Hey thanks for comming up with this one....you know i started on the boats working as a deckhand on the Skeena river tugs.1961 it was all downhill from there lol. Got my first command there, a little tug called the Paul C. yep knew Ray Skogland too. They would build dry booms, 5 section flat rafts on the river bars in the winter. When the spring freshet came. they all floated and the season was on... they built them as far up as Franks farm at Terrace. I worked on the Skeena for 4 years.
your great grandpa was one hell of a man. A true pioneer. He commands respect and he has mine. This has always been a favorite video of mine. If you have any films or photos you would feel right about about posting, please get them up on here, because he was a true history maker.
My dad logged the coast and interior in those days, falling and skidding mostly. I'd of loved to follow in his footsteps but the industry has gone to pot and the bark beetles obliterate the forests. Thanks for uploading this, even if i'm a bit late!
The pay was not bad too 275 bucks a month, when i got the Paul C it went up to 485, boy i was in the chips. hahaha
