  • Isn't wall power (AC) different when converted to useable computer power (DC)? Because then the EVGA 1200W PSU would make sense, if they converted differently.

  • Is the sr2 any good for gameing

  • When would the cost of running that beast out price the cost of making it????

  • what a beast

  • Jesus man do you really need that supercomputer ?

  • W8 so my Silverstone Strider 1500W ST1500 will run: EVGA SR-2, x2 intel i7 2600k, x2 GTX 590??

  • @carbinfibre sr2 will not run i7 only xeons

  • 1 dislikes <----- Goto be the electrician that had to make a double circuit

  • within few years, your power bill will worth as much as your computer...

  • Can you make a tutorial video on the quickest way to sell your house and car after one has bought this motherboard alone?

  • wow....this is the first machine I see where it would actually pay of after a VERY short time to have private photovoltaics on the roof, JUST for a workstation^^ Around here it would almost cost like 4200€ a year to have this beast maxed out 24h a row (imagine you run simulations and renderings for a living). Put sum panels on the roof and after quite 5 years no more costs ever to keep the machine running -.- (and future builds). sick °-`

  • this might be a dumb question but what is the little gadget you used to see how many watts your comp is pulling and where could i buy it at i dont have water cooled but im still working on my computer but knowing how many watts your computer is pulling out of your psu is very helpful.

  • @ace420bud I bought these at home depot...you should be able to go into any hardware store and ask for a watt meter and they can lead you in the right direction. :)

  • @ace420bud There cheap, available for 10-20 £/$/EU. Their not measuring "how many watts your computer is pulling out of your psu" there measuring the power flowing from the wall into the PSU. So the computer is always using less x PSU's efficiency (which is not linear).

I think Trubyd, is making this mistake too. He seems amazed his 1200W PSU is at ~1270W when that in fact is the power it draws, not supplies. It's probably only supplying the Computer with 1000W at *best* at that point.

  • @CmdrTobs No I am not...if you listen to me talking about the power draw you will hear me say several times that 'depending on the efficiency of your PSU' ... :)

  • @Trubyd44 No, I listened *very* carefully. You constantly made references to drain on the meter being from "3 GTX 480's" rather than the drain being from the wall outlet of the PSU connected to the "3 GTX 480's". A key distinction that alerted me to your slight confusion.(Not to mention your doubts about the EVGA supply)

Then there is your implicit incredulity suggesting a 1200W rated PSU is near its limit at 1270W. Where if you understood you'd know it could read 2000W+ on that meter.

    ;)

  • @CmdrTobs Please listen to 6:40 on. I talk about the efficiency of my Mushkin PSUs. I was not confused, but I could have been a little clearer when I talked about where specifically the power draw was measured.

  • @Trubyd44 I heard you mention 'efficiency' the first time, but certainly you were confused because you were quite incredulous at about 1270W, saying that you think it maybe "All it can do". If you truly understood you'd know a1200W rated PSU drawing 1270W from the outlet is nowhere near it's full load.

Just admit it bud, a slight mistake. I have made far worst.

  • @CmdrTobs I didn't say I didn't make a mistake, I said I wasn't confused.

  • @Trubyd44 Well you sure sounded, acted and generally gave a convincing performance of someone that was. meh. It's unimportant. My correction mainly was for the sake of that guy so he doesn't freak out about his PSU when he got a reading some what beyond the his PSU ratting. Too many myths out there these days...

  • @CmdrTobs Yeah I know. Thanks for your comments.

  • @CmdrTobs ...and on your second comment..."Then there is your implicit incredulity suggesting a 1200W rated PSU is near its limit at 1270W. Where if you understood you'd know it could read 2000W+ on that meter." even at a fairly low 75% effeciency it would only be 1700W from the wall. Nothing near 2000W!?! Come on man!

  • @Trubyd44 Wrong. Firstly your in the states, so forget the optimistic efficiency rating on the box that won't be for your 115V 'Amerikan' electricity, yours will be lower. Then as I hope you know, 'enthusiast' PSU's can exceed their rating. So really your 1200W can supply about ~1400W they won't call it a 1400W PSU as the efficiency goes off a ravine at those loads (no 80+ cert). You can easily expect efficiency around <60% at the 'limit' scenario you thought you were at.

