  • he also did the underwater scenes for the James Bond movie Never Say Never Again, EPIC shark scene.

  • @jamesmintendonerd - And more importantly, the original..."Thunderball." The underwater battle toward the end of that film is CLASSIC!

  • The problem with a remake isn't with the filmmakers, it's with the audiences. Audiences these days think they're more savvy, but they really aren't. They say they're too sophisticated to buy a guy in a suit, so the filmmakers use CGI, and then they complain that CGI is being used. They are simply unable to suspend their disbelief enough to enjoy a fantasy horror movie like the ones released in the 40s and 50s.

  • what's the ideal height for swimming?

  • Certainly a crappy remake will be produced - anything with a recognizable title is remade.

  • If they remake it and its not GC he should play the creature.

  • Really cool guy. All hail the Creature!

  • of course it would be CG.. everythings in CG these days

  • what a thoroughly nice guy...ricou you are a legend

  • Awesome...... Just awesome!

  • This man ROCKS!!!! He made those movies great.

  • Kinda reminds me of Abe Sapien from Hellboy. Doug Jones portrays that character really well underwater just like Ricou Browning in Creature From the Black Lagoon. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one's better than the other, I'm just saying that they're pretty similar in my opinion. Anyone agree?

  • I love all the original monsters. The creature was always my favorite...besides Frankenstien of course. James I am jealouse you have had the honor of meeting the creature from the black lagoon.

  • oh my god that is amazing

  • yeah! if they make a remake please!!! don't make it a CG please!

  • The movie was filmed like an hour from where i live

  • James, life seems to be taking you good places man! There's something really special about seeing you interviewing the friggin' creature from the Black Lagoon himself! It makes me happy to see you doing so well and getting to do these things!

I think a remake has the -potential- to be amazing, but we all know that likelihood is depressingly abysmal. -_- I wonder what Wolfman's gonna be like..

I guess it's always good to try, you never know when something might turn out to be awesome.

  • awesome video

  • that would be an awsome halloween costume. nice video James.

  • The film is awesome, and I personally don't see the need to remake it. But if they do, I just hope they don't use shitty CGI, to be honest, the rubber suit looks more convincing and will always look more awesome then a CGI version of it.

  • to late it is getting remade don't believe me check imdbdotcom to prove it sorry fans

  • I agree. The suit is one of the many icons of the old classic films. A remake in unnecessary, but a CGI creature from the Black Lagoon would be the cherry on the shit sundae.

It may look kind of silly, but I think a tangible suit is more frightening than something obviously computer generated...

  • great interview james

  • i hope it dosent get remade

  • The greatest underwater stunt man ever!

  • Yep! I've seen him interviewing several people from classic horror movies!

  • No shit ! AVGN = Cinemassacre

  • He isn't really like that, you know...

He isn't angry all the time!

  • Yeah, i know, James Rolfe, is a tremendous actor

  • You don't need to overreact. He not an Anthony Hopkins you know

  • more like

    Cinemassacre = AVGN

  • AVGN!

  • Real sweet guy..Ricou..

  • Great job as always James. Look forward too more work, and love the shorts your putting up and also the in the work production updates, i look forward too your movies release.

  • I'm surprized that one of the monsters is still alive.Very good film for its time. You did a good review, you get 5stars.

  • Wow you guys are really.... resourceful!

  • TOM SERVO FOR PRESIDENT!

  • it might come out in 2011

  • Awesome! The original film is one of my all time favorites...I'm going t keep tabs on Blobfest, and make sure I don't miss out on a chance of meeting him the next time. I hope that if the Creature remake does happen (which I hear it is actually), he gets something out of it, either as a consultant, or someone who has the final word on a new Creature design.

  • Your invitation has been sent!

    please do take it ;)

    peace

  • James this is such an incredible suite and clips this is my first time i see the monster and it is so amazingly realistic and gracefull

  • llooool swimm smoooth .. that was awesome!

  • nice swimming i wish i could do that

  • he has a wife

  • we all know that (if your talking about the AVGN), its pointed out a bit in "the making of the Final Battle" on "thatguywiththeglasses(dot)Com" under the nostalgia critic's video tab.

  • right it was AVGN's wife who tied Critic's tie

  • Exactly. that was what i was trying to point to.

  • James looks like a child on Christmas day^^ GJ

  • im just interested that the nintendo nerd isn't cursing every 5 secs, actually not at all. 0.0

  • on here hes just james, avgn is a carracter he plays (kinda). got to remember that :P

  • Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of my favourite movies. I haven't seen sequels. :(

  • Wow you got to meet him!

