That's abs crap, you cut out the most embarrassing moments of Farnhams career... I suppose Poison's death rattle on guitar would have been cut out and Red's underlying ability to not practice before forgetting all his music with the MSO has also been obliterated...
Frankly, the best "red faces" was when guest performers died in the feature spots. Dicky never let Red forget it either...
Amazing! I've been searching for a quality version of this footage for the longest time. Thank you so much for sharing here. 2 vocal greats...it just doesn't get much better than this.
yes i agree, i have more stuff but too big for uploading to here.....thanks for the comments..don't forget to checkout my baby son doing his best Johnny Karaoke,,,,lol
If you can get hold of the DVD 'Hey, Hey It's Saturday....by Request' it's on there in full. It should still be in the shops, or maybe you can get it online.
You'll see inside the cover it has Chapter 6: John Farnham meets Tom Jones.
from memory... when john came to sing his first line he 'hammed it it', pretended his voice was bone dry, a 'we are not worthy dueting with tom'. he got his laugh but quickly rejoined in 4 bars later. this performance was unscripted, they were both guests, never met before, and the choice of song was to play out to an ad break!
Yes, I remember this one on Hey Hey and I specifically came looking for it, so thanks for sharing it. This performance sent shivers up my spine and I've rated Tom Jones as the best male voice I've heard ever since. Farnesy goes good too but TJ just gets those hairs standing up on the back of your neck everytime. No wonder the birds threw their knickers at him.
What did they look like? You are devious! Actually, they didn't throw their knickers at him on Hey Hey. I was referring to Tom Jones in general - he is well known for having women throw their knickers at him during his concerts... and I imagine they'd be all sorts of colours.
Two TOTALLY hot men. I remember when I was just a little girl, watching Tom Jones (my mom liked him) and thought he was totally. And to combine these two, they both have very similar energy about them.
beautiful song, sung by two great singers

What a fantastic moment. John Farnham meeting one of his heros and blowing Tom Jones away with his talent at the same time!

John Farnham is amazing, no wonder he is known as The Voice.
It is a shame though that local ozi radios don't play his music as much. Instead any generic crap from usa , uk, gets the air play these days .......
But Hey Hey Thank god We got youtube!!!

I wonder if theres an adult Australian that couldn't instantly id Farnhams voice.

I saw the show live myself. Farnham did ham it up a bit but was genuinely nervous about singing with Tom. Classic TV moment actually..great memory!

My Yiddishe Mama, I miss her more than ever now
My Yiddishe Mama, I long to kiss her wrinkled brow
I long to hold her hand once more as I did in days gone by
And beg her to forgive me for things I did that made her cry
How few were her pleasures, she never cared for fashion's styles
Her jewels and her treasures, she found them in her baby's smiles
And, I know that I owe everything that I am today
To that wonderful lady so old and so gray
To that wonderful Yiddishe Mama of mine
