  • Great video gunnheil. Can you post up some more like this?

  • very nice video

  • Nice Vid!

  • Why can't you drag the fish on land? Sry ima beginner

  • @05tech because you remove scales and a special slime that protects them against bacteria.

  • @05tech Damages it's mucus layer and leaves the fish very susceptible to infection and disease.

  • What type of camera did you use? Great quality.

  • I love this vidio :D

  • great video.do you ever use worm?

  • Wonderful video!! The best!

  • Thank you

  • nice video!!

  • I live in washington state USA We have chinook, coho, chum, sockeye, pink, and occasional Atlantic salmon. Over here the Chinook average weight is 20-25, lbs with occasional 40 lbs being taken. FlyFishing for chums is very fun. Intense power in the river. You Iceland folk would love it, And the Steelheading is amazing

  • nice. we have some atlantic salmon here. that escaped yerars ago. they might all be dead by now. i dont know. they look pretty fun

  • This is the Atlantic salmon or Salmo Salar in Latin. This is the only salmon species we have here in Iceland. Only one river in Iceland stocks steelhead and this is not the one. The Atlantic salmon always puts up a great fight no matter how small it is. This summer I hooked a fish well over 10 kilos but after five minutes he sent the fly back to me with the hooks all bent up.

  • what kind of salmon was that? It looks like a steelhead out of water. They look fun,

  • No idea! Sorry!

  • I would like to save this film to my iphone so that I can watch offline.

Any idea how I can do this?

  • @ardrankin: there's a little program called Downadhelper. You can install it in you toolbar and then easily download all kind of films by just klicking the little icon. I use it for years now. Greetz, OQ

  • What film is this taken from ... and where can I get a copy? Fabulous film.

  • In Soviet Russia, Fish catches you.

  • Nice video very informative !

  • @horizanadventures thanks very much.

  • Brits want everything in Iceland, huh?

  • good job dragging the fish on the gravel and rocks.

  • probably never. I just did a series about a fishing competition btw me and my twin brother but the production quality was not like you can see here. The DVD from the series is coming out in the fall. But thanks for the positive comment.

  • so gunnihel, when is more fantastic bbc-style material to come?

  • Thank you for that piece of info. the rod is a single handed 7. It´s perfect for grilse and bigger trout, especially sea trout. For bigger salmon it is better to have a double handed rod.

  • I have been a flyfisher for years..i can tell you....fish dont feel pain, ! say what you like, i know the facts, ok, so i would not have landed a fish in this fashion, but it would still be fine if released , in any case he probably kept it, there are two catches on this vid as far as i can see, looks like a trout rod ? nice footage

  • what type and weight rod?

  • @OMGitsme3335 . Oh, My God, the rod is Loop Grey Line and the line is Loop shooting head floating lIne. Everything number 7

  • @gunnihel thx

  • good video its nice to see the way things work under water

  • zymbotictoot you just got owned, and sweet video.

  • yeah i thought fly fishermen were gentlemen too,and you are certainly not 1 trying to make yourself sound cool by saying my father drank blah blah blah pretty bad when your narrator agrees with me and yes there is nothing like a wild salmon but a see no need in blinding a fish and then releasing him if you do that my as well keep em all ,fuck it eh!

  • i sure hope you kept the fish after blinding them by dragging them across the rocks asshole!

  • Dear zymbotictoot. I always pictured fly-fishers as beeing gentlemen. But obviously I was wrong. You are not a gentleman. I suggest you find another channel for your anger my friend. And remember. It wasn´t your fault your father drank! You were just a child! And for your information...there is nothing like a fresh wild salmon. And we can actually afford to keep them here in Iceland.

  • nice fishing man.great vidieo

  • Now this is what I have been looking for on the web for the longest time. This is the best footage on the web I have ever seen!

  • why the fuck is he taking som much time, can some1 enlight me, he got the fish, just pull it quickly.

  • I can answer you if you could tell me first what is the time you allow for a landing? Are there any rules? About 5 minutes? or...what the fuck...???

  • rule of thumb, 5 to 15 minutes to land fish depending. the more the salmon spends fighting the less chances of a successfull release.

  • Great fishing clip! To all the people who complained about the salmon being beached, get over it! The salmon will be fine. They bang and crash against stones and rocks as they swim up the river. The most important thing is to get the hook out and get them back in the water quickly... which he did. Nice underwater shots. Good on you!

  • thank you very much sir.

  • Aside from the horrible landing, that was a fantastic piece of work. Don't think I've seen anything like it. Thank you.

  • that dude is gonna kill the salmon

by dragging them on land like

that. I doubt he doesnt know what hes doin

  • Should have gone to spec savers LAND ??????????

  • Hello mxian1.

How does one respond to a thing like this? Are you mad? Or just joking?

  • the carmera man was a an aqerium because at 4.21 you can see dry land .

  • lol are you kidding? mxian1??

    or are you frikin crazy?

  • are you kidding theres no land!!!!!!!

  • Wonderful!

  • HI . No we didn´t search with the camera. we just went up and down the river - very carefully - and used our eyes...and polaroid glasses. we thought there might be a couple of fish in the pool! we didn´t see all of them until the camera was in the water.

  • Absolutely amazing footage ,just shows how the fish react when one of the group of fish is hooked and the others dont even look as though anything different is happening

Question though how did you guys know the fish were there ,did you search the water first with the camera??

thank you for a brilliant peace of work

  • we get this close with a 12 feet pole and a small lense on the end but the camera recorder on the other end. everything is on a tripod where the screen and the controls for everything are. you can buy one for 20.000 pounds! The water has to be relatively clear though.

  • so I this guess clip is part of a documentary? About salmon fishing? Where can I see it?

  • hi oku66. we used a special camera that is not very disturbing to the salmon. It´s called Pole Cam. But it took us a month to learn how to approach the salmon with the camera.

  • ok now u made me nosy ;-) how did u get so close to them - especially with a moving frame? Cause I go to norway in July and I would love to take at least kind of underwater pictures of a salmon played and landed. Greetz, Jan

  • hey gunnihel

really good to see and learn. What kind of Cam or cam case did u use? OQ

  • thank you very much.

  • the best underwater footage of salmon fishing i've ever seen.

  • Great video. Where is it from? Is it part of a nature documentary? I had luck with one of the sisters in Scotland - unfortunately the artificial kind (i don't mean a blow up doll :)) - interested to see that if you get a 'nibble' but not a strong take to go for something a different colour. Anyway, they are wonderful creatures. Tight lines.

  • Nice video! Let's get a group together to go to Mongolia for Taimen! -trouttrek-

  • great underwater footage, but rubbish beaching technique - if you stay so far up the bank from the fish you will loose many fish - I learnt the hard way.

  • Yeap, I´ve learnt a lot these past years in this one of those. Didn´t loose one salmon last summer but cought around 50. Thanks.

  • Thanks. My aim is to go to Mongolia to do similar stuff. Just need some sponsors. Any volunteers?

já þetta er Gunni H og þetta er úr myndinni Svona tekur laxinn.

  • Ég ger i ráð fyrir að þú sért Gunnar Helgason ef ekki bendi ég á höfundaréttinn. Efnið er að ég held úr "Svona tekur laxinn." En alveg frábært efni.

  • Cool video... 5 star. 8)
