythms and licks. It's an intelligent intution coming from open-mindedness. which leads to her being able to 'feel' it better than Eric Clapton.
Rory Gallgher once said that blues players dont play guitar 'they hit the bloody thing!' What he meant was to play with energy and emotion and she has that!
Rory is an amazing player. I just can't get over her attack! If there's any chance of me ever getting any of her style it's gonna be off of her videos. Wish I got the DVDs instead of the VHS versions! lol. Dang. She is excellent.
rory block is true. ... I mean ... it seems she has a natural enthusiaism for robert johnsons due to her NURTURED love for robs music..... it good to see that because it certainly is rare....
shes really good, no matter who plays Robert Johnson you can tell how much they admire what a great talent he was, after all he was the greatest blues man ever, and blues is the foundation of rock and roll...plus quite probably the greatest guitarist, ever
nice dynamics. She understands that the guitar is also a percussion instrument
