@SUSSTURUCU $250 at a gunshow 3 years ago. I still see K98's at every show I go to. Asking price is usually $250-$350 for a Russian capture, $500-$700 for a bolt-mismatch and $800-$1200 for all-matching
@SUSSTURUCU Yes. You can buy guns with a green card. Call your local dealers or local law enforcement, they will be able to tell you everything you need to know.
@SUSSTURUCU How's it going buddy, you should come down to Oklahoma. You can go into a dealer here and walk out in 20 minutes with a gun, we have some of the best gun laws in the nation. General rule of thumb is to avoid the coasts, east and west. those generally have more gun laws. and the North east. When buying from private dealer, it's like buying milk from the store or gas at a gas station.
@MrMosinMan89 Wow. I got mine for $350. All bolt parts (minus the safety) match, and the bolt matches the receiver. All stock parts (minus the barrel band retaining spring) match, but are a different number than the bolt and receiver. Almost like two different guns swapped parts. It's a non-capture BYF44. Nothing has been re-numbered. It's a GI duffle cut stock, and it came apart when I shot it because the guy who put it back together didn't do a good enough job. I need a new bayo lug eventually
@vides936 In Amerika sagt man "flinch" ;) Ich versuche nicht zu mucken, aber es ist fur mich ein bisschen schwer. Keep watching, new videos of German firearms are coming soon!
@johnnytastetest You're absolutely right and I'm well aware of it. Trigger squeeze/not flinching is the number 1 thing I think about while shooting this rifle, but a K98 with turk surplus ammo REALLY kicks. We thought we had filmed the target but the memory card was full and we didn't get any footage. the target wasn't embarrassing, but it wasn't great either.
Great video, I love shooting my K98. Is that Turkish 8mm surplus? I can tell they are hot. BTW I love the autofocus sound of your camera, its so robotic.
@MrMosinMan89 Just saying, It actually dose use 7.92x57mm, however 0.08mm is so small a difference that 8mm rounds can be used and are used in the weapon.
I checked the gun's history and when the Mauser K98k was originally fielded it was made to use 7.92x57m Mauser rounds.
@1169Timothy The Germans actually called it 8x57mm IS (Infanterie Spitzgeschoss). If you measure an 8mm mauser round with calipers, you will find that it is .323" wide, or 8.2mm. I have no idea where Americans (cuz we're the only ones who call it 7.92mm) got 7.92mm from, but it's just plain wrong. It really is 8mm (8.2mm to be exact). If you shot a 7.92mm round (.311") through an 8mm mauser barrel (.323"), i would be like throwing a hotdog down a hallway.
Russian Capture? Looks like the bolt is in the purple and the barrel and receiver are very dark. Mauser 98k bringbacks from WW2 are usually more brownish. Just wondering.
I see you have the sight hood, and the cleaning rod, I wish I had those on my 98K, but then, why do you have the barrel bands spring missing? You can order it online.
@cber8860 They're talking about keeping the rifle shouldered while you work the bolt, instead of bringing it off the shoulder to work the bolt like I do in the video.
@JNT20 The turkish surplus ammo that I'm firing in this video is very high pressure ammo. After firing, the case expands rapidly and basically glues itself to the chamber. It takes a lot of force to open the bolt; making it difficult to work on the shoulder. I have to bring the rifle down to get enough leverage to open the bolt easily. With lower pressure ammo, I can work the bolt on the shoulder more easily.
These post on YouTube are well done, but they are all your local law enforcement will need to convict you of tresspassing and reckless conduct. What are you thinking??? Do you have any idea where those rounds are hitting? Also, you can walk with a wooden leg, eat with false teeth, but you will not be able to see with a glass eye when one of those surplus rounds fails and takes your right eye out...
@nightrider00758 those surplus rounds were made to be fired in a Mauser 98 action which is a tough safe design. How do you know MrMosin does not own this land or have permission to be there?

@MrMosinMan89 Hmmm.
I am not sure about that, but since you actually have the weapon and loaded the rounds yourself, I will take your word for it.
1169Timothy 3 months ago
@MrNoobhunter2 8x57J = .311" bore dia/.320" groove dia/.318" boolits/low pressure
8x57S = .323" boolits
Both are "8x57 Mauser", both are "7.92x57".