    Repeat with 1PSU & see.

  • Soon we will have PC's that require 3kW to run games if it goes on like this.

  • his electric bill must be crazy

  • I would try to get some energy back with a heat exchanger for some warm water in

    your household.

  • dude how much is your electricity bill?

  • Man, don't turn this fucking thing on again or you will be on america's most wanted just under 3 minutes when GTX480 FIREs on the windows animation!

  • Did EVGA ever get back at you?

  • Wicked Video mate, Im scared my AX1200 arriving next week, wont power my 3-way GTX480 & i7 rig all watercooled like yours...

  • I just looked at the video quickly but I saw that the power consumption didn't got to around 1550W so can't you just use a Ultra X4 1600W power supply for the whole computer instead of using two separate PSU

  • @Streetking081994 Then the PSU will fly away with the fan spinning at 10.000RMP LOL

  • @Streetking081994 it went up to 2kw

  • @trubyd44

If you want to test these all at max I suggest using a folding client, you could run every core as well as all your GPUs. Takes a while to setup, but it will be at 98% the entire time plus your contributing to help cure diseases.

  • In the spirit of Global Warming! lol. Nice build.

  • 480's rape your psu!!!

  • IM assuming it will just be two PSU slapped into one with a custom length case. Will prolly look like a power brick.

  • So when are you going start smashing some atoms ? lol

  • 2200 watts you can power 10 normal pcs with that power

  • LOL, how much to you pay for this setup monthly? I mean the electrical bill, it should skyrocket :P You kinda like buy this with a loan or smth, a loan that lasts as long as u own this rig lol

  • He will couse world end at 2012

  • 2 questions: how much RAM did you have in there at what speed?

and how in the world did you get 2560x1600 on that monitor? is that a dual-DVI connection or what? the sixe of the screen is DEFINITELY larger than 40 inches...

  • Good luck on your next power bill!

  • Holy crap! I bet when you power on, the lights dim in every house on the same power feed! You make Al Gore proud, lol. Hell, he ought to come down and shake your hand. BTW, what watt meters are you using? I wanted to do the same thing.

  • oh, on another note, you didnt have vsync on when you were playing l4d2. which is why it was running at full speed.

  • thx i own you one.. needed help with my PSU @my system... an SR2 setup as well

  • That's nothing! My hairdryer uses more watts while it's turned off! :P

  • It its as muce as my washing machine =)) 2000 W loooool

  • @zappload I think you meant dryer, and dryers pull around 5000W-6000W

  • Thanks allot for the video man! It was very informative. I myself have yet to build me a beast, so I'm just trying to get as much info I can before I start buying.

  • This video makes me wonder when a 2500 watt power supply will become available to power this computer!

  • the sr2 power supply your referring to is actually just a rebranded antec truepower quattro tpq-1200 oc. decent unit but i can bet my bottom dollar evga will jack up the price a good notch. also there is two knobs on the back. similiar to a fan controller. one is for voltage regulation and the other is the fan speed of the psu. i dunno about you guys but if i was in the market for a 1200w psu i would rather get corsairs new ax 1200 or something.

  • Fucking computers? How do they work?

  • @nickum3 seen a caterpillar turn into a butterfly, miracles aint nothing to lye

    lol

  • Just wondering how many fps in l4d2

  • Awesome power there.

  • Another great video! Keep up the good work! :D

  • Hey Trubyd44 take a look at this youtube video "watch?v=c1Dsg2thgVI" if you dont believe how a 1200w can handle this kind of system. The system that appear in the video is almost like yours and it is powered by a 1200w psu.

  • truby44, "ok so now lets look at a CPU intensive program, like cinebench 11.5. This time instead of the, uhh, left watt meter, uhh, being real high and the right one, hmm, being really high as well..."

im sorry, but that just sounds really funny cause it sounds like you were trying to compare one to the other, and it just came out the same thing.

