Is there any of her music that's done unplugged? Every song of hers I've heard so far is so laden with emulated ring modulators and the like it's hard to tell what she REALLY sounds like.
@japan31 No, it's not just you. I immediately thought of Zola when I came across Florence. Florence's voice can get just as deep as Zola's- just listen to Dog Days. I'm curious what a duet would sound like. I think it would be awesome.
@rcpaskus83 sorry i can't accept what you're sayn i'm not the old git that you think.I'm a music producer in belgium, so i deal every day with 20 years old people who don't find dated my sounds. My job is to see what happening in music right now. Beside i agree that everybody have to be inspired by who was come out before , .New order were inspired by velvet under. but then they did blue monday wich was new . Between dark new wave and z.there's NOT a huge diffrence. Did you heard joy division?
@pontello3 i love new order, velvet underground, and joy division! true she takes her que from them, but shes still very good. and ur right, music has turned to shit for the most part, but there is still very inventive music going on. alot electronic i think. but also bjork, tori amos and the like.
@pontello3 thats true, its hard to find. but thats why i love the internet! lol u definitely cant listen to anything on the radio anymore. its all shit. i love lastfm! its a great site. u can put in the names of bands and musicians u like and it will give u music that sounds like that. also it will give u a recommended radio (things it thinks u will like based on ur taste) it reads ur musical mind! i found so much new stuff that way :)
@redcommando1 dunno, i disagree. it depends on what u put in there, on what u get back. there is still a shitload of new music to be found on last fm, the internet in general.
@pontello3 the unfolding of human culture is an iterative process. every generation builds on prior generation's contributions. just because something is influenced by something else, doesn't strip it of its novelty or worth. in all likelihood, you're just too old to discern the difference between this and its progenitors. there is a huge difference, but it can't speak to you if you don't share lexicons.
i ike what zola do i apreciate the effort to be NOT commercial in a world that becomes more and more commercial and superficial. But i'm 54 so i have to say that this music don't sound new for me cause' i was young when joy division , siouxie etc were around. So this make me think taht must be not easy being young today! cause' you guys are not inventing new styles but mostly you're imitating what "we" did.I'm not blaming you for this! as i said the world is turned into shite ! but zola is ok!
I break into a lot of abandoned buildings in the small hours of the morning. Nothing sums up the terror, the excitement, and the atmosphere of such places as Zola Jesus.
OK, so looking back at Siouxsie and the Banshees I see the similarity in tonal quality and countenance but Nika Roza Danilova is more moving with more depth and more haunting. Excellent.
@ciaranppp I would agree completely, I was actually introduced to the music by seeing it live. That is basically where the motivation to write such a comment came from. I have to laugh that it became and stayed the top comment. Though listening to this song and remembering the live performance, where Nika and I made eye contact on a number of occasions, I can understand why I would have written this, and also I can understand how so many would feel the same way.
...Florence Welch on a Zola Jesus track or Zola Jesus on a Florence and The Machine track...can I have that for my Christmas present 2012?

this is really heartfelt. said she wrote it during a time where she saw everyone around her was experiencing grief and in a lot of pain.

The one lonely soul who disliked this song has since moved on with his life. He released his book called George Bush, Memoirs.

A tour de force. Love the style of vocals, the simple effective lyrics. Deserves to be a hit, hope the radio picks up on it!
