  • Awesome opening video.

  • THERE IT IS!!! This is the game I had when I was little. It scared the CRAP out of me and I'm so mad my amiga is broken. I so want to play it again!

  • Press A then type in "ten pints"

  • Comment removed

  • This was the first game I ever played on the Amiga 500 back in 1990, legendary

  • this game scared me so much when i was a kid, the intro is freaky

  • lol

Worst ending ever. The game over screen is about a hundred times more entertaining.

  • 80's Fantasy; the music, the visuals,....you simply can't beat it. This game drove me nuts as a kid! Due a re-vamp methinks.

  • I'm at the snail and I've got 33 coins.

    Now what ?

  • @TheApachacha Not enough. You need 36 coins.

  • @SonicTheHedgehog17 Learned that the hard way.

  • Why does your guy just randomly freeze at 3:27 I wonder ? I tried playing it, it does the exact same thing.

  • @TheApachacha The game is loading.

  • @TheApachacha

The reason is because at that moment the game had to load the rest of the stage from the floppie and you had to wait, i know it because i had this game original for my amiga, i suppose you played it on an emulator, and the emulator does the same thing when you reach certain parts, of course you don´t notice the "loading" because that could only be heard when the drive was loading the next part of the level.

  • @cubex55 you legend, on a major Amiga nostalgia trip, really awesome to see this. This game was so difficult, it drove me crazy when I was a kid, but I loved the visuals and music. So cool.

  • dont remember that intro in mega drive version D:

  • where is maletoth ?

  • @gantulgagansukh In another Ca... game.

  • Can you post the longplay of the game TIME MACHINE, if you have it...thank you very much ;-)) Matteo

  • Man, that's the best nostalgia-trip I've had for aaages, thank you so much :D

  • "ten pints"

  • this looks far worse than the first part of the game

  • should have gone right at the beginning and asked for 'ten pints'..........invincibility anyone :-) Awesome music & intro

  • 16:00 #In-tro-Dah... in-tro-Daah! In-tro-Dah... intro-DAH!

  • I was watching the SEGA CD longplay for this and cracked the shits because they messed with the theme song.... So i came to watch the Amiga one :D

  • @jasojase Another World !!! Yes !!

  • @jasojase Another World !!! Yes !!

  • I have so much no idea who Maletoth is.

  • @CaptainFrostshock If you'd owned the first game (as opposed to pirating it ;), the beautifully-written introduction in the manual explained who Maletoth The Beast Lord was. Strictly speaking, the big toe you killed in the first game was supposed to have been Maletoth, but Beast 2 retconned that and said that it was actually Zelek (the Big Bad in this game) in giant form, hence taking your sister to replace you - it's personal. :)

  • wandererlain. It doesn't make that very clear does it?

  • Damn, Aarbron lives in the middle of NOWHERE...

  • I always wondered how they managed to get the graphics worse in the sequel

  • @sasfcps Not worse, it just used the hardware differently. Beast 1's infamous multi-parallax effect was limited in that you could only move left and right - the tree cavern and castle levels were loaded separately with 1 parallax layer. Beast 2 they tried to make more seamless (note how the rear parallax layer scrolls in both axes), but it meant that the parallax layer was restricted to 2 colours. By Beast 3 they'd figured out a way of doing Beast 2's scrolling with Beast 1's parallax effect.

  • @turricaned Unfortunately by the time Beast 3 came out, most people were playing Wolf3D and Doom.

  • @turricaned Well that makes good sense, thanks for the info!

  • @sasfcps No probs - I'm lucky enough to have a friend who worked in the UK games industry for 10 years. His boss was Jason Perkins (of Monty /Thing On A Spring fame), and one of his colleagues used to work for Psygnosis and knew Paul and Martin. He confirmed my suspicions that Beast 1 was effectively a graphics demo with a game bolted on. Beast 2 was more of a coherent game, but difficulty was pitched way too high. Beast 3 was almost perfect, but only die-hard Amigans (like me) played it.

  • Anyone noticed the similarity of the music to the music in The silence of the lambs.

  • @jasojase

We do have recordings of all the "Another World" versions on different systems ;)

  • good god someone could actually get somewhere on this morbid game. It creeped the hell out of me.

  • i fukin hated this game !!!

  • Gameplay wasn't the best, but the atmos, music and graphics were worth playing it through over and again as this really was the shizzle 20 years ago!

To the guy who played this through - fair play, never thought i'd see the day someone finished it without the ten pints assist!

  • @GreggGMan I couldn't complete it even with the 10 pints assist

  • Amazing. I never thought it was possible to get very far in this game, yet alone win it without the Ten Pints cheat.

