As a newcomer fan to Lucas and Edwin, I am curious about the actors who currently, or have portrayed, the gay characters...are they gay actors or straight actors playing gay..i.e. Lucas, Edwin, Marco...I only ask because the actor portraying Lucas seems very comfortable with his character...thanks

@cvsken Lucas was a contestor for the Dutch idols (talen show). In an interview after the talent show he said he was bisexual. The guy that's portraying Edwin is straight in real life. I've seen him in real life at my work and I believe it. About the niece part, if anyone's wondering, I think that's a translation error. The Dutch word for niece, can also be used to name feminine gay people. Whether in a positive or a negative way. It's about the context.

Yes, "Noudster" sounds good. And now that these complex relationships have been explained again, we know that Ludo is actually Lucas' ... uncle, right? And ... let me see ... Nina and Lucas are half-brother and half-sister AND cousins! Meanwhile, "nicht" is cute in Dutch, but "niece" in English - hmmmm, one doesn't even address a real niece as "niece". But maybe it'll catch on in English. (It started HERE!) And Noudster's big hair. Yes, definitely the elephant in the, er, stables.

@86Mikaila her mom was Isabella, the lady that Kidnapped Nina when she was younger. Isabella gave birth in a psychiatric hospital, and later staged hers and Amys death to get away from Ludo. Later Amy learns her father is alive, runs away to him and Ludo finds out that Amy and Isabella are alive, and forces Isabella to stay, later Isabella dies right before signing the custody papers.

@TrGreaves2090 It's J.S. Bach (1685-1750) and it's from one of his suites for unaccompanied cello. Boring? It's been around for 300 years, that's incredible staying-power. I doubt anything we're listening to in Spring 2011 will be around for 50 years, much less 300. Think of it as Shakespeare for the ears: it takes a bit of effort to get into it (the musical language is a bit like Shakespeare's flowery Elizabethan English) but its rewards are immense.

@dipsyhappy This is one of those translation issues. In Dutch the word for niece (nicht) is also used for gay men. It can be used in a negative way but also a positive way. A lot of gay men call themselves "nicht". Maxime has no problem with Lucas or his sexuality so her using that word is not bothering Lucas (or me).

Looking back through all the episodes Lucas spends a hell of a lot of time with a battered and bruised face.

He should go to some self-defense classes. He never even bothers to fight back!

He would be the perfect character to have a domestic abuse storyline with though, hopefully him and Edwin wont turn out that way but maybe if he ever gets into another relationship (hey, this is soap land they are bound not to last.)

Maybe it's mostly because I dislike Maxime, but I can't stand her calling Lucas "niece." We've been through this already that in Dutch she's just being friendly, but it doesn't sit well in English. It sounds belittling.

Meanwhile, poor Nina so wants Noud back she can't stop pushing him. She ALMOST makes me want Noud to find someone else. Can't she tell anything from the coldness of his kiss? But maybe he'll have a breakthrough. It's a soap, after all.
