  • Man,I remember John Hope forecast the weather especially during hurricanes back in the late 90's on TWC clear as day. He was a good weather man! R.I.P John Hope, we thank you for the memories you gave us.

  • Thank John the weather fans all miss you.

Now the only truly qualified OCM is Dr. Forbes.

I wish they'd fire Jim Cantore, he's a freakin publicity hound.

  • John Thanks a lot for your hard work.

  • thats very sad :(

  • absolutely chris

  • Sad sad sad

  • I am sad of john hope died

  • Mr Hope was the real deal. When he said it was time to get out, you got out. Not all this media hype and sensationalism you get with this new NBC Weather Channel we have now. I miss his professionalism.

  • @Bvest1 I can't believe NBCUniversal bought The Weather Channel (everyone knows MSNBC is nothing but propoganda).

  • i will allways miss that man.

  • Imagine he lived to cover Hurricane Katrina!

  • I still miss him and always will.

  • RIP :(

  • Used to love this Johns passion on TWC when is was good. Thanks for the memories !

  • Has he really been gone nine years? Boy has time flown by. Of course, TWC is likely the most important 'cable' channel (with the possible exception of CNN) of all. And John Hope was at the center of it...

  • Jim Cantore has hair!!

  • I loved that man and Jim Cantore

  • John Hope was a great weatherman. I really liked is style of reporting hurricanes. And I also remembered some of the "Weather Extras" he did on history and the weather. He will truly be missed.

  • he watches over us every hurricane season. hopefully, he didn't suffer.

  • R.I.P John Hope

  • He was the real eye of the storm > Jonh Hope > R I P

  • Great guy the day he died I flies on Twc and yup breaking news on Mr. Hope.

  • John Hope is dead?!?! I always figured I missed him for the past eight years during the very few times I tuned into the Weather Channel (I was obsessed with weather in early high school, but then dropped off watching any TV during and after college). I know it sounds profoundly stupid, but I hadn't realized his death until now! He was a great presence on the Weather Channel. Taught me a lot about hurricanes. RIP John Hope...

  • He was such an amazing and very knowledgeable weather man.

  • Tracking hurricanes hasn't been the same since the death of John. I don't think the guy got a wink of sleep when a hurricane was in the Gulf or on the eastern seaboard threating land fall. Turn on the weather channel 3 in the afternoon he was on! Turn on the channel again at 3 in the morning, he was on tracking the storm! Safety was his major concern. Miss ya John!!

  • omg i didn't even know he passed away :( i thought he retired. he was a great addition to the weather channel R.I.P john hope

  • I cried when I watched this. John Hope was the best.

  • @talladegajunkie1439 I cried too :(

  • The Weather channel is not the same anymore....

  • RIP John Hope 1919-2002 :""(

  • RIP jhon hope you will be missed 1919-2002

  • Guys, i love John Hope as much as you do but, does anyone remember when they were talking about i think the weather channel's past year and they were talking about all the pregnant forcasters and they joking blamed it on John Hope? that was the funniest thing ever

  • @AtariSilver I totally remember that!!!! That was on E network I believe..

  • John Hope will surely be missed. I started watching The Weather Channel in February of 1992 and I had seen Jphn Hope. John Hope was one of the best people I had known from The Weather Channel. thank you John Hope.

  • I didnt start watching the Weather Channel until late 2001, As a result, I didnt really get to know much about John Hope. I only slightly remember his coverage of hurricanes erin and michelle. And from what Ive seen throughout the web, John Hope has meant so much to TWC and hurricane forecasting. May you rest in peace John );

  • As many times as I seen TWC, I did not realize they had a true legend until now. I am shocked! You'll be missed, John Hope. ^_^

    [P0RTAL 0F RAIN]

  • One of the BEST on TWC RIP John. We LOVE you up on LONG ISLAND, NY

  • I had his son for my teacher in fourth grade. I can see where his greatness came from

  • I remembered watching John Hope on TWC back in the '90s.

  • The weather channel has lost a lot of its best qualities since John died. They need someone like him to run things when hurricanes are around- no hype BS, no competing with cable- just getting the facts to people to keep them safe.

  • Probably the greatest and most respected forecaster that ever lived.

  • He got his daughter's Name used in 1969 Hurricane Camille He Couldn't Know that Camille will be of the most Infamous Names in Hurricane History

  • It's still hard to watch this without crying.

  • He said complications following Heart Surgery

  • He died when I was 4!

    R.I.P John Hope

  • same here

  • : \

I remember seeing him back in the day. The man knew his stuff.

  • I still miss John Hope. He was a legend. The Weather Channel will never be the same without him.

