  • Have there been any copies made of this, or is it literally the last existing copy of the short? Surely it should at least be telecined for preservation if making a print isn't viable.

  • @PlutonikPenguin

Must be the last existing copy of this wonder short cartoon classic. I probably will have it transfer to Safety film as of my experience with the background of 35mm shorties.

  • I don't think you would have a problem projecting this. Old nitrate film is not as dangerous as some say, as long as it's in good condition which this seems to be. I've projected a lot of it and had no trouble. If you open a can and it's disintegrating from bad storage, it will be pretty obvious, and you shouldn't try to run it. Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed seeing it, though I don't think you can put out a fire with an electric fan.

  • @pebey and risk the film getting caught in the projector and burning up. f**k no!

If I was you, I might as well do what this guy does and run it through a editing bed

  • Anyone notice at 4:52 the handle thing for the fire bell disappears?

Yep, you're right ! But there is the Cartoon Datebase website bcdb.com, and you can find all the Mutt and Jeff short cartoon titles, as you can't miss that fastastic site ! Happy surfing, mate !!

  • I enjoy old, rare cartoons.

  • Very nice. You've done just what all major DVD release companies haven't -- to just show the damn things and let the public decide. Hopefully this encourages every video technician to throw away their 'digital cleaning' software. Thanks.

  • @YearOfCam Thank you for your comment. I sincerely agrees with you.

  • Well, during it's original release of this film back in September, 1926, it is silent film with occassionally intertitles provided. Probably along with some music accomplishment provided during at that time, I'm sure, but downloading something too modern from iTunes file is not the right way to be strung in it. I must leave this short film unedited and unchanged as of it's original version.

  • Would you play this accompined by "The Merry Wives of Windsor Overture?"

  • Sorry, unfortunately, I don't have it. Thanks.

  • @Silencebound - i meant download on iTunes the music and put it on Windows Movie Maker.
