I recently started to study Ving Tsun (WSL lineage) and I'm very impressed with the system. Sure, it is possible that a karate guy can beat a VT guy, it really depends on the practisioner not always the system.
VT is a very nice close combat system and is very powerful if someone trains it well enough.. take for example a look at Sifu Morten Ibsen and his co. team :)
@hgamer Hey really quick palm at the very first strike i and my friend have been training wing chun recently but my friend learn taekwondo in the first place and he have pretty fast punches and quick reaction and he knows a lots of moves during double hand chi sao i always lose to him :(
I would really like to see a video of Wing Chun being applied in a real, non-rehearsed fight. I'm not calling it fake, I just tend to not be able to see some of the practicalities of it. I'm sure it works well because its been practiced for years, but it'd be interesting to see how it holds up against an attacker who doesn't do Wing Chun. perhaps a racist redneck would serve as a good example.
guys, guys actually theres no differences in any martial arts, every martial arts is the same is whether how you learn, not how long you have been learning.

My uncle studied wing chun for almost 9 years...and he got his ass kicked outside a 7/11 by a guy who had studied only a month of Karate. You people need a reality check! Wing chung is a watered down version of karate. It came from karate. DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE!
@gorfjorf2112112 you can't put down ALL of wing chun after ONE guy got his ass whopped...there could be millions of reasons why your uncle got his ass beat
1.he probably didn't understand what wing chun is therefore he probably didn't train properly 2. he had a bad teacher who didn't correct him, or didn't know him self how to teach or to use wing chun 3. your uncle could have been a dumb ass 4. the karate guy probably got lucky
@YoungCrs - My uncle was in a wheelchair...but that shouldn't matter. Cuz his teacher told him he can still defend himself using wing chun. But it didn't work.
@gorfjorf2112112 so you are saying a karate guy beat your uncle up, who was in a wheel chair at the time
that is total bullshit....either that or your uncle must have been asking for it
but anyway...the reason you just stated falls under category #2...he had a bad teacher who didn't correct him, or didn't know him self how to teach or to use wing chun...in wing chun, we depend on our structure...our whole body is put behind each and every technique, with out it, its just fast arm movements
@YoungCrs - He wasn't asking for it. He was in line at the movie theatre a kid cut in front of him. So my uncle said get in the back of the line or he'll beat the shit out of him. turns out the kid knew karate and beat up my uncle real bad. my uncle still has fears of kids now.
because you just sound like an ignorant mother fu*ker
you cannot base what you are saying off of one person's inexperience...in this case maybe 2...if anyone is stupid it is your uncle's sifu AND your uncle for believing in him....any serious teacher would have let his student know whats up from the beginning...if he didn't then he is just leading him into a fantasy separated from reality...not only that but it makes the sifu a money hungry douche
@gorfjorf2112112 Do your research? You should've done yours. First of all, Karate is Japanese (Okinawa), though it partially has its origins in quánfa (more colloquially know as Kung Fu). @gorfjorf2112112 Depends on the school compadre, training and the situation. Good training in Wing Chun is pretty necessary and if you run into it in the street it sucks to be on the receiving end. However a sucker punch, the element of surprise and good follow-up by a dedicated and ruthless opponent can always get the best of us. End of story is to be aware and know your own limits. However, I am sure Wing Chun was not the problem with your Uncle.
@gorfjorf2112112 due wing chun was started by female monks a couple thousand years ago. it has nothing to do with karate, karate is completly different, i think its you you should do his research