  • John Hope's tropical updates were the best! The expert

  • agreed!

  • Nobody may like what I am going to say, but this is something that will happen to all of us one day.

  • @ILovestorms when my day comes, i will see John Hope and thank him for being the great hurricane expert he was. I started watching the weather channel as a young boy probably around 1981 or 1982 and he made weather interesting. RIP Mr. John Hope

  • i miss john so much.

poor jim, you can see the tears in his eyes..

  • I still miss him. Thanks so much for posting this. He was a fun part of 80's culture and early cable. All best. Penny

  • John Hope was the greatest hurricane forecaster ever...I watched the weather channel as a kid just for the tropical update to learn science and weather from a master...

    American Hero...RIP John Hope

  • seriously?

  • How dare you. Before Jim Cantore, John Hope was the face of The Weather Channel. He helped to launch what has become an American institution. Alas, since Hope passed away and the formula "media sensationalism=better bottom line" became the new philosophy in American media, that institution has been degraded somewhat.

  • Dang, they were so good back then, so accurate and right! Now they got these John Hope wannabe's. Shame he had to die, Steve Lyons is alright, but no John Hope.

  • dont worry twc team you guys got steve lyons

  • i miss u john this is sooo sad

  • A first year Hall of Famer!

I use to watch you all the time and The Weather Channel has never been the same since you left us.

  • He was a GREAT GREAT GREAT guy!

  • John Hope was great - he was the OG of TWC.

  • this is sad i still miss him =(

  • GREAT GREAT OCM. Too bad The Weather Channel has turned into pure shit now. Global Warming B.S. around the clock and now tied in with MSNBC/NBC/G.E. ugh...AL Roker doing forecasts and live shots...forget it.

  • Bye Mr Hope i still miss you

I Rember Watching this and Crying

  • How fitting was it that Jim Cantore got to read his eulogy. They couldn't have picked a better man for the job.

  • Amen.

  • He's been dead for 6 years now.

  • damn just learned about this I had a feeling he passed since I haven't seen him on twc in so long. RIP

  • Also the first I've heard of it. Wonder why I didn't notice - he was certainly a favorite.

  • How sad. I remember growing up watching him on TV (from Opal to Floyd to Michelle). I was 12 when he died. He was really amazing.

  • does anyone know the last hurricane he covered?

  • Well, he died right around the beginning of the 2002 season, so I would assume Olga in 2001.

  • We certainly miss him. He was great at his job and straight to the point.

  • I remember watching John Hope on tv; hes the reason I follow Hurricane Season so close now; I miss his personality during Hurricane Season. RIP John

  • i remember watching him on tv RIP

  • He was a good man.

    RIP John.

  • I could just cry. :( :(

  • We all will miss him so...

  • One of the true great pioneers in weather forecasting, One I grew up on and will always remember in the back of my mind during hurricane season

  • What about his USO tours?

  • I think you are thinking of BOB Hope, not John Hope.

  • @markuslordus75 What an Idiot! Lmao!

  • I thought it was cool we got to see Jill Brown for a couple of seconds. She was babe-a-licous.

  • i saw that when i was 19. the time i met him when i was 12. i cried when he died. he said"i bet when you grow up jake, youl'l be just like me... but i might not be around.

  • He was really awesome. He really was.

  • Agree with ya... he can't hold a candle to John Hope.

  • John Hope is sorely missed. He was the true Hurricane Expert. I remember him doing Andrew and lots of other hurricanes.

I also believe that I saw this on the TWC when it originally aired.

  • He died on June 13 2002

  • I'll miss him, turly a wonderful person, I regret I never met him in person.

  • xreddragonx, if you don't have something good to say, DON'T SAY IT AT ALL!!!

  • I don't think I've seen this before... I last saw him on TV during Hurricane Keith.

  • He is one of the big reasons I became a Meteorologist.

  • The Weather Channel's Hurricane coverage hasn't been the same since :(

  • He has been dead for five years..

  • Time sure flies doesn't it, im only 13 & it seems like 2004 was just a few months ago.

  • Wow, I didn't realize he passed. RIP, Mr. Hope.

  • he died when i was 12

  • he died when I was 7.

We will all miss him on there.

  • I was 9 when he died. Rip!

  • he died when i was 7 sad sad

  • he died when i was 7

I remember seeing that on the very first time I watched TWC that that had happened.

  • RIP John Hope you will be truly missed!. TWC is not nor ever will be the same without you. I wonder what He would of taught of Hurricane Katrina and Rita.

I kinda looked up to this guy.

  • RIP buddy. You will be missed.

  • beautiful tribute RIP John. You are a weather legend!

  • He died the day before the 4th of July, 2002.
