The man professes how much he loves her and she works hard to look good and love him - but he gets drunk and cannot reciprocate to her being wonderful? She looks good so he can "look" at her? and then he feels good, but...

I believe Eric Claptons "music" is wonderful, and he is one of the greats, but this song makes me cringe.
