I have to make an analysis of a 20th century music piece and i will make it of this piece. Some help? i mean, some curious features of this? Thank you!
I don't understand why people like this version? The passage starting on the second page is completely anemic (he neglects some very important accents that give it an Eastern European feel) and the his musicality throughout the piece leaves much to be desired. He plays the ballad like an etude.
When I first heard this- I thought Ysaye was playing it himself. You know It's a great interpretation when someone makes you feel like they created it themselves.
Ylya Kaler, russian violin virtuoso had already recorded some Paganini's works like the 24 Capricci,Op.1, Violin Concertos nos.1 & 2...here playing Eugène Ysaye,to whom Nathan Milstein said "tzar of the violine"...wonderful "Ballade"...Bravo !
Kaler's Ysaye is astonishing--Ysaye has long been a favorite composer of mine but hearing Kaler play him has added a whole new dimension to his work. For me it's my favorite Ysaye interpretation--the entire CD is a jewel!
Ilya Kaler is nothing short of amazing, and definitely one of the greatest violinists of our time. If you like this, I suggest you listen to his Brahms. He brings a musicality to it that I think is truly unparalleled.
there is no sickness that Eugene didnt possesed :D

amazing. I actually prefer the maxim´s version, but this sounds more like a ballade.

If people are interested, I made a recording of the Ballade myself too. Tell me what you think of my playing. Thanks a lot!

J'aime mieux la performance de Vengerov elle est jouée plus virtuosement mais ca ne ressemble plus à une ballade par contre!

This piece has quarter tones, in this excellent version are in the passage starting at about 4:00.
Laudesi82 2 years ago 5
No, there from the beginning it's started
takhirviolinest 2 years ago
does it? i play the piece and there aren't any..its just very chromatic. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I have the score. In that passage appear some X with a point over or under. These signs are quarter tone accidentals.

@Laudesi82 totally mind blowing eh!?

@Laudesi82 The urtext indicates half-steps at most. No quarter tones.
