  • @AtomicFox3 I think you meant "low calorie" but, erm..... it's one kind of carb wrapped around another kind of carb. I don't think it's possible to make a light version of this, and I don't even think I'd even want to either. This is pure indulgence.

  • I have not been able to find Gruyere cheese, but I did find some camembert, do you think that would sub good?

  • @Rotorzilla Camembert might be a little soft - but it might work. Gruyere, I'd say is just a fancier swiss cheese. I'm sure you could use the camembert inside the volcano - my question lies more with the mornay sauce... let me know what yo do!! Good Luck!!

I just hope I can find Gruyere cheese here in Japan, If not maybe I can use a mix of of swiss and white Cheddar? maybe I will add a little cayenne to get a lava cheese sauce to give it kick on the tongue. They dont sell butter milk in the stores here so, I have been using SACO cultured buttermilk powder for baking as a replacement.

  • @Smartass8504 I'd sub a white-whole wheat or half whole wheat and half white. The dough should be "fluffy-ish" -- I think all whole wheat flour will be a bit stiff... but you can always give it a try.

  • @lulusapples You could make them smaller - but it is like a sandwich. I thought it was supposed to be like a side dish too, but after experiencing them, it's a meal in itself. At Milkbar in NY, apparently people pick them up in the morning and eat them all day lol :)