@gorfjorf2112112 Wing Chun is a chinese style. Karate is japanese. Wing Chun is based around striking your opponent with numerous lighter puches, while Karate strikes with singular strong punches.
@gorfjorf2112112 I will happily believe you if you can give a more convincing argument than simply "It does". As far as I know, Wing Chun is a style developed about 400 years ago for the average person to defend themselves against larger opponents.
@gorfjorf2112112 "Well, seeing that the earliest forms of Martial Arts aka Kung Fu were introduced in China around 2698 BC, and Karate was not thought of until 1933" This is a direct quote from a reliable sourced website. If you do your research you will find that kung fu originated long before karate. Wing chun is a style of southern kung fu which was devised by a woman having issues with a warlord suiter. She beat him using kung fu based on the crane and snake. That is what Wing Chun is.
@jorgebeltran Sucked then, any art with 8 years of training even if it is the shittiest one will make you atleast better than an average fighter. Either his master was shit or his 8 years were a fucking waste because of him.
Why isn't he attacking back? I thought wing chun is known for its simultaneous attack and deffence? Is this just a drill to help the guy on the right's reflexes?
Those "strikes" aren't very effective in a real fight, especially if your opponent is actually moving around and his feet aren't stuck in cement, lol.
You can tell this guy has really good flow and sensitivity. And for all the people who are always skeptical about Wing Chun, the problem is that most people don't understand it, even guys who practice and teach it. The idea is not to chase the hands and be obsessed with trapping. Trapping IS useful, but only to aid an attack. The idea is to attack the centerline and have constant forward energy. People who understand that do well with it. People who don't get the shit beaten out of them!
Student have to learn how too close the gab and judge distance with is opponent.Thats the essence of fighting.I think thats where sparring needs to involved. However it seems thats its not in WC philosophy to do that way.For those who think that WC is just theories, you need to know that during Ip Man period, student had to go in the street and get in a fight to test there technics. I think with the post Ip man generation such thing did get passed so you can see this little lack in the system..
@hgamer Nazis not nazi's, nazi's means that something belongs to someone called nazi but nazi with big N nazi with small n has no meaning. I remember that you were giving me English lessons you stupid fat monster
This looks very impressive. Are there any videos of Wing Chun being used in non-cooperative, non-rehearsed situations? Do you have any videos of action against opponents who are not doing Wing Chun?
Nope, but I'm sure if you search around YouTube you'll get your answer. I work part-time as a football steward/security officer so I have seen my fair share of "violence" (Usually drunkards or chavs that hound by the tens and twenties).
Not too sure how I'd do against a trained fighter though. I haven't been doing wing tsun long enough for that.
you can easily tell this requires reflex... i find the one inch punch harder yet useful because when they're blocking just move ur fist towards them and one inhc punch and knock them bak, but ur reallly good
Instead of some of you guys rubbishing videos then why dont you post what you think is wrong and make a video showing what is right? Otherwise shut up!!
alright little ni993r tell me how to do it then post a video because you seem to talk loads of shit on shotokan karate videos, and then dare people to upload something like you're not a ghost account. and STOP STALKING ME, STALKER; don't try to turn this onto me
This sifu has excellent wing chun physics. Precise, all foward energy, no waste. What is shown here is as he says a demo of basic chisau technique. The footwork is not in play here. The student is not supposed to look great, just help illustrate the point. For those watching WC without training it, much escapes the eye. One concern is when the sifu punches under the bong. If the student dropped his elbow he would have trapped the sifu who btw is much more advanced than what this video shows.
This training is not made to work on foot work. However, this is poor CMA as there is clearly no full body movement. No real power. Pretty bad to be posting this stuff as an instructional.
omg he has no footwork at all. The white guy just let's him trap him up. This is such garbage. And to the untrained eye this might look good. Those who know will see so many bad habits. Guys like this r the reason y this art gets knocked by others so much. Sad...
Wing Chun techniques can be and are absolutely used on the ground and in grappling situations by skilled practitioners. The goal, of course, is to not end up on the ground in the first place because it isn't the style's forte, but someone that truly understands the fundamentals of sensitivity, the centerline, etc. can defend themselves just fine.
When I was training in WC, one of the things I brought to the class was the fact that I had trained in wrestling for years before getting into WC. All of us in the class brought something from previous forms, which made for a nice class to practice with. But I do have to say that it is very difficult to grapple with good WC practitioners. I could take a couple of my classmates down, but it was much more difficult than the average person would expect.
Sports like boxing can have sparring, but martial arts cannot. When Wing chun was created, the world was very different. Today, it is impossible to train under "realist conditions". I think Wing chun is not similar to ju-jitsu. Japanese MA has different philosophies and wing chun doesn't fight in the floor.