Good question at the end, Where is Maltooth? What's the answer?

  • @KeredDrahcir Maletoth is the final boss in Shadow of the Beast 3, although I thought it looked pretty lame for an all-powerful demon.

  • THIS GAME WAS THE SHIT BACK IN THE DAY!!!! the music..... ah spine chills <3

    game was hard doe...

  • the best intro ever. I only was able to watch the intro because I had disc 1 only.

  • I'd still say that SOTB II is the hardest game I've ever played, even to this day. I feared this game as a kid. SOTB II had a very creepy and palpable atmosphere like no other game. It boasted an unforgettable intro sequence & amazing graphics but the developers put no thought into the actual gameplay. The gameplay had many pitfalls: vague clues for ensuing puzzles, traps that if done incorrectly the game was over, no save points & you only had one life.

    ....two words: ten pints.

  • zerek. hashuash

    zelek

  • i'm playing the mega cd version of this on my psp. the game is good but talk about being difficult!

  • Not to put any cloud on the original (as originals ARE the best) But i would say a first person Shadow of the Beast WOULD UTTERLY ROCK!!

  • Game freaked me out as a kid, I would start playing then piss my pants and ask my brother to play so I can watch :)

  • Damn, amazing to finally find this game. I just remembered playing it as a little kid. It also scared me a lot. xD I never forgot the intro and the guy opening the door. Never got far though, it was far too difficult for me.

  • Looks so easy when you see the walkthru, but I remember at the time thinking it was hard as nails. Not as hard as Night Breed though!

  • @CammyMac lol, you must have brought screen gems package too. I agree Nightbreed was stupidly difficult along with Shadow of the best 2. Even Days Of Thunder was difficult it went so slow!

  • Even though I am a console and SEGA lover and prefer Shadow of the Beast 1 for the Sega Mega Drive Japanese version more than the Amiga one I see that Shadow of the Beast 2 is looking better on Amiga compared to the SMD and the Sega Mega CD version as well. The music at least on the SCD is still awesome but the graphics are a bit down...

  • I'd like to see Night Breed The Interactive Movie longplay but I spose you dont have that game lol

  • Great that people still share these cool games. You happen to remember what was the game (adventure game if I recall correctly) that started from a small stone house and you were locked into this small room, and there was some sort of ogre that was living in that house. You had to get out from the room and then something... damn can't remember much..

  • good skills! I dread to think how many hours I wasted trying to get anywhere on this game

  • great music :-)

  • i loved how up itself this game was and yeah impossiably hard but a work of art vsionary jots of acid and limitations i think limitations make u more creative

  • 2 words: ten pints

  • Damn I forgot how shitty the ending was..all that trial and error effort for your on grats skin on a cd.....

  • 8:35 i can't...I could not when I was a kid...i still can not,nice vid thanks man.

  • And people bitch about Ninja Gaiden being hard. This pisses and shits on Ninja Gaidens difficulty!

  • Good lord, the intro!

  • OMG i would have given up this after 3 Minutes. The gameplay itself looks already frustrating. Respect to the walkthrough

  • From 17:48 on the sound goes out of synch... and it get worse as the game proceeds... :( :(

  • good stuff ~ how a game of @maltyful @bever49 @mrjoemumford @bankguy1000

    @29razorbock29 ~

  • I still think #1 was the best out of all of them.. Esp for the music.

  • I wonder everytime when I see such games how the creators can do that without being on drugs.

  • Kudos.

I could only ever do this with "TEN PINTS"

  • Why the title it's shadow of the beast? You transform into a beast, or what?

  • Far better on YouTube, I didn't have to go back and start again once.

  • Still one of the most spooky intros to a game & one of the most "strange" world game series ever!!

  • @Eufeion Yeah fuck that crying baby.

  • Respond to this video... TEN PINTS

  • I could never finish this game at the time.

  • Very nice well played !!

You help me pass the game since i have a thing for this game.

Cuz like when i was 7 i played this and it was scary and very hard.

So i'm like desperate to complete the game now LOL

Say at 7:00 when you get to the switches, howcome i get to those switches and hit the lower switch as you do in the video though the elevator never comes, i just drop into the acid and die...fustrating any help please?

  • @anglojojo You need to ask the question about the "Traps" to the first guy you rescue. He will tell you what switch as it can change.

  • Future Wars! That was a classic.

  • does anyone no the game where the intro was a ritual at stonehenge???

  • @7wattsy

    Moonstone

  • @cubex55 cheers....another amiga classic....gore option was great for a 10year old!!!

  • @cubex55 another for ya.....u started the game in a office and had to put a bucket of water on top of door to get out and then i remember u went to a different world???? remember that one?

