The reason for that is there is a first nations group who live there and that is what it was always called until some white people came up and said "ooh let's name this the queen charolette islands!" ps, I think lots of Haida people ( I know ALOT who are more than a little angry) are a little upset with you, you should of done your research before making that comment.
Thank you for posting this, wish our baby humpback stranded this month in East Hampton, NY could have had the same happy ending, but than again, we would have had to act similarly, which was NOT the case here...may we all LEARN from our mistakes....
acting like gods? to me that doesnt even sound right. what happened here wasnt an act of "god" or they were not trying to portray god like tendencys. This is the way of our people, we have always had much respect for our land and our animals. These people that sang to the way were only speaking the language of their homeland and the whale responded. Its not god like acting. Its acting as our ancestors did.
Haa-wa! That was a great news story, brought tears to my eyes. What an amazing community you have. Thank you Donnie Edenshaw for the beautiful song that moved not only the whale, but us too.
Thank you. I have actually put together the raw footage into a 20 minute documentary following the progress throughout the day. If you give me an address I could send you a copy once it is complete.
Your Welcome! Glad to help. I was the other guy no one knows, that stopped at the filmaker's partner's house and told him to get to the beach, but I had to carry on working on phones. I went up but had to leave right away. Missed a real moment. But I guess because of my stopping there, they got a real videographer on the case, so I ultimately didn't miss much at all. Except my cut. haha..kidding Andrew.
I know all this people on here. Shout out to Big Ernie and Gunni. And to Donnie Edenshaw for singing a traditional Haida song for the whale, which to me give the whale power to swin back into the ocean. However, it was a great community effort to get the whale into the water. When the whale was in the water, it gave Donnie the chance to use he's singing ability to free the whale.
I spoke with a couple who were in a small boat off Tow Hill when they heard the crowd yell and saw the whale move off the beach. They said that as the whale freed itself, a much larger humpback cruised by them straight towards the small humpback. Must have been mom. It's been several days since we saw it go, and it has managed to avoid crashing into land so far.
wow beautiful animal, thank you all those who helped.

Haida Gwaii is the
"Queen Charolette islands" original name.
The reason for that is there is a first nations group who live there and that is what it was always called until some white people came up and said "ooh let's name this the queen charolette islands!" ps, I think lots of Haida people ( I know ALOT who are more than a little angry) are a little upset with you, you should of done your research before making that comment.

haha whale couldn't stand the singing so it got the fuck out of there.

YOU are a very rude person, you should learn more about the FN culture
rosey4skin 2 years ago
understanding the culture or not has nothing to do with how the singing sounds.

humans acting like gods, again. this is what's causing all the problems.
gabi83tm 3 years ago
Acting? haha
the problem is we dont 'act' like gods enough
scubajon88 3 years ago 2
the trouble is we can't. we are just humans, and we belong to this world, not the other way around. the world doesn't belong to us.
