Great effort by great fighters! The 80's were the last golden age of boxing. I think they stopped it too early. Remember that Art was the champ and should've been given a little more time. He was still protecting himself. I remember seeing a documentary with Art and his wife in it. They'd been promised a shot to regain the title but never got it. :(

Mancini was a made up bum. He fought a bunch of washed up fighters and always avoided defending his title against somebody tough and when he finally had to he got his ass beat.
Great round! Listen to the crowd cheer as the boxers beat each other bloody. And they erupt in euphoria at the knockdowns. Didn't Mancini kill a guy? Yet, they want to make Michael Vick out to be the Devil incarnate.
No he did not kill him, Kim was fighting hard too, there was only one way for that fight to end because both men were warriors.. Micheal Vick deserves every minute of jail time has for his cruelty to animals, so dont even compare that to Mancini.. for the record, he was never the same after that fight, it hurts him to this day..
That's my point, two human beings fought to the death; and it was entertainment. In Vick's case, it was dogs fighting to the death. Besides, people eat animals EVERY DAY!!! The next time you have a burger, first take a trip to your neighborhood abattoir. The manner in which livestock are slaughtered is inhumane, to say the least.
No need to get an attitude, just try and read for context. My point is that boxing is a brutal sport where people cheer as two human being beat each other bloody, and where people sometimes are killed. Therefore, it's hypocritical to vilify dogfighters. The fact is that people are by nature, bloodthirsty. That's why videos like "faces of death" are so popular, or why people gawk at traffic smashups.
point is, in boxing there are rules. it's not up to the combatant to lay down those rules in mud. that's up to the referee. there's no doubt it's a brutal sport, but MMA has overtaken that for brutality. boxing fatalities occur from poor refereeing, not from a dog clamping down on another's throat until the blood and life is sucked the fuck out of it.
@thetodd3 I totally agree with you. I have said this for years. Ray was a great fighter and it was a blessing to watch him fight. He won the second fight against Bramble, without a doubt.
ztztzyzy, please remember; Boom fought the "mediocre" Bramble, who just so happens to be a H.O.F boxer after the Kim fight, which changed not only Booms life and career but boxing forever,i.e. 15 to 12 rds. The G.O.A.T. ? Probably not, but a champion nonetheless, World champion.
"Great champion"? You regurgitated cumwad, he was an exciting fighter for sure, but a "great champion" would've never been humiliated by a mediocre Bramble.
Boom Boom was the greatest?? Greatest what, Preparation H pitch man? I'm sure Arguello would have something to say about that as well as the legendary (har, har) Livingstone Bramble who whipped Mancini twice!
jrek, it might be the last great era. Guys like Mancini were the scrappers and they had the great stories. Then you had the legends who later proved they were for real like Hagler,Hearns, Leonard, Benitez and Duran. Those guys made the era and the important thing is they came to fight. Guys now fight, but they do not come to fight the same way.

I disagree. He fought a prime Arguello and gave him all he could handle until late in that fight.

Not only that, he fought him at 20 years old!! If anything he burned out too early.

exactly..arguello's skill in the later rounds proved to be the difference, arguello would pour it on in the ends of fights....

i don't much care for the dog v. man argument.

For the record, Ray won his rematch with Bramble.
The three blind mice were obviously judging it.
