This game looks and feels like a mash-up of all the Gradius games and its spinoffs. I see pieces of the first Gradius, LIfe Force, and Gradius III just in these two stages! I wonder what the otherstages look like....
In some ways yes, but from what I've seen of it, this is more a recreation of Nemesis for the Game Boy with some serious enhancements. Every stage on this game completely corresponds to what was on there, except they've made serious changes to it.
Hopefully this game comes in the U.S. soon. As soon as I get my hands on the Wii the day after Thanksgiving I'm so ready for this game. What games would you recommend on the Wii (just an idea for me)?
@Annoyboy nice selection my friend but I have to say if you really feel the multiplayer in brawl is unbalanced then you must have not played against pro players in Melee who mastered the wave dash. Youtube it if you haven't cause once you see the difference with the wave dash, I don't believe you will feel the same about Melee.
Annoyboy ... the slowdown is a throwback to the hardware limitations of the consoles of old.
Seems anachronistic but if my memory serves me correctly some SHMUPS actually counted on that slowdown to give the player a bit of an edge to react to an onslaught.
I'm not so sure about that. There are stages later on (the moai one in particular) with a lot more happening on-screen but no slowdown, so it's inconsistent.
On the first level, before the first mountain appears on the screen, there are two force-field generators. One on the ground, the other directly above on the ceiling. You shot both of them, but if you leave the top one alone, the planet doesn't turn white and the volcanoes later on will still be active.
its very good see the return of vic viper, but the 1st level music is a remix of 3rd stage of gradius 2 of nes, also the 2nd stage music is from the last stage of nemesis 2 (MSX) and the laser sound effect is the same than on nemesis, but for me its good see another gradius game, i want to try it NOW
Apparently, Konami commissioned Japanese developer M2 to create Gradius ReBirth. (M2 handles the PS2 SEGA AGES, and emulation of Genesis, Master System and MSX games on Virtual Console.)
I really wouldn't call this a follow up, more like a remix of Gradius 2 MSX, with reused Gradius 2 and 3 voiceclips, and Nemesis 90 Kai and Gradius 2 and 3 sound effects.
Stage 2's boss is the same as the one one the GB port of Nemesis, I just noticed.

If you destroy the white thing instead of the red thing at the beginning, the first level gets a lot of volcanos and a different boss.

shit, it's AWESOME!! i want the game soon

the boss music is the final boss music from gradius 2 on gameboy.

1:41 Metal Gear?!
Nintega 3 years ago
metal gear ??? what do you mean ?
goemon7719 3 years ago
That light on 1:41 looks a lot like the one on the original Metal Gear mech. The mini Metal Gear from Snatcher has the same thing.
Nintega 3 years ago
yeah your right now that i notice it that thing does look like the metal gear mech from the original one

This definitely is a tribute to the MSX games.

This game borrows HEAVILY from past titles.
- Sound effects from the MSX games
- Vic Viper's Gaiden sprite
- Remixes of music from Gradius 2 NES, Salamander 2, and then some
- Graphics seen to be out of Gradius 3 and Nemesis '90
gs68 3 years ago 6
Sound effects and music seem to be directly from Gradius 3 arcade with the few sounds they took from other games.
darknight068 3 years ago
Actually, I recognize one song that's from the MSX version of Salamander.
NightSprinter 3 years ago
Stage 1's music is definitely a remix of Gradius 2 NES's stage 3 volcano section.
darknight068 3 years ago
One of the Bosses in this game is from Salamander MSX actually, the Gun Wall in the Final Stage.

You know your Gradius history bro. You makes us proud :).

Thanks. =)
I got into the series in 2003 through Gradius III SNES version, then found myself playing other titles and doing research on some fan sites.

The only Wii games I have that I intend to keep are:
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Kart Wii
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (and only for the adventure mode, multiplayer is extremely inbalanced, Melee was much better)
Gradius ReBirth
Mega Man 9
Star Soldier R
and whatever Virtual Console games take your fancy.
Annoyboy 3 years ago
@Annoyboy im keeping:
super mario galaxy 1 & 2
prime 3
kart
brawl
new super mario bros. wii (best game imo so much fun multiplayer it's ridiculous both coin battle and story)
zelda
house of the dead overkill
super paper mario.