not to put u down homeboy but u talk as if you really know how to fight. ur opinion doesnt matter these guys in real life would kill u im sure of that. if you want to put a smart comment against any martial arts video then make sure u are trained urself post a video.
I do wing tsun. i just can say, that this is not good stuff. I have see other video's from this guy. sorry but i dont like it. search for Emin Boztepe or Victor guiteres or B.Wagner...
I do wing chun so I speak for experience when I say what they are doing there IS NOT SPARRING. It is a reflex exercise built to drill the basics (very basics) of wing chun into the mind of a so called 'sparrer'. This is not wing chun in the fighting style, wing chun is very similar to Ju-jitsu in the true fighting style but cannot be practised as easily as quite a lot of the moves lead to very severe bodily harm/death for the victim.
Hey, if you make a sparring video, make sure its against a non-wing chun fighter...that should clear up any doubts. I hate seeing 2 wing chun people from the same school flailing their hands at each other.
Maybe against some grapplers and some distance strikers like Maui Tai or Kickboxing - please not against any TKD guys, as that would just be too easy! :P
You know, I've eaten a lot of hooks while practicing wing chun. I've also countered them. Its all about the practitioner, not about the style. Rather than commenting on what can or can't be done, let the man's action speak for themselves.
I know that this is just a demo, but do you have a video of this style fighting in a sparing environment, or at least with Wing Chun defending against a moving attacker while using other types of strikes? I would like to see more if you have it.
Nice technique. Do you have any actual fighting sparring videos against other styles? Not chi sao or WC vs. WC. I don't like criticizing anyone's technique. I figure if you train hard enough, you can make anything work, and if it fails, you will be the first to know.
Hi, well im going to assume that the instructor on this video is you hgamer. First off, i'd like to say you are good at what you do, and thats all there is to it. But, is there really a reason or a point to make sarcastic comments or to humour the others because they have a different view? i believe they are just trying to help. We gotta remember..that Wing Chun is a family, no matter what line we come from..we all drink different water, but we must remember the source.
Its all in good fun bubishi, and frankly the majority of these posters are arm chair martial artist, who've spent more time watching kung fu movies, and rarely any actual time training or doing any real martial arts.
btw, was on the windycity site, i saw a video of you and master fong playing sticky hands..amazing. you are a fast person alone..then came a point where you couldnt even move your hand..thats a scary thought.
i think it's okay to have your own vision of wing chun, but you should try to discuss rather than making fun of people.... btw .... look at yourself... if someone asks me, you don't train nor do wing chun with that weight.... but you probably watch kung fu movies... pick your words more carefuly.
There are only so may ways the human body can move efficiently and effectively. The higher you get in any style the more similar you see they all become. The good styles anyway. I agree that learning an entire system is an excellent and efficient path to that common truth. However observing other styles and trying to understand how the variations have occurred (esp in Wing Chun since Yip Man) can only lead to benifits in your development. Ignorance causes stagnation.
what fortune cookie did you copy this from... anyway, it sounds cool.. i suggest using the voice of mufassa from the lion king when reading it out loud, then you get the full dramatics
you post so others can learn from it, but you're unwilling to learn from others? you might as well go back to the first movement in the first form because that's where you're mind is at. wouldn't want to exchange ideas now would we.
spoken like a brue lee dork disciple. take something from everyone. well, if you mix a piece from everyone you encounter you'll end up with a huge pile of crap. either you believe in your system or you don't.
Ed, you have shown your true colors, and it ain't pretty. brokenmonkey14 did not say "take something from everyone", he said "you're unwilling to learn from others". You've completely mangled what he said. Your cup is full, and it's full of anger. It's totally uncalled for. Too bad really...... adios.
Thanks for the video. It's better than most. One minor criticism (or positive feedback, if you like). The guy on the left does a low strike at the end. If the guy on the right had "lut sao jik chung" (hand free, spring forward), he would have managed a punch to the face. It's only recently that I've started concentrating on this sort of thing, and now I realise why many people say "dont do low strikes".
actually, that's not true most people don't know how to cover the line to do low attacks. When people see lop sau with a low attack, they forget the lop sau hand is still a controlling hand. I can use the same lop sau hand to use his arm to block any oncoming attacks, or i can even use the same hand to overtake any straight line attacks. i never do an attacks to sacrifice myself for an opening. I'm more then protected when i do a low lop sau
hgamer, If you're training to the lowest common denominator, then keep on going. Your lop sau hand is too low to counter. moogman's comments are right on the mark.
let me make one thing clear regarding videos i post. i post it for those who want to learn from it, don't think this is me seeking to exchange ideas from what i do compared to what others do, coz i don't care what others do. And frankly, i would lop chop you low at will.

