Don't ruin your merlin post as shown in this video. Just remove it then use a 1/2 inch threaded rod from a hardware store with some nuts threaded on it. the nuts will stop the threaded rod from falling out of the arm.
@JifferRiffic It took me around 15 minutes. Nothing happens when you beat it too lightly. Probably you need to used more force. I guess the rod is made of some aluminum alloy, which is not very malleable and beating it to hard may initiate a crack. So I placed mine on a carpet and beat it with a hammer. The rod tends to spring back with every blow, so be very careful. Good luck, and don't get hurt or break anything.
@JifferRiffic great question. I dont think supportren really got the joke. I was wondering if you have tried putting yours on a carpet and beating it with a hammer as suggested?
@firepuf I had Glidecam long before Merlin came in the market. These rigs are pricy, so I just bought the vest and arm. As you are starting afresh, this is my scientific advice. I love science :-)
The point was that Mangling the post still does not allow it to fit. The diameter is too thin, and the length is way too small. It's not even remotely close to being used for the Glidecam.
If anyone is reading this, I would highly suggest you look at option 'B' with a 1/2 threaded rod before trying your video in which you're calling option 'A'. For 2 dollars, you can pick up all the necessary hardware to make the 'proper fitting' adapter.
One programmer charged $5000 for fixing a bug and added a semicolon to fix it. The manager said you have added only a semicolon. The Programmer said yes, I am billing 5 cent for my typing effort and $4999.95 for knowing where to put that semicolon
Wow, totally mangled the orginal post for use with the original Steadicam Merlin.
The better way is to just use a 1/2 Threaded rod. Check out Vimeo for "Glidecam + Merlin Vest" to how its really done right without damaging the original parts.
Mangling the post never bothered me as I bought Steadicam arm only to support Glidecam and my goal was to modified the Merlin post to fit Glidecam. Moreover, who can see the marring once you fit the Glidecam handle over it? Lastly, I do not baby my camera and accessories; they are just a set of tool for taking good photo and video. I absolutely do not mind if they become well beaten with use.

I've been using the Cam Caddie Scorpion with great success. It's very simple and effective.

when you beat, is good to put someting soft or cover with something the way you don't have that, or you will have smal things only, good luck.

Steadicam post is way much more smaller than the glidecam. Are you sure it can easily "fit' just simple like that?

instead of beating the rod, y not just buy a few lug nuts and a metal pipe and slip it in instead

Between Opteka X-GRIP and Manfrotto 585 ModoSteady? which do you recommend for short films?

I would like to know when you would use a merlin vest with a glidecam? Is there an advantage? Thanks.

Buy Merlin if you
* shoot handheld stabilized shots a lot
* need folding rig
* do not attach any other gadgets to your rig
* want to pay premium price
Buy Steadicam if you
* have strong arm to carry the cantilever weight
* need other gadgets to be attached
* want to save considerable money
