To anyone else who finds youtube advertisements annoying, please join me in boycotting the products and companies of these ads. And if you are so inclined, post a comment like this one underneath any videos that start with adverts.

Another problem at least for me, is that I can't watch most of the vids that have ads preceding them because the ad starts before the page finishes loading, then the ad freezes and of course, no video either. Come on Youtube. Why after 5 years start doing this anyway?

Given the choice to watch? Before I can even begin watching a video, I have to wait thirty seconds and I can't skip it. They took the ad skipping button OFF. Did they get MY permission to place ads on MY videos? No! I should be paid to place ads on my videos, that I have rightfully created.

As consumers, we often see YouTube only as a video-sharing site for mass entertainment. We forget this site is first and foremost a business. Like all businesses, it provides a service and must earn revenue in order to thrive. YouTube happens to be a business that also serves as a medium through which to provide advertising space. Media buyers look to more untraditional venues to display their ads. Money exchanges hands and banner ads appear on the top or side the pages to our favorite videos

This video is imformative in the schema it provides us, it allows us to better understnad YouTube's structure. I'd love to hear what you all feel about these ads, this structure, this steady encroachment of capital into a "democratic space" that is not equally available to all.

More than anything, it seems as though Youtube is the most recent entity to take advantage of the popularity=money aspect that we all know corporations use. This has managed to turn youtube viewing into having your experience surrounded by ads with an ad within the video. Could youtube make money any other way? Probably not, after all its the nature of the beast.

This class has accomplished the incredible feats of reaching a million views, getting Juhasz to learn the Soulja Boy dance, gain the attention of corperate YouTube, bring GoRemy and Prettythingsss, conduct entire research projects from within the site, and gain attention from the press.

Over the course of this class we have learned the ins and outs of this media outlet like no other, critically analyzing the site probably even better than some of the employees of YouTube itself. We have truly taken this medium of media and pushed it the point of creating a functional academic space, which in all honesty I never thought possible.

This is proof that there are many things to learn on YT about the media, corporations and their interactions with their audiences.I wanted to learn about the role YT plays in the world of new media in terms of how it is used and the effects of its use. We have accomplished this in our class.We know all there is to know about how this site works, and we will just have to wait for it to exist longer to further theorize its effects on media and society.