  • At this point I think you are the luckiest sob alive

  • Why remake a classic? The movie industry seems so contrived to me these days, countless remakes and sequels coming out non stop. It seems the men in suits have taken over and everything is about money.

  • everything ALWAYS is about the money

  • I know, its a sad world we live in. BUT MEN IN LATEX MONSTER SUITS MAKE IT BETTER DAMN IT!

  • I first watched Creature From The Black Lagoon with my friend on Halloween night this year. We both enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a very thrilling movie despite low production values, it made both of our blood rush. Creature from the Black Lagoon is definitely one of my favorite films now days...

I hope they don't computer generate the Gillman in the remake. I hope they go underwater and film a guy in a rubber suit, and ENHANCE that with CGI to make it look more photo-realistic and living.

  • sweeeeet, how did you get the chance to interview with some one like that!

  • Nicely done! For winging it, you asked some pretty relevant questions. And Ricou Browning was very matter-of-fact with his answers. Very cool!

  • The creature suit in Monster Squad looked badass. If they do remake it, it should look like that, and not cgi, that'd be retarded.

  • very cool interview James. Keep it up

  • Classic. Good stuff, James.

  • How did you get this interview? It's great.

  • It's James, who could turn down an interview with him.

  • i love these films and im only 15 watched this when i was 10 as i couldnt watch tv for some reason on tapes and this and other movies like it came from outerspace was the only tapes we had. although they broke when my dad redone the living room i still watch them on sky movies :P but the remake i hate the most is the increadable hulk ones. its confusing now!

  • i enjoy it and iam 14 and iam going to enjoy cinemassacre and avgn for my hole life

  • This creature is very similar to what I imagine the sea-people from H.P. Lovecrafts "Shadow Over Innsmouth" look like. This thing just looks so cool.

  • Is this the guy that wasn't in the credits?

  • Nice one James !

  • oh no i clicked 4 stars out of 5 instead of 5

  • oops

  • Pretty cool stuff there. Though I too hope for the remake they don't go all CG, if done improperly it can ruin the experience.

  • I can tell ya why the Creature became a cult icon. Just look at it. It looks great! The Creature's a kickass monster from a kickass movie with a unique, instantly recognizable and badass look. Sure it's obviously a dude in a suit but the suit is awesome.

  • Thank you, James!

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing this interview, James. And thanks to Ricou Browning for having that "sit down" with ya.

  • cool :)!

  • cool

  • very cool

  • Nice!

  • Wow, thats the creature?!?! That is pretty awesome YOU got to Interview him James!

  • This was great! Creature from the Black Lagoon was the first movie to scare me when I was a lil' kid.

  • Cool! I have always wondered who was the uy who played the creature!

  • Wow what a great opportunity to talk to a legend of classic horror.

Great interview James, Cinemassacre still has some of the best candid interviews

  • Their will be a remake, set to come out in 2011

  • remake better be good.

  • I think you mean THERE will be a remake.

  • yeah, I mean "there" always getting the two mixed up...well that's another reason for all you kids to stay in school ;p

  • I loved this movie when i was a kid!

  • James you are very cool guy! i 'd deffinately want to hang out with you!

    keep it up!

  • He's a pretty cool guy.

He fights innocent civilians and doesn't afraid of anything!

  • Remakes suck....the only remake I'm looking forward to is 7 Samurai because I believe the original guy is remaking it?

  • the only time a remake is needed imo is when the original is rubbish. But wy do they insist on remaking classics? they're alrady great, how do they expect to top them?

its the crappy films that need remade!

  • They remake good films because Hollywood is the domain of Satan and he wants to ruin the memories of all the beloved stories ever told and fill them with mind numbing garbage! Yes, Hollywood is Hell and I'm pretty sure all the movie execs in the world are the offspring of Lucifer. Satan himself resides in Washington where he enjoys a fat salary and frequent tax breaks.

  • That suit is bitchin'

  • Nice video and well edited. Your interviewing is a little nervous though? Good though well done! ;o)

  • I loved that movie as a kid. Cool interview.

  • he looks good for his age...must be all that swimming

  • first

  • Truth is most remakes are not as good as the originals, it would be a mistake if they remade Creature from the Black Lagoon.

  • Nice interview James. I loved the movie... it was so cool.

  • Very cool.

Great interview and asked all the right stuff.

    I liked it.

  • nice

  • as always we get the best of the filmhistory!

    good one James!

  • Good work James! And good Questions for beeing unprepared! It looks like Browning is not a bighead like some other actors. For example Tom Savini sometimes acts like a cocky asshole. I like his movies but not himself.

  • Fuck remakes!!!!! I am SO sick of them!