  • @7wattsy

    Future Wars

  • 7wattsy Future Wars was a classic back in the day

  • @7wattsy Spy vs Spy - great game.

  • @7wattsy Ultima VI The False Prophet?

  • @7wattsy Moonstone

  • So many memories, so many great games on the Amiga.

  • imma still nostalgic of the music :) the whole ambiance of the game ^^ Tim wirght rulez

  • masterpiece of game on AMIGA platform

  • "Thanks to Andrew Bond for the compressor" WTF were they thinking? how could they add that stupid message in the title screen of the game??? not serious!

  • I can remember playing this when i was about 7 or 8. The intro used to scare the hell out of me.

  • @RotherhamAdam101

Same for me, but I found that whole game scary! ^^

  • i used to see the game over sequence in my dreams

  • thnxs 4 the ideas ~ good roms 2 b had :-)

  • thats one bad ass intro!!

  • Weird and obscure game series. I love it =)

  • Brings back memories watching this! Looking back on it now though these kind of games back then were just total nonsense and infuriating to the point of insanity. Probably where I got my bad temper from. Here's the main reason why, there was just pretty much NO WAY to avoid getting hit by certain enemies. You'd have enemies coming at you from all directions and your character just couldn't attack effectively to deal with it. Plus the fact that when you died you'd go BACK TO THE START.

  • oh man !!!!! this brings back so many memories !!! i could only cheat 2 complete this game , it was hard as fuck !!! thanks so much 4 loading this up and 4 the memories

  • das hab ich nicht mal mit dem "Ten Pints"Cheat geschafft

  • ten pints

  • This brings back so many memory's from growing up i played this all the time! Great game

  • well that could have saved me an hour or 2 from the age of 10 to 12!! They spelt weird wrong, but seriously: what a game....

  • Is the game loading during the parts where the game sort of freezes for a few seconds?

  • I remember being awe struck by this game.

I still sucked at it though. Thanks for letting

me see the remaining 75% of the game.

    Cheers.

  • Turrican Vs SOTB

    Turrican wins

  • this was my second video game ever, i was probably 5 or 6 years old, if you think it was frustrating try playing that on my age :P (i also was scared all the time when i played this game, everything on this game looks and sounds grim), i only had that and sonic, i should look for my console around i hope it still works, i have both games here pristine original cartriges.

  • amazing game. there is no more such pearls like this one

  • LOL Necropoolis...you almost shot it there :D

What a hard game, i remember finishing it without cheating. Jesus it was hard.

  • i loved this game ... incredibly frustrating at times but awesome when you figured out the puzzles. like jumping on that thin bit of ground to get into the underground. how long did that take to find?!?

  • Anyone ever notice that you can fall into the bottom levels if you jump into the gap between the branch (jumping from right to left)at 13:48? Looked like a missed bug in their programming.

  • Haha me and my sister were 4 and 7 years old when we were playing this no wonder we never got anywhere near as far as this, think we spent most of our time waiting for the bastard amiga to load!!!!

  • Sorry, not PC... Amiga I mean!

  • Yes... thinking back, these were probably the best series of games available for the PC. They were probably better than 'Another World' and 'Flashback and other such games in my opinion. Although this second instalment was very difficult without the cheat mode enabled.

  • @fluro2829 Not PC, AMIGA I mean!

  • Great game but very difficult,No save points so when you die your going all the way back to the title screen,i mean ALL THE WAY BACK,when you died the game punished you so much it may aswell have taken you back to the title screen, turned off your computer, put itself back in its box,put you back in the bed you woke up in that morning and sent the human race back to the dawn of time lol

  • 4:16 - I didn't know they had bowling balls in the Conan age.

    \8-P

4:48 - I didn't know they had nuclear reactors in the Conan age.

    \8-P

8:04 - Bulldog beast is lulz!

    XD

Note: Conan meets Altered Beast meets The Flintstones (because it's like Mr. Slate's quarry).

  • Dude, you're sad.

  • No I'm not. I'm happy.

  • I remember having to play the game a number of times because you could inadvertently kill off important "NPC"s.

The game was absolutely superb though. Thanks for the full run through, brought back such fond memories.

  • l feared this game when l was little, mostly because of 1:50

  • only 25 minutes long and i couldnt ever manage to finish the goddamn game... didnt have the internet then either to look up cheats! brilliant game tho, id love to play it again :) music brings me back too...

  • Super game and i remember the "old times"..:)

  • One of my favorite games of all time, the whole atmosphere was completely unrivaled at the time, and still is in a way lol

  • This actually scared me when I was little! Very good game for the time, though.

  • Fantastic game!

    Psygnosis rules!