People who don't get the shit beaten out of them!
hulkout666 2 years ago
Student have to learn how too close the gab and judge distance with is opponent.Thats the essence of fighting.I think thats where sparring needs to involved. However it seems thats its not in WC philosophy to do that way.For those who think that WC is just theories, you need to know that during Ip Man period, student had to go in the street and get in a fight to test there technics. I think with the post Ip man generation such thing did get passed so you can see this little lack in the system..

This looks very impressive. Are there any videos of Wing Chun being used in non-cooperative, non-rehearsed situations? Do you have any videos of action against opponents who are not doing Wing Chun?
EtonSmegma 2 years ago 6
Nope, but I'm sure if you search around YouTube you'll get your answer. I work part-time as a football steward/security officer so I have seen my fair share of "violence" (Usually drunkards or chavs that hound by the tens and twenties).
Not too sure how I'd do against a trained fighter though. I haven't been doing wing tsun long enough for that.
clementchew 2 years ago
No, but I wish SOMEBODY did...
...it would be funny.

I want to see someone really causing detrimental harm to ones body, using this style. I know it was a simple demonstration. cool

Exactly, If you screw your eyes up a bit ,it looks like flipper fighting with a sea lion. The sound helps too!

you can easily tell this requires reflex... i find the one inch punch harder yet useful because when they're blocking just move ur fist towards them and one inhc punch and knock them bak, but ur reallly good

To all who said they had no footwork, it was obvious that there was not supposed to be footwork in this fight
Para todos los que dijeron que no tenía pies, es evidente que no se supone que de pies a esta lucha

Instead of some of you guys rubbishing videos then why dont you post what you think is wrong and make a video showing what is right? Otherwise shut up!!
wannabeebee 3 years ago
alright little ni993r tell me how to do it then post a video because you seem to talk loads of shit on shotokan karate videos, and then dare people to upload something like you're not a ghost account. and STOP STALKING ME, STALKER; don't try to turn this onto me
mazdaplz 3 years ago
This sifu has excellent wing chun physics. Precise, all foward energy, no waste. What is shown here is as he says a demo of basic chisau technique. The footwork is not in play here. The student is not supposed to look great, just help illustrate the point. For those watching WC without training it, much escapes the eye. One concern is when the sifu punches under the bong. If the student dropped his elbow he would have trapped the sifu who btw is much more advanced than what this video shows.
heartslord 3 years ago
This training is not made to work on foot work. However, this is poor CMA as there is clearly no full body movement. No real power. Pretty bad to be posting this stuff as an instructional.
iancipperly 3 years ago
Im wondering how you saw the video if your blind.
Really, no foot movement? Try focusing on his feet and watch the whole video again.
evilquencher 3 years ago
i agree after watching for a while i did notice how sloppy the white guy was and how easy of a target he was
Easilypleased23 3 years ago
Sifu Shamwank told me the most effective kung fu is ugly to look at.
puppykendo 3 years ago
omg he has no footwork at all.

The goal, of course, is to not end up on the ground in the first place because it isn't the style's forte, but someone that truly understands the fundamentals of sensitivity, the centerline, etc. can defend themselves just fine.
lasombragh 4 years ago 2
When I was training in WC, one of the things I brought to the class was the fact that I had trained in wrestling for years before getting into WC. All of us in the class brought something from previous forms, which made for a nice class to practice with. But I do have to say that it is very difficult to grapple with good WC practitioners. I could take a couple of my classmates down, but it was much more difficult than the average person would expect.
beatusmongous 4 years ago
Sports like boxing can have sparring, but martial arts cannot. When Wing chun was created, the world was very different. Today, it is impossible to train under "realist conditions". I think Wing chun is not similar to ju-jitsu. Japanese MA has different philosophies and wing chun doesn't fight in the floor.
dfence1985 4 years ago
"Sports like boxing can have sparring, but martial arts cannot"
Of course you can spar in martial arts -- you just have to restrict some of the techniques. This does not diminish the value of sparring.
"and wing chun doesn't fight in the floor"
So what does an expert in WC do if the fight ends up on the ground?
marcusorilius 4 years ago
Where are the clips of Wing Chun being used in fights against other martial art styles? Or at least some sparring?
marcusorilius 4 years ago
This sort of 'sparring' only really helps the student if both participants actually try and hit each other.
This is a problem within many Wing Chun lineages the ynever actually learn how to fight under real pressure.
tillerbear 5 years ago
not to put u down homeboy but u talk as if you really know how to fight. ur opinion doesnt matter these guys in real life would kill u im sure of that. if you want to put a smart comment against any martial arts video then make sure u are trained urself post a video.

I do wing tsun. i just can say, that this is not good stuff. I have see other video's from this guy. sorry but i dont like it. search for Emin Boztepe or Victor guiteres or B.Wagner...
justtimber 5 years ago
I do wing chun so I speak for experience when I say what they are doing there IS NOT SPARRING. It is a reflex exercise built to drill the basics (very basics) of wing chun into the mind of a so called 'sparrer'. This is not wing chun in the fighting style, wing chun is very similar to Ju-jitsu in the true fighting style but cannot be practised as easily as quite a lot of the moves lead to very severe bodily harm/death for the victim.

