  • Nice! Got a 455 from a 72

Olds in my 49 Willys. ;-)

  • What kind of transmission is that??

  • seen this olds front wheel drive set up in the back of a pickup truck

  • right engine, wrong car. anyway, great work.

  • well done

  • why couldnt my mom buy me a gocart like THIS when i was small??

  • God dam u need a 5point cage and buckets in tht beast

  • @kodye414 Will have bucket seats w/5point belts. Roof reinforced with midsection firewall,

  • No wonder ur smiling please send more vids of it !!!

  • i would like to see this car when its finished

  • So would I !!

  • and how do you put the small body on that?

  • Same wheelbase as VW, 3" wider front fenders, 6' wider rear fenders.

  • BHP?

  • how much is a gearbox and diff?? and what year is the car it come out of??

  • @scotty36: find yourself an old Olds Toronado, (1 used a 1972, but most any year would work) and take out engine, trans, diff, and you will have one very compact package. Build a new frame for VW and you will be ready to go!

I used Corvair trailing arms set up with 4 bar linkage. You could use Corvette trailing arms also. Then yiu will need set of custom axles.

  • I wish I still had my 72 Olds Toronado.

  • wow looks like its fast! One of my buddies in our desert group has the same set up in his rail...that thing is crazzy fast! so im shur this one is too.

  • That thing sounds badass.Must be fast as all hell.Awsome idea!!

  • nice

  • I had a Toro engine in my 30 Roadster... They're a TON OF FUN in a light car!

  • what id love to know is, will the toronado get re-fitted with the vw flat four? now thats a conversion that hasnt been done........

  • It hasn't been done because it would suck!

  • I'm almost two months into an Ariel Atom clone (got a pipe bender and dies for Christmas), with this engine and transmission. Glad to see like-minded people. Saw an ad on for a Manx buggy powered by a Toro. My tuner car buddies don't like for being automatic, among other reasons, but with so much torque, in a 1500 lb. car, it doesn't matter. I'm flirting with the idea of setting the throttle and brake pedals up wide, like a go-kart. I got this idea from seeing sport bike engines on a few karts.

  • That is amazing!!

  • Monster !!

  • Your car needs to produce smoke from the back tires to impress me.

Lets see a vid of that.

  • What transmission did you use?

  • I used the regular Toro turbo 425 transmission. It sits along side of the engine, connecting to the engine with a chain drive, all standard Toro stuff.

The differential (again standard Toro) bolts right to the back of the tranny, and I use custom drive shafts to connect to Corvair trailing arms, set up with 4-bar linkage.

Finally bought wheels yesterday at Street Rod Nats in Lou ,had been shopping for 15 years!!

    Thanks for your interest.

  • thats so awesome

  • The body I am using started life as a 69 VW bug.

I have chopped top 5.5", hidden door hinges, 3" wider than stock fenders, full compliment of VDO gages, all joints filled, etc.

    Thanks for your interest.

  • Build a kitcar over it and it will eat real exotics all day.

  • MY GOD.......

  • Sweet ride man... I love the sound of that good ol 455 "Rocket"... Yep that grin says it all :)

  • I'm pretty sure the Olds 455 is different from the Pont 455. The Chevy 454 will have lots more after market stuff avail. Don't know what's avail for Pont 455, but for the Olds 455 there is some stuff out there. I go all my speed equipment from Mondello. Thanks for your interest.

  • They used Olds engines in the 50's/60's for a reason, easy, cheap, reliable power, and alot of it. And there is quite a bit of aftermarket support for pontiac engines just to let you know. And my god, that beetle will be a slaughterhouse on wheels, get that beast finished! Good choice on it all, probably the only one in the world

  • @passaf1 The Buick 455 has the shortest stroke then the Pontiac 455 has the next longest stroke then the Olds 455 Has the longest stroke

  • @passaf1 I had a mildly built Poncho 455 in my 80 T/A. It had so much torque it twisted up the body. heh

  • I just have a cheap subwoofer and speakers but man, the whole floor shook. A nice tip of the hat to OLDS (rip) and another fine example of all the cool things you can do to a VW if you think outside the bun. Good work and hope you get it finished.

    Sigh Sullivan

  • Thanks Sigh, I plan on making a little more progress this year. I can't wait for first burn out!!

    John

  • can you tell me if they are the same 455s as whats in a 79 trans am. because i have one and id love to work the moter a bit and just wondering if a 454 would be better. id like to keep the 455 if there any good

  • D O N O T PUT A CHEVY IN A PONTIAC. THAT IS DISGUSTING. The 455 Olds is different from the Pontiac, but both are great engines. Chances are you'll be finding a 454 truck motor, which were pretty gutless compared to the non-smog Olds/Pontiacs. There is plenty of aftermarket stuff for your car, and you can get alot of power out of porting/polishing/cam/slight O/B and intake/carb setup. My friends running a 400 iron headed smog motor in his 77 formula 4 speed, and it rips!

  • People have done worse though.

    Ford engines into Chevy cars....

    Chevy engines into Ford cars....

    and It doesnt stop there...

  • fuck chevs and fords, theyre mcdonalds cheese burgers, mass produced and tastless. chevy's were cheap in their day, and ford got thier reputation for a reason. and mopars had cheap disgusting interiors.

  • Passaf 1, did you finish your vw oldsmobile project? If so, please tell me how long it took, do you have updated video. Thank you Beny Ohio

  • Thanks for your comment. No, not finished yet, been concentrating on sick wife and grandkids.

But hopefully may get close to on the road this year. Financial status needs to improve though.

  • Wow.Freaking amazing. Girls...!? screw them,when u have a beast like that,who needs them,. =)

  • my dad's friend put a 455 toronado in a Karmann Ghia as a mid-engine when i was a kid. it was fast and it sounded great.

  • damn that is nasty......look at the grin on his face.....I tried to explain this emotion to a girlfriend before....I told her that if there was a naked woman and a hot car behind it, most men would ask the woman to stand to the side and be quiet so that they could hear the engine.....hell we have seen many naked women in our lives, but how many times will we see a hot car and engine....LOL - she didn't understand so I just told her cars are our shoes, and she got it....LOL

  • If I ever get the darn thing done, you will really see a big grin!!

  • You NEED to finish this!

  • dam i wanted to be the first to do this ! bad ass !

  • You would have had to done it a long time ago to be first. There are lots of crazy folks out there who have done this over the years.

    Thanks for your interest.