  • This game needs a remake, though the difficulty was insane the atmosphere and style of the game is amazing.

  • Yeah, i agree.

  • Would made for an awesome RPG. =)

  • @wonderboy2402 That's exactly why it DOESN'T need a remake, you Hollywood spade.

  • Two things I remember about this one: Incredibly difficult and incredibly short.

  • I can't believe how poor the ending was compared to the amazing introduction. The start of the game totally wowed me when I was a kid although I never got very far.

  • @charlesgoodwin game is so difficult intro and gameover screen is more important :)

  • wow. not seen this since i was a kid. Fantastic upload!!! great music as i remember!

  • can anyone think of a game that is harder to complete?

Even with the ten pints cheat you can still "die" and not complete the game.

man, if only youtube was around when in was 9

  • @dafunkbiatch right on. where was YT when I needed you? many years ago I nearly threw my amiga out of the window on several occasions whenever I got caught in the pit with no chance of getting back up after the ladder retracts (this happened OFTEN). man, how I hated this game.

  • still got my Amiga, gona have to dig it out, ah the memories

  • that fucking loading screen at 04:55 approx, was sooooooo scared of that when i was young :D

  • i played through the whole game :D

  • i just loved this game - but i never got very far.

The music is great and I used to love the background, which gave the game an eerie feeling

  • yes this game has an amazing feeling to it,but some of the music is similar to Jungle Jill.

  • you guys remember the infamous Zipstick Super Pro and the Kempston Competition Pro 5000 Joysticks ..damn things where near indestructible...ahh the memorys...the fights with my brothers lol!

  • Never played this game, but it looks very interesting. I wish I could had an Amiga when I was young :(

  • Done in 25 mins!

    Great!

  • This game used to scare the CRAP out of me when I used to play it. I was about 4 years old then - now I see why it scared me hahaha

  • I used to be scared of this game as well. I played Shadow of the Beast 2 on my families Amiga 500 for many years!

  • If you died, THAT'S IT; no continues, passwords, save games, NOTHING. Back to the beginning you go. Kids today, you've got it so easy with yer auto-save malarkey eh?

  • @FCT5809 Yep, this game was hard as fuck if you didn't cheat, which I used to do. Don't remember the password but it made the character immortal.

  • @fuckalot3000 The game is hard even if you do make your character invulnarable - moreso possibly since you get overconfident. There are plenty of things you need to time right and do right to complete the game.

  • @fuckalot3000 you ran to the right and when you met the first wild man use the talk kay and enter "tenpints" from memory.

  • @FCT5809 You're probably a fucking 15 year old who downloaded a fuckin emulation. Go fuck yourself up the ass while you play your faggot COD kid. Oh and games like the oddesy didn't even have this much so bring up some space wars nig. and games like mario had lives, it wasn't cause of the period of time it was shitty programing.

  • @FCT5809 you're so right man, when we were growing up games were so unmerciful. You had one shot, no matter how far you got, if you died you had to start over. We were almost in fear of these games and the music to this game still gives me that nervus feeling in the pit of my stomach! Games these days are so kind in comparison

  • the graphics are awesom, i think some of the older games are more entertaining than the stuff out today, what era is this game from? anyone know?

  • 1992 for genesis version.

  • It's from 1990

  • ten pints idd, kudos doing this without it lol :D

  • Fantastic game and play-through, but my god, where is Maletoth!?

  • What does she expect, living right next to that scary looking ridge

  • ten pints, I´ll never forget it :)

  • Ten pints indeed, people. No doubt this game had the most famous cheat mode of all time!

  • ya but if you fell into the water and didnt jump out, you had to restart and it takes like 5 minutes to get back to the beginning because of the loading times...oh memories

  • although the game is way too hard, the decent atmosphere is unbeatable... wow.... goosebumps

  • Psygnosis' logo is spooky.

  • EASILY the CREEPIEST game of all time, with an amazing soundtrack and graphics for its time

  • agreed.i can remember watching the intro sequence in my local computer shop on this game. i was soo wanting this computer and game.ssooooo.i remember telling my dad i could have the computer and just ONE game and i would be happy with that alone..oh - and defender of the crown :)

  • Ten pints!! Props to Roger Dean for the graphics, and ten too Tim and Lee Wright! 5/5 post cubex55

  • Ten Pints!!

  • does anybody know is it possible to load some of the shadow of the beasts to my computer?please help me

  • Read the channel FAQ :)

  • ok im from finland so im not too good in english so i didnt understand the faq so well but thanks anyway:)

  • The music that comes on at 23:00 and 25:18 is awesome

  • The music of this game is just uncomparable !

  • This game has some great music.
