its the new type of energy resource they foundd after other ones were scarce. i don't know what caused imulsion.

it may have something to do with it but remember the factory in gears 1 and the exploding wretches the locust had come in connect with the impulsion and got rustling or something thus making them go crazy and attack their own humans owned that factory

no regular locust vs the glowing exploding ones thats why they are attacking the humans because the locus themselves are under attack and its the humans fault because they brought the impulsion to the locust in the first first place so both sides are possibly facing extinction and desperation
