That's not really an "oil pumping thing".  It's a "salt water pumping thing" on a natural gas well, using 480V AC power. The solar panels recharge batteries used for corrosion control, measurment, data storage and transmission. One well in the Gulf would produce roughly what a thousand of these would.

I will agree with those that say Hell no to pumping offshore, but pumping in Anwar? It's a fucking wasteland! Like a desert, except snow-covered. And anyway Caribou are said to love the pipelines cuz it's warmer under 'em. Now if this is actually bullshit then someone point me to some sources.