  • Idk. I think Bible:Satan Strikes Back, will be a GREAT remake. They are taking the bible, making it into a movie only modern day with guns and shit

  • sorta like that romeo+juliet movie?

  • they are making a remake, it's coming out in 2011 and being directed by Breck Eisner

  • Breck died 13 months ago, so no.

  • Breck Eisner is not dead! I don't know where you get your crazy ideas from but don't you think it would be on the news?

  • i LOVED those old movies. =]

  • wow im only 12 and i love that movie

  • Great interview...its allways nice to meet the real heroes..

  • Thanks for doing that. It's fascinating to hear from someone we don't normally see being interviewed. Should they do a remake, it might be nice to have Mr. Browning do a cameo.

  • key hole

  • So the merman in Darkstalkers is based off the original actor. Wait, is the creature from the Blue Lagoon really a merman or just a some sort of crazy toxic monster.

  • "It was like looking thru a pee hole" ?!

  • key hole

  • Key hole.

  • if they re do the creature in CG i hope that an outburst of fans will start calling the studio lazy and shit like that cuz thats wat it is LAZY! Its not that hard a guy in a suit big woop, just hide the zipper

  • i used to be crazy about the creature from the black lagoon as a kid

  • I met him! Really nice guy and the best movie monster! soooo underrated

  • For some reason i think you're really cute in these interview vids. When you nod along like that im like "naaaw".

  • How exciting! I wish I could meet my heroes at random places...But I suppose it wasn't that random.

  • I luv this movie

  • Great interview.

  • over 9000 views

  • sweet. nice one

  • omg sweet!

  • James is so starstruck. really funny. The reason its so popular is because movies like these set the idea and structure for all the horror movies today.

  • yeah i noticed that too good for him getting to meet him

  • I hope that the remake won't make Gillman lay eggs and run away like a coward until it gets easily killed just like Godzilla in the 1998 version.

  • nice one James!!! 5 stars =D

  • That was nice James.

    Thank you.

  • A Chat with Ricou Browning

  • Everything is CGI these days it is so boring and unimaginative

  • i personally hope that they do NOT remake "the creature". redo any other movie that you (meaning hollywood) want too, but seriously!! LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE!!!!!

  • they sadly never do

  • I love the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the two sequals, James you have been meeting with some great people its good to see your such a good fan of classic horror films!

  • neat interview

  • good interview james

  • Great interview. Ricou Browning really gave great details about the suit. Great job, Cinemassacre. You guys are truely the best ^^

  • Awesome

  • go 50's !!!!!!

  • u are so lucky meeting tom savini and ricou browning

  • i love how cinemassacre talks about old and classic things. gives a nice nostalgic feeling.

  • Agree. Guess that's the magic of Cinemassacre, making the old classics well known again. Especially the horror classics ofcourse, since they are Cinemassacre after all :P

  • I've seen it :)

  • Nice vid. Thank you!

  • that man is so cool.

  • It must've been difficult filming underwater. He must have had divers with him or something to give him emergency air if it all went horribly wrong

  • it really is a great costume. i wonder if there is still one existing

  • This is cool! I am an oldschool horror buff, as a kid my friends collected MAD AND CRACKED magazine (OK I DID TOO) but I cherished more my colection of Warren publications especially Famous Monsters magazine, amazing how at one time like when movies like this were made the costumes and props used to be thrown out, in fact that orignal Creature suit was discarded originally after filming but rediscovered later until such things became collectors items due to demand from fans lol.

  • cool.

  • Sweet - nice interview James :)

  • Nice interview James. I can't imagine how it must have been like to interview the actor of the original Creature. Must have been great.

I just hope that, if a new Creature movie is made, they don't use CGI to make the Creature. I can't stand CGI when its overused in movies, especially in horror movies. Part of the thrill of horror movies is the feeling that what your looking at could happen, but when they use CGI it really takes the feeling of reality out of the movie.

  • i dont think CGI will be the answer cus the alien suit, the T-rex robot, and alot of other movies dont use CGI for the most part

  • What are you talking about? If the CGI is good enough, you don't get that feeling. I don't really understand what people have against CGI. I understand that you don't want the Creature to be CG, but some things can't be done without CGI. At least it's not as stiff as stop-motion or animatronics. Have you seen "Jurassic Park"? THAT is some good CGI! It shouldn't be overused, but sometimes it's just necessary.

  • It's just that when people are CG they look a little unnatural (uncanny valley anyone?). It's difficult to notice anything wrong with a dinosaur because you (or at least I) haven't seen one in real life. Just give me an example of some good CGI film with CG people.
