The Weber stuff only has a couple weeks once air hits it. I vacuum seal them. They're virtually identical to WetFire so far as I can determine, but much much cheaper.
come on people use your brains here, how can weber produce cubes packaged like that if you open one all 24 go bad? im sure there not marketed for the 72 hours of constant grilling. they have to remain fine once you use one
Another good tinder, though I doubt is water proof, is petroleum jelly/Vaseline soaked cotton balls.
Just take a ziplock bag of some sort, put in a pretty decent amount of some vaseline, add some cotton balls, and work through till the cotton is saturated with it.
@AznAlacran No worries :) I have found that it's pretty water resistant as long as I leave it in a packed ball, but it's easier to light when I fluff it up. It's actually my tinder of choice since it's so cheap and easy to make and it works for the vast majority of situations. Thanks for you comments!
Very good demo and tips! Interesting about the aged Wet Fire not working, very good to know. I wonder if placing the Weber Cubes in ziplock bags and storing them in persevere jars at home will help prolong there life span when not in use?
@CaptainFur Good suggestion! I had some in ziploc bags, some still kind of sealed in the blister pack, and some exposed, but a preserve jar wouldn't be a bad idea either! I'll let you know what happens in a few weeks!

so... what's the verdict? are the weber cubes worth it? will they degrade after being exposed to the open air? does the wax covering work?

@SurvivorGeekVideos What about covering the weber cubes in paraffin wax?

@PandaTactics Good suggestion, I'll have to try that out. I'd be willing to bet that would be a good solution to the problem. Thanks!
