Souzay seems to have had an incredible ear for languages. Native speakers of so many different ones say he got theirs spot on. This is certainly true of his English pronunciation.

This is absolutely top class!!! My favourite female-version of this most beautiful song is the late Arleen Auger(recorded in 1988 on her cd Love Songs, she died in 1993), but Gerard Souzay must be one of the best male-singers who recorded this fragile Brazilian folksong. Bravo!

Gérard Souzay a d'abord commencé à chanter en ténor.
Vers 25 ans, il décide finalement de chanter en baryton et cela pour notre plus grand plaisir.
