  • i agree mr.whittle it's only that some of our founding fathers weren't as virtues as you are protraying, i still think they were far beyond our smarts and ingenuity of today and i am certinly not speaking of all the founding father and in no way do i mean to demean their honarable actions it's just that owning slaves and having mistresses in my book isn't very virtuous.

  • referencing Newt Gingrich on virtue and character is like referencing Obama on the constitution.

  • @Chriznak not at all. even if newt failed to be virtous it doesnt meant what he said was wrong.

  • Your work just keeps getting better and better. Well done!!

  • When asked why his followers were so well mannered, law-abiding and virtuous, Joseph Smith replied, "I teach them correct principles, and then I let them govern themselves."

  • @cosmasindico Right. That's why Smith took the child Fanny Alger to bed over his wife's objections (duh), took Sarah Whitney to wife (conspiring to hide this from his wife), and so forth and so on and on and on. And destroyed a newspaper publisher in tyrannical fashion, which got him killed by a mob. And came up with new "revelations" whenever he wanted to control his gullible followers or their property.

  • @rasqual78 I am sure that if had quoted Gandhi you would mention his fetish for enemas, or his entourage of underage girls, merely as a service to inform your fellow commenters, or that should a commenter offer a quote by Martin Luther in support of Whittle's positions that you would assiduously inform them of his atrocious anti-semitism and misogyny, again, not out of spite, but just a desire to inform. So I give you the benefit of the doubt and trust you are not a bigot, but merely an ass.

  • @cosmasindico You mean that racist, treasure hunting Joe Smith that scammed people out of their money using the occult, whose followers were so unruly and insulting they were kicked out of every state the went, and they eventually ended up massacring people who would travel across Utah? Yeah, some solid principles being taught there. Everyone should look up the "Mountain Meadows Massacre"

  • Virtue and Character are words to Newt.

  • Character matters, and Newt is utterly bereft of character. Listening to that asshole lecture anyone on morality is like listening to Michael Moore on dieting.

  • Oddly, as a Jew I can safely say that in a mannor of speaking he is right. We have far more moral and religious obligations. However the rest of the world simply has to follow 7 simple Nohide laws, Everything else is up to you.

  • To Bill Whittle: I think I saw a discussion between you and Andrew Klavan where he invoked CS Lewis' "The Abolition of Man." He was right to bring it up, and passages from the very first chapter bear on this video. Lewis says that the ruinous banner of subjective values has cut out the natural mechanisms in humans which might bring about honor, discipline, and other virtues, yet we still wax nostalgic about the lack of those virtues in society. We cut out the organ, and demand the function.

  • Response to run123runner: Baloney. I've managed to lead a good life quite well without the supernatural ... officer in the U.S. Navy, husband & father. Man left to religion will fly airplanes into skyscrapers.

  • @uberapostate Well you definitely use values borrowed from religion. Men who use some arbitrary "internal" compass w/o the influence have been the largest mass murderers in history. So no you don't " need God" to "act morally" (whatever that means)- but you do need God for morality to make sense.

  • I'm 98% in agreement with Bill here. Where I disagree is his intimation that we need the influence of religion to be virtuous. This is nonsense. I don't need god to be good, virtuous or disciplined. The drive for virtuous conduct comes from within and was nurtured in me by parents who had no belief in the supernatural.

  • @uberapostate

Where does one's moral guiding compass come from do we make that up on our own? Man left to his own devices will not be virtuous.

  • Christianity made to many romans pacsifists allowing the empire to become weak and collapse on its self.

  • I absolutely agree with this video!

My only problem is that Newt's quote was taken out of context. In the debate, they were talking about whether or not the government should enforce morality through law, and Newt seemed to be making to argument that liberty still allows for government to outlaw any immoral behavior, which to me is contemptible. Ron Paul has been making the case presented in this video all along: freedom means taking responsibility, and if you don't, society won't bail you out.

  • This is an amazingly good video. It's a pleasure for an older man to watch you Bill.

I've mailed the link to a number of friends and acquaintancies.

  • Yeah, Newt Gingrich has such great character and virtue that he cheated on his wife while she was dying of cancer. What a great example for the rest of us

  • @yeebuddeh1 She wasn't dying of cancer -- in fact she's still alive.

  • @yeebuddeh1 That story is a complete fabrication. Newt's daughter recently wrote an editorial debunking that myth. The were on the road to divorce long before she went into the hospital, and she is still alive.

  • Comment removed

  • @yeebuddeh1 @yeebuddeh1 You're mistaking Newt for John Edwards.