  • @stanmm1fan I agree! Gotta love live video!!! I didn't feel like going back to fix that little hesitation/oops. :)

  • Thanks for this.

  • Great vid as always!, i can't believe L4D2 uses so much juice! it doesn't seem the most demanding of games.

  • @trubyd44 in one of youre videos you mention sub zero liquid cooling do you mean liquid nitrogen or the digital storm sub zero liquid cooling ?? i know these questions are a pain in the neck but can you measure the time the it takes your pc to startup all the way up to messenger to pop up with youre bios settings and the stock please , just as a favor please , love youre build

  • What are your electricty rates per kilowatt ? At a minimum, you spend $12 to run this rig for ONE hour. Yea, you got some money

  • Great Videos, subbed!

  • Hey man great vid!! I was wondering what ur average fps was in crysis during a heavy combat scene. I have 2 5970's and i7980x, and 12gb of ram, overclocked and it still gives me wacky performance going from 100fps to 20fps. i know the game devs didn't have quadfire on their mind during development. Anyway i was just wondering how ur rig handles crysis during heavy combat. ;)

  • whats your highest cinebench score for the cpu?

  • nice video

  • This evga power supply for sr 2 is going to have 6 +12v rails 38 amps each and your mushkins joule have 6 +12v rails 19 amps each, so it is very possible that the evga one would suffice even though it has "only" 1200 w. It is a bad idea just to look at how many watts power supplies have, even these from good brands. BTW congrats on having the best rig on youtube!

  • Just found out about your channel, and I'm liking everything I see.!

    Very professional! Subscribed!

  • fuck you suck with cameras, turn off the autofocus at least if it's not full HD footage already.

  • awesome job on your video Truby.... i like to see the SR2 PSU can do also.. i dont belive that picture on the internet

  • Hey, Truby, this video is exactly what I needed to see before finalizing the new build that I have been planning for a few months. Three GTX 480s + ASUS Rampage III Extreme mobo + i7 920 D0 OCed to 4.+GHz + 6GB DDR3 and a complete water cooling system (two loops) with crazy lighting and UV-reactive tubing. I plan on using two Corsair HX1000 power supplies with two GTX 480s on one HX1000, the other GTX 480 and rest of system on the other HX1000. Looks like two different circuits for me, too!

  • Metro 2033 has way better graphics than Crysis

  • Another nice video once again. Good job man. Also, your rig is so beautiful in the dark.

  • Very informative video sir! That's quite an amazing setup you have there to say the least and WOW at the power draw. Question if possible - I'm contemplating a rebuild with probably one OC processor and one or two 480s (stock). Would a 1K PSU be enough or should I just go to 1,200?

  • @CosplayerTheRealLink Well another question is what else will be running on that PSU, and most importantly What CPU, every one of them needs different wattage when you OC them. But as David said, 950W (price) compared to 1200W is not that much, so that 1K compared to 1,2K will be even lower. Go for 1200, it's always better to have a headroom, when you want to add something in the future. Cheers ;)

  • @CutingTheEdge Yo thanks for the reply man. Kindly appreciated. So far I'm thinking an i7 920 / 930 OC'd to a reasonable amount (mid 3ghz maybe or 4ghz if it'll stay cool), IDK first time doing this. Probably 6GB of RAM, 2 HDDs, one SSD, two opticals, sound card, that's about it I think. Yeah true, as others said maybe I can just look at the 1,200 Watt PSU or just get the EVGA one.

  • @CuttingTheEdge Oh and was figuring maybe just a regular Classified 4-way board, not an SR-2.

  • @CosplayerTheRealLink If you are only goin with dual GTX480s...I'd get the ASUS Rampage III Extreme. You get SATA III and USB 3.0 and a motherboard that will actually fit in all cases. The 4-Way board is very limited in what cases it will fit in.

  • @Trubyd44 Thanks very much for the insight Truby! I just came across your videos recently but have to say they're crazy! *nods* I'll look at your Mushkin supply then. I've had good luck with them for memory. Well the case I was contemplating building around was a Lian Li PC A70F - I'm pretty sure all the places say it can hold the E760 Classified model (and still gives SATA 6 / USB 3.0). Just leaning to EVGA for their quality in components I've had before but ASUS is usually good too.

