The album is LK 4088 and contains a superb (dare I say show-stealing!) set from Alex Welsh and tracks from Ken Colyer and the Lonnie Donegan Skiffle Group. Oh and also the greatest clarinet solo of all time in the Chris Barber version of "Oh Didn't He Ramble!
Brings back great memories of the young guys I used to knock around with when Barber and the gang were at their best. I actually preferred British traditional jazz to American because it seemed more spontaneous and was just a bunch of guys having a good time. No drugs or self-loathing; lots of booze though. I still have this original record stashed away in the house somewhere.
Chris Barber do you remember the days at the White Hart Southall Mybrother in law tells me R.I.P you used to come on with the line What do you want boys some Ice Creanm..............
Either your cleaning software is better than mine or you have not played this too much. I think this was recorded at the National Jazz Federation Festival of Jazz. I was there I think didn't he ramble was next and last Item that night. Ah memories.
As the record jacket shows it was at the Royal Festival Hall. It is the genuine EP, well used over the years. My software is Audacity, the record deck having a USB output.
Yeah thanks for that! I missed this set of EP's although I do have a couple of the Barber in Berlin set also 1954 with 12,000 people in the Deuchlande Hall(spelling?). The atmosphere can be felt even on a recording that old. Does this set have Climax Rag on it?
Many, many thanks for posting; this actual recording is the very first jazz record I ever heard - my mother often played this single when we were living overseas some 40 years ago. She still has the single, tho it sounds a lot scratchier now than this version!
Te lody są przewspaniałe,jedyne w swoim rodzaju.Dziękuję i serdecznie pozdrawiam.

The band at their best (in my view), they really seemed to 'have the spirit' then.