  • It all comes down to people taking RESPONSIBILITY for their own actions. We've become a nation of enablers and then turn to government as a sort of AA.

  • As I have told my children many times, discipline yourself, and I won't have to.

  • There isn't actually a significant difference between the Islamic and Jewish systems of law. Christianity differs in its perspective of the law but not in the necessity of law. All religions have codes of law and Islam is no different from Judaism or other faiths in this respect. What Islam needs is simply a reformation and rejection of the extremist varieties (such as Wahhabism and Iranian shiite extremism).

  • If you think this is about advocating one presidential candidate over another, I'd say you're missing the point. For that matter, hence, our present condition that Whittle masterfully points to. We would be well served to replace conversations about people with ones of ideas and principles. I thought Whittle featured Newt as a jumping off point, a topical event (or statement) used as a reference to make his point.

  • Bill states that you "can have an internal Judge without God, it's just a damn site harder to find". We need to assert our sovereignty, rights and our moral codes on Earth-based facts not mystical-beliefs if they are to have unimpeachable authority. There is such a philosophy, distilled from the greatest thinkers of Western Civilization, it is the Objectivist philosophy. If there is any hope for the human race to break out of our suicidal ways, Objectivism is it.

  • @SmokemNow LOL

  • It’s much to do with what Scriptures warns us about, ungodliness. 1st Tim 3:2, Roms 1:29-32, 2nd Pet 3: 3-7, Prov 6: 6-11. Rather than reading & living out the Good Book, these adults kids have acclimated themselves to the way of the ‘The Anarchist Cookbook.’ The bad parents are the ones not telling their stingy adult kids that their wrong and to grow up, work hard, quit receiving any form of assistance (aka welfare)

  • Has Newt Gingrich the type of Character that We want for a President?

Someone please correct me if I have the facts wrong.

Did Newt Gingrich, whilst Speaker of the House, attack Bill Clinton viciously for Clinton’s perceived crime of Infidelity and lying when he himself was doing exactly the same thing - Having an affair and lying about it?

  • Man, you have got to love the cognitive dissonance of some conservatives. Claim to not want to let gay people marry one another because it will destroy the "sanctity" of marriage, then hold up a man who had an affair with two separate wives, divorced them both, and is now on his third wife.

  • @PeachesNPlumz If conservatives could lose the christian thing they would win every election.

  • @zakunster1 Yeah because Christianity is such a bummer... right? Whatever forbid that people actually behave themselves I hate to break it to you but this country is falling apart due to a lack of God rather than the presence of God. If you cant look at America and see the deterioration of God in our society and the parallel deterioration of society than you are lost

  • @SWEP2AOTC2002 You would have apoint if the magic fairy you believe in was true.

  • one of bill's best yet!

  • ... Wow Bill, just Wow... That internal judge thing really gets people thinking. I love the concept, as always the way you convey yourself is just magnificent.

  • So if Newt Doesn't like my character he doesn't want me to be allowed to learn? Or is he saying he wants the right to force children to learn the values HE approves of rather than those of their parents.

  • Newt would be the LAST person i would accept advice on virtue. how many divorces has he had? And George Washington did not allow blacks to fight in the revolution! whereas Ron Paul married his high school girlfriend and has remained faithful, never did drugs, obeys the constitution and has his office return all of its un-used funds at the end of the year! A TRUE man of virtue!

  • "When a land transgresses, it has many rulers, but with a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability will long continue."

    Proverbs 28:2

  • There is no work to do, inevitably in time

the OWS generation will take over and destroy this country.

  • Freedom isn’t free. It has to be fought for & protected.

  • Gingrich is literally the epitome of virtue and character...

  • @TechMeched Gingrich is NOT a man of virtue OR character, Neither is he a Conservative,

    /watch?v=jWPz1Qdq1uI

  • @HaroldRehling I know :) sarcasm

  • @TechMeched Newt has already proven that he is the antithesis of character and virtue. Neither was displayed while he walked out on his responsibilites, his sick wife and his manhood. I'll hold on to mine and resist the temptation to jump on the Newt train simply because it appears that he may beat Obama, If Newt wins Conservatism loses!

  • OWS is the second notice.

    WS was the first notice.

  • Awesome, Bill. That was spot on!

  • Your video's are not reaching your subscribers. Maybe 1 out of 5 PJTV video's show up on my subscription page.

  • Disciple, virtue, character. Words lost to the current political vernacular. And sadly, the social strata as well.

We are all poorer because of that.

  • @Siegetower AMEN~!