gurojon 5 years ago
Hey, if you make a sparring video, make sure its against a non-wing chun fighter...that should clear up any doubts. I hate seeing 2 wing chun people from the same school flailing their hands at each other.
jlittle1978 5 years ago
Maybe against some grapplers and some distance strikers like Maui Tai or Kickboxing - please not against any TKD guys, as that would just be too easy! :P
marcusorilius 5 years ago
You know, I've eaten a lot of hooks while practicing wing chun. I've also countered them. Its all about the practitioner, not about the style. Rather than commenting on what can or can't be done, let the man's action speak for themselves.
jlittle1978 5 years ago
You know you'd get knocked out by a left hook if someone actually wanted to hit you instead of just flailing their wrists?
AKolchak 5 years ago
I know that this is just a demo, but do you have a video of this style fighting in a sparing environment, or at least with Wing Chun defending against a moving attacker while using other types of strikes? I would like to see more if you have it.
marcusorilius 5 years ago
its in the works..
hgamer 5 years ago
I look forward to this :) Please message me! Thanks
marcusorilius 5 years ago
Nice technique. Do you have any actual fighting sparring videos against other styles? Not chi sao or WC vs. WC. I don't like criticizing anyone's technique. I figure if you train hard enough, you can make anything work, and if it fails, you will be the first to know.
jlittle1978 5 years ago
these are sorta old videos, i do plan on making new ones that show sparring in it.
hgamer 5 years ago
Hi, well im going to assume that the instructor on this video is you hgamer. First off, i'd like to say you are good at what you do, and thats all there is to it. But, is there really a reason or a point to make sarcastic comments or to humour the others because they have a different view? i believe they are just trying to help. We gotta remember..that Wing Chun is a family, no matter what line we come from..we all drink different water, but we must remember the source.
bubishi2 5 years ago
Its all in good fun bubishi, and frankly the majority of these posters are arm chair martial artist, who've spent more time watching kung fu movies, and rarely any actual time training or doing any real martial arts.
hgamer 5 years ago
btw, was on the windycity site, i saw a video of you and master fong playing sticky hands..amazing. you are a fast person alone..then came a point where you couldnt even move your hand..thats a scary thought.
bubishi2 5 years ago
i think it's okay to have your own vision of wing chun, but you should try to discuss rather than making fun of people.... btw .... look at yourself... if someone asks me, you don't train nor do wing chun with that weight.... but you probably watch kung fu movies... pick your words more carefuly.
luisin1984 5 years ago 2
There are only so may ways the human body can move efficiently and effectively. The higher you get in any style the more similar you see they all become. The good styles anyway. I agree that learning an entire system is an excellent and efficient path to that common truth. However observing other styles and trying to understand how the variations have occurred (esp in Wing Chun since Yip Man) can only lead to benifits in your development. Ignorance causes stagnation.
brokenmonkey14 5 years ago
what fortune cookie did you copy this from... anyway, it sounds cool.. i suggest using the voice of mufassa from the lion king when reading it out loud, then you get the full dramatics
hgamer 5 years ago
you post so others can learn from it, but you're unwilling to learn from others? you might as well go back to the first movement in the first form because that's where you're mind is at. wouldn't want to exchange ideas now would we.
brokenmonkey14 5 years ago
spoken like a brue lee dork disciple. take something from everyone. well, if you mix a piece from everyone you encounter you'll end up with a huge pile of crap. either you believe in your system or you don't.
hgamer 5 years ago
Ed, you have shown your true colors, and it ain't pretty. brokenmonkey14 did not say "take something from everyone", he said "you're unwilling to learn from others". You've completely mangled what he said. Your cup is full, and it's full of anger. It's totally uncalled for. Too bad really...... adios.
scoobydo 5 years ago
let me guess, your in love with bruce lee too?
hgamer 5 years ago
Thanks for the video. It's better than most. One minor criticism (or positive feedback, if you like). The guy on the left does a low strike at the end. If the guy on the right had "lut sao jik chung" (hand free, spring forward), he would have managed a punch to the face. It's only recently that I've started concentrating on this sort of thing, and now I realise why many people say "dont do low strikes".
moogman 5 years ago
actually, that's not true most people don't know how to cover the line to do low attacks. I'm more then protected when i do a low lop sau
hgamer 5 years ago
hgamer, If you're training to the lowest common denominator, then keep on going. Your lop sau hand is too low to counter. moogman's comments are right on the mark.
scoobydo 5 years ago
let me make one thing clear regarding videos i post. i post it for those who want to learn from it, don't think this is me seeking to exchange ideas from what i do compared to what others do, coz i don't care what others do. And frankly, i would lop chop you low at will.
