If you can't get a good tone out of a Boogie Lonestar and Sennheiser e609/ Shure Sm57 you are in the wrong line of work. Kinda of a "point and shoot" situation.
crap gear? have you ever heard of Andy timmons?...the mesa lonestar is one of the most beautiful amp on earth and the guitar is a fender telecaster...dont talk shit of things you ignore
What if you have a 2x12 amp. Where would you put the mic? Also, could I use a mic, like the Sm57, and put it directly into Garageband or Audacity? Thanks! 5/5
The mic placement is relative to the speaker itself, so just pick one of the two and apply the techniques. If you have an interface with a mic preamp, you would be fine to use an SM57 for recording.
if the amp had direct outs couldn't you just use that to get the exact sound of the amp?

I love the tone of your electric guitar in the intro song. What was used to achieve it?

How do you know how far away to place a condenser mic from the amp without damaging it?
seeker909 5 months ago
0:58 for edge of cone
1:11 for center of cone
1:26 for halfway between edge and center of cone
1:44 for off-axis, mic at outside facing center
1:59 for two mics
Thumbs up so people can quick compare!

Gotta watch phase with 2 tho, lining up both diaphragms of the mics correctly
glassprison01 11 months ago
putting the mic in the center of the cone doesn't make the sound "higher" it makes the tone "brighter".

If you want good results, get two mics taht sound different and blend them, like the end of this video, i think that was the best tone he got.

@Btroisi13 you need atleast an external soundcard or a mixer.
sk8r4life911 1 year ago
@Btroisi13 buying recording software is well worth it mate, but you do need a good outboard to process the sound from the mics
