Well first off The YJM is supposed to be used to boost your amps natural distortion..Yngwie doesn't have his amps clean as a base setting they are cranked and the tubes are already distorting..Secondly it is supposed to be crisp without a boost in the mids because if you use tube amps and overdrive the front end when the output section is already distorting it would get muddy and lose definition..Yngwies thing is all about tone..crank a Marshall and use the yjm thats where its at !!!
I stil think it's greatest value is thickening Single coils and then letting a cranked (over 4) tube amp take care of the rest. But there are other cool things you have created with these pedals. Look forward to the builds.
Pat, since you compared the stock YJM308 to one modded with a 1458 and one with the 741 op amp, how do they compare noise-wise to you? There is some confusion if the 741 or the 1458 has more noise, even though they both have the same basic internal circuit with the later being a dual 741 inside.
Funny thing is the best thing about these pedals is when you have them set almost 100% clean and just use them to fatten up the sound ... so why do i have the distortion MAXED ???

@toobmaniac Exactly that's what I was getting at. I think it rules stock if used as envisioned. That's why I play with mostly 5 watt amps.

I have not got to the 741 chip yet
I have some but have ordered some circuit boards to build them
from scratch which may change things

The second pedal sounds like the notes are thin. Your mod makes the notes sound thicker.
