@minpinful It usually sells for around $500 with shipping on ebay but the price fluctuates based on your luck. There are not alot of those left around. I got mine for $400 and it had even some celestions in it which was nice.
I have a beta lead head. and no it's not defective just plain freakishly awesome. I buried a peavy 5150 with mine hooked up to a Sunn 300wt 4/12 cab! I have had no less than 12 people try to buy it off me!
I have the same head but it isnt housed with the 2 speakers, just the head alone. It's an amazing piece of old equipment. I stopped using anything else live. So many people ask me after sets, what pedal i was using ect.
I use none, just the gain/distortion it came with, and sounds thick, gritty and amazing for a solid state Amp.
These things are also very durable, which is why so many work so well 30+ years later.
dude somebody just gave me one of these amps for free, was gonna throw it away, its beat all too hell but is the loudest amp, I have the master on 1(no exageration) and its so fucking loud I have to just get out its way, its rigoddamdiculous how loud that amp is, has a tone about as good as old solidstate marshalls so Im pleased with it,but I think gonna have to get some kinda powerbreak,I wonder if the master is defective or if these amps are just loud, have you had yours for awhile any thoughts?
I was given a Beta Lead combo with blown output transistors. Looking over the schematics, it looks like the lead and bass are almost identical. The bass has a different capacitor on the treble control and no reverb. I had it plugged into a 2X15 cabinet and it works really good as a bass amp. If you don't mind not having reverb, the Beta Bass would probably sound great on guitar.
@amital an amplifier "head" means it is just the amp without speakers. It needs to be plugged into a speaker cabinet. The sunn beta bass and beta lead are virtually the same amp. Just the lead has reverb.

One of the best-sounding solid state amps ever built, I'd say. Rock on!

I have the beta bass, the stand alone head. its pretty nice, a good slap/pop amp with brilliant highs. a nice distortion too.
fukuufukingfuk 3 years ago
do you know how the beta bass would sound through electric guitar. how much did you get it for
huntergleblanc 3 years ago
basically the exact same. tons of distortion to go around. Sunn BetaBass makes a brilliant and versatile guitar head.

i didnt understood whats the sunn beta bass HEAD? its somthing you connect to a guitar amp and it turns it into a bass amp??
amital 3 years ago
no, it's a bass amp in a head version as opposed to a combo.