  • @CosplayerTheRealLink The E760 doesn't support SATA 6Gb/s or USB 3.0. Only the EVGA E768 FTW3 supports it on the LGA1366 socket at this time.

  • @Trubyd44 Oh, thanks very much. I think I was just comfortable w/o Sata 6Gb/sec and for the USB 3.0 I'd get the EVGA add-on card. Then again if I'm building such a nice system for the next few years, maybe I will look at the Asus board then. Thanks.

  • @Trubyd44 the E770 does :)

  • @CosplayerTheRealLink Is this window for comments a little bit small or is it just me :)? Alright so i'll continue. 4-Way Classified, if you're looking for 1x CPU setup. Because for SR-2, it is non-sense to put other than Xeon CPUs in there.Main Questions, that one need to ask himself are: Rendering/Benching? Gaming/Entertainment? When one has answer, he'll start to accommodate the hardware for that specific purpose.Ok, enough talk. 1.2KW PSU is your way to go ;) Cheers!

  • @CosplayerTheRealLink The Mushkin 1200Ws are awesome. Take a look at them, and at a price of about $200 they can't be beat. Look at my other videos where I do an unboxing on them!

  • @CosplayerTheRealLink You're welcome ;) and another question of course is budget :). When you have enough money, i can gladly recommend you Enermax Revolution 1250W.. I have one in my system, and I'm happier than ever with it. Plus it uses some high-tec japanese capacitors, so you can expect durability. And about that motherboard, if you are looking for Double CPU setup, then it's no doubt that SR-2 is the way (but of course another power supply for that CPUs). If not, then stick with 4-way Class

  • I envy you :) Crysis has been stomped

  • Great vid! awful power consumption, but that was expected :P

  • Jesus man!! This ''PC" of yours is a danger to humanity, i hope it wont collapse in to a black hole, that would be nasty... :)

The power consumption is bigger then my welding machine uses at full amperage.

  • OK so Truby, your vids nearly earned me a divorce lol - your inspiration got me to splash out 3G's on a new system with two GTX-480's, a dedicated 9800GT for PhysX and a 975 Extreme holding it all together. I could only afford to water cool the CPU but my vendor tells me a 950W transformer will suffice - what do you think?

  • @jddonba I don't think your vendor knows his stuff. I think for the most part the 950W will do fine, but there is absolutely NO margin for error. For instance, my buddy has dual GTX480s and a 9800GT for physX and he uses the Zalman piece that measures power draw. His unit goes over 999W when benchmarking or playing games. You need a 1200W to have some room. The cost for a 950W as compared to a 1200W is not that big. Get the 1200W!

  • lol, 2300W's of maximum power consumption, that's just ridiculous... I wonder how power hungry the next generation (GTX 600 series?) will be...

Anyways, awesome video once again, favourited!

  • @arvutihull Yeah, that is definately crazy! Now you can understand why I can't imagine that EVGA 1200W powering anything close to this.

  • You should run prime95 but leave a few cores free. Then run furmark at the same time ;)

  • fold 24 hours on gpus and cpu =)

  • i beleae that the power reading on ur monitors are the dc watage while the actual power from ue PSU is using ac wattage. even though this is how its read i find it hard to beleive that EVGA's 1200 wat PSU is able to power all this hardware

  • lol. every video is awesome wit ur gaming rig

  • awesome power there man and woot 3200+ Watt total whoow thats little to mutch.

  • You should upgrade to a 1500W for that secondary PSU.

  • Comment removed

  • @ Trubyd44 do those meters measure AC or DC wattage?

  • @livephysco That kind of meter shows AC power. But there is no such thing as ac or dc wattage, only voltage. Since wattage is voltage x amps it will always be the same.

  • @livephysco It reads AC...in AMPs and coverts to watts using W = V x A.

  • WOW! Awesome PC! Thanks for the info!

  • @kungfufarter wtf are you talking about?

