@shilpinator cs4. full version.... although i did do a shifty with the installation. downloaded trial and put a file in the folder to make it stop asking for serial number and 30days became forever. So i don't know. No codecs were installed? you didnt use a video converter?
hmm I'm not sure. I don't remember how I installed my After Effects, but obviously I didnt buy it haha. Maybe try torrenting a different one? :S
No video converter lol. BUT if theres no other way for you, and you need to convert your avchd into another format to bring into after effects or whatever, I use a converter called "Free AVCHD Converter" and it works pretty good.
The edited is definetly an improve on the original as it seems smooth, but personally I like more the Original color than the Edited one. Great job anyway! Any chance of uploading a tutorial on how did you make it look that smooth? It would come very helpful for me right now, hehe
@ColombianForLife well the "smoothing" is simply just removing the pulldown. this camera adds 1 extra copied frame every 4(ithink) frames because this camera doesnt actually record in 24fps. it envelopes these 24 frames into 30 frames by adding that 1 extra frame(copied) every 4 frames. by removing pulldown, you remove the copied frame, so it doesnt look laggy
When you chose the 24fps mode in this camera, it actually compresses the 24fps video into 30fps video when it saves it, by duplicating a frame, every 4 frames.
This is called pulldown.
By removing pulldown, you get a smoother motion and 'true' 24fps from this camera.
I did colour correction and colour grading as well
Typically, I use After Effects, so i remove it in that.
I right click on the file, click interpret clip (or similar, cant remember right now) and then click on the button at the bottom of the dialog box to 'find' the pulldown.
Great video! The only thing I would do is increase the contrast a little in the edited clip. But only a little (no more than 5, if even that), just to help reduce the strength of the grain.

Hi. I have both After Effects and Premiere Pro (both CS4). I've never owned a camera that records at 24fps, but I will soon be getting an HG21. So, how do you remove pulldown? (preferably with Premiere Pro)
Well In premiere pro, I'm pretty sure (but cant remember for sure at the moment) that you just drag your clip into a 24 fps timeline and it automatically checks for it and removes the pulldown.
I need help...please...to all those people that have a videocamera Canon HG 21.Can you tell me if Italian is among the languages you can chose from in the multilanguages menu? Thanks...it's very important.
thank you so much...do you even know if it's possible to record in PAL system...or if there are any problems in transfering files on an Italian computer? Cuz if not I'll just get one there in the US when I come for the holydays. Thanks again for the attention
I don't use that program, but I think that yes it does have that. Because according to their website, it says that it can convert and handle 24p video as well. :)
Nice job on the After Effects part! I could learn a thing or two from you! I'm not that good with After Effects to be honest. I'm trying to get the hang of Apple's Motion now, since it came along with the Final Cut Studio package (I use Final Cut Pro as my editing program).
The sound is killer - but does it have anything common with this camera??
Hobott 5 months ago
@Hobott Well the music is from Kevin Macleod/Incompetech. The rest of the audio is from the cameras onboard mic

@XJayStudiosX Hey, what version of After Effects are you using? I have CS4 and it works flawlessly with it. CS5 will also work obviously.
I'm not so sure about previous versions of After Effects however.

by removing 'pulldown'

hey question, i have premiere pro as well, how did you move the files from the camera to the computer?
BottlefaceMovies 2 years ago
if you have a canon camera, it comes with a software that will copy the files to your computer and name them according to date and time.
otherwise, you can just ctrl-c / ctrl-v the files from the camera
shilpinator 2 years ago
It looks really clean. I def. like the film look. You have a much better camera than i do. lol.
smeatontv 2 years ago 2
thanks! lmao.
and, to be honest, there are so many cameras way better than mine, lmao!

CheapHomeFilms 2 years ago
Haha, thanks.
I actually tried to give it more of a low contrast look, becuase real film has a higher dynamic range which equates to lower contrast (digital-wise).
Also, I tried to ADD some 'film grain' to this clip, so maybe thats what you're talking about?
But thanks for the suggestions :)

In terms of the files, im not sure lol. sry bout that :)

@punxuntilwedie nope. Vegas Pro 9 does not handle pulldown removal with hv20's or hv30's.
Jashan17 2 years ago
how about with HG20?
punxuntilwedie 2 years ago
pretty sure you would still need 3rd party software to remove pulldown with an hg20. just google it.
Jashan17 2 years ago
It would be the same with an HG20. The only differences between the HG20 and the HG21 are the viewfinder and the size of the hard disk drive.

and the super-awesome totally cool '1' that comes at the end of 'Hg2' ;)

lol, i'd rather re-encode the file as least times as i can :)
