Come to think of it....how much does the general public know about radiation poisoning? Suppose something like this were to happen in our country, would we be ready....has the government given any guidlines? Chernobyl seems to me like it was an event that the government were unprepared for....there was no safety procedure in place or qualified liquidators, who were aware of the full effects.
because the area around the explosion isn't really in bad shape. the only long term effects it's had on the environment is dumping a shitload of minerals back into the soil
So that sarcophagus thing is just a building that is making people think that they are safe??? Damn... I really hate USSR and the government of the ussr(it was before 1992) because they covered everything that happened even the chernobyl disaster. They didn't tell anyone about disaster before the five(or a little bit more days) after disaster
World Health Organization (WHO), attributed 56 direct deaths 47 accident workers, and nine children with thyroid cancer
No evidence of increases in the solid cancers and, possibly more significantly, none of the widely expected increases in leukemia have been found in the population in the last 20 years how many will die with greenhouse and coal smog?
they left a lot of information out regarding the disaster such as the state of the environment around the reactor (which is suprisingly prosperous and healthy), the fact that belarus already had some problems, the fact that the reactor design was grossly outdated even by 1980's standards, the fact that safety protocols were overridden, etc.
Wait, so are there people in favor of Nuclear reactors. One just leaked in Japan from the recent earthquake and the company running it tried to cover it up for a day. I'm not advocating staying with coal and oil. I'm advocating governments spending their (our?) war billions on solar and wind science. We should be able to run our world on the sun and the wind. That's it. No nuclear dust, no greenhouse effect, no smog.
Pres.Bush is a simpleton Themistocles. "We must build war machines." But the Persians of today only march when their societies have been torn by greed. That greed is emanating from Western multinationals. War machines cannot appease underclass rage. If only the terrorist bastards made their point with words, like: oil revenues, national interests, instead of religion this and religion that, Westerners would get the point. But the terrorists are just as blind to themselves as politicians are.
there was a reactor that leaked very low levels of radiation through water. and it's not like they tried to cover it up. they had to figure out exactly what happened and how bad it was before they could really say anything. and it's not like you can spill the high level stuff. that's like spilling an iron rod