  • @kungfufarter he has two 1200 watt power supply's...

  • @TonkatrainHONKHONK I'm glad someone told him. :D

  • @kungfufarter Eh, wrong. Boy, David has 2x 1,2 KW Mushkin Joule power Supplies in that cube. Do something about that math ;). And David, exceptional work on your side, as always ;)

  • @CutingTheEdge Thanks as always!!! :)

  • Comment removed

  • @kungfufarter Look boy, "this guy" as you refer to him is my Friend. When you're talking non-sense like that, I suppose you don't have friends.Anyway, I was pointing out your little mistake..You always attack people verbally, because of your mistakes? And you call me no life? I have a wife to care about, and company to run.How old are you?15?How can you talk about life when you're in mere 1/5 of yours? One advice, stop w/ this nonsense before you'll make even bigger fool from your self. Thank you

  • hehe, look foward to your power bill. : P

  • @onoff314 you actually can have 3 monitors in 3d with the nvidia surround 3d and any gtx 400 gpu series and compatible monitors and the 3d kit wich is about 1400 usd if you already have the video cards

  • Damn. My computer pulls only 250 watts when maxed out.

I love your videos. Glad to see someone out there playing with hardware that I'll never get to play with and posting videos about it.

  • @IntelExtremeGraphics No problem. I love making the videos...I just wish I had more time. I can always think of all kinds of videos to do.

  • jesus 400w a card from the wall insane

  • microsot should consider working on a new OS for enthusiast level computers

  • Very informative, and impressive video.

  • Subbed.

  • Truby,

Although its the first time i m writing in the comment section, i ve seen all your videos and i must say you are doing an exceptional job keeping us informed and pointing out interesting thoughts of yours...i really like you have no sponsors, like others do, forcing you to point out specific brands and make stupid vids...

Keep up the good work....we support u!

  • @TaSozzZ01 THANKS A LOT! It's comments like yours why I love doing these videos so much. Thx! Although I wouldn't mind a sponsor or two. ;)

  • @Trubyd44 lol, wouldnt we all, lol

  • I just jizzed my pants and when I got up. I shit my self *drools*

  • Why do you dont use 3 monitors, in 3D ?

  • @congoman193 you can't

  • @onoff314 why ?

  • Great display of power usage, thumbs up.

  • Isn't is better to have 2 GTX480s, 1 CPU, half the amound of HDDs and half the amound of fans on 1 PSU. And the other half of your (amazing) computer on the other PSU?

I think you would get cleaner power for a little bit better OC.

And I think it would be better for the PSUs alsow. (less heat,...)

  • @berre1994 Well, normally you logic makes sense...but since both PSUs are near their 1200W limit, I think the way I have it is about as good as any other way. See? No matter how I split them, they will both be almost at their limit. Thanks for the comment.

  • He put the computer on load and it slowed down my buffer rate and made it cut on and off. That's how powerful that rig is.

  • When you spend 6-8k on a computer who cares about power bills.

  • @MADJIHAD1942 you halfway there.

  • @MADJIHAD1942 And I wish I currently had $750 for a quad core instead of my duo core processor :(

  • @ScootSkateBmxer You can get an i930 for $280, roughly. What motherboard do you have?

  • @Trubyd44 My motherboard doesn't support, so I basically need to build a new computer. My current desktop (primary) is a Sony Vaio VGC-RC210G. I am only 15 so I don't have a job or money :/.

  • @Trubyd44

you can actually get an i7 950 for 300.

  • @ScootSkateBmxer the chips he has are 1730$ MSRP

  • Your power bill must be huge. Fermis are power hogs. It's sad to think that all this equipment will be outdated.

  • @Costerguy1234556 just like when gtx 280's were the best there is, but now you can't buy them anymore.

  • You need a crazy electric bill but is it worth it ?

  • good golly. Would not want those power bills.

  • They gotta make at least 2200W PSU...lol

  • nice how much did this pc rig cost u?

  • Holy Cow O.O 550 idle is heavy ^^

    AND WO.oT the H4XXX, 2200 Watt .... nothin more to say ...
