My experience has been that it is a nerve attack that you are feeling and if it is Lymes your central nervous system is under attack. That means that if you were to do some imaging for you knees you would find that there is no structural damage to them. My assumption is that British doctors still are baffled by the illness and have no idea how to treat it - here in Connecticut, where it began, there are a majority who don't know either.
Hi Ruth, I also suffer from intense pain in my knees and have suffered from Lymes disease for several years. One of the things that has helped me significantly is apitherapy, the use of bee venom to give you pain relief and kill bacteria. I have done is several times with varying lengths of success. Look into it because the steroids are contraindicated for Lyme sufferers. The pain you describe in the knees is very similar to way I might express it.
