I think it's a crying shame that Australian children can finish 12 years of schooling and not have been introduced to the beautiful legacy Eric Bogle has given us.
Let's hope "it's not nearly over (yet)". Come back to the Brunswick Music Festival, Eric ..one more time!
I saw him and the boys in Madison, WI some years ago and I chatted with him before he had to change clothes. The concert was great, but the third encore put the concert into another world. The second encore was Little Gomez with the boys. His 3rd encore was just him alone. He introduced the song with one short statement. "Remember that I tried to leave you happy." The song was "Jimmy Dancer." I flew to Oz just to see him twice more. It was money I didn't have, but it was worth it just for Eric.
DVD being recorded by Eric in spring of this year. Live in front of an audience of approx. 120. Available later in the year. Should be worth the wait.
Yeah, no kidding! I sent an email to Eric's website asking if there was an accurate set of guitar tabs published for "Safe in the Harbor". I figured I was writing to some publicist. I got an email back from Eric himself... He ripped the pages out of a songbook, scanned them, and sent them to me. Hell of a guy!
Was looking for performance vids of Eric but there are only covers here, so I mailed him and he said his steam-driven computer does not play YouTube vids well so he doesn't visit but took my word he was 'covered' here.
Saw him and the boys at the Painted Bride in Philly - YEARs ago (cassette era).
He does not think he'll get back to States to perform but ya never know.
I have 'gone out of my way' several times in Melbourne and at Port Fairy Folk Festival to see and hear Eric. Once heard live, you simply want more and more and more!
saw him several years ago great team him and John
