  • Thanks a lot for the tutorial. Recorded perfectly. =)

  • Comment removed

  • I WANA KNOW HOW TO RECORD BOTH!!!! PLEASE EXPLAIN

  • Didn't even help???

  • Is it possible to record your system sounds and your microphone at the same time?

  • I dont have the stereo mix option

  • This was clear and helpful plus with additional info in the Windows 7: Finding Stereo Mix clip as well. Something to include, Audacity didn't acknowledge the change and when I hit record I kept getting the, "error while opening sound device" until I shut Audacity down and opened it up again.

  • Thank you man!!

    Helped a lot!

  • thank u

  • note: you can still do this with windows sound recorder.

  • i get a loud ringing sound and an echo.

  • @qweef69 @7spiffy

In the new beta version, there is an option in the toolbar where you can choose the playback and record devices. You can skip this video, and just choose the "Primary Sound Capture" from the drop-down menu on the lower toolbar.

  • @LukeWapelhorst thanx i got it,thanx.the problem was with the volume output slider being up.when you record with it up it gives a crazy ringing, and an echo.

  • i got it to work but i get an echo in the sound while playing back what i recorded

  • Okay... After doing this and STILL having Audacity screw up, now I can't re-enable my mic.

  • @NewOakFilms could u please help me with audacity i have done eveything in this vid and everytime i click on the greeen play button or the red record button it says "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate." plz help me i'm not that good and smart with computers and audacity

  • Thank you so much for clarifying this and helping me figure out why I could not get the sound off my soundcard! I have used Audacity in XP for years but my computer died and now I have Vista and I thought I was going mad because I could only see the line in option. You have explained it very clearly and made my life a lot easier .....I thought I was going nuts but now I understand about enabling the sound card . Good job buddy!!!!

  • Skip to 1:25 if you want to skip all the intro stuff.

  • thanks

  • I use a program called Sound Tap Streaming Audio Recorder or you can use Free Studio to encode the video to a mp3 audio file and download it to your PC.

Audacity is good but can be a bit awkward when it comes to configuring the sound card especially if you have more than 1 like I do.......

  • wow dude ty so much

  • download it from realtek

  • I could not find Stereo mix on my coumputer. I am useing windows 7, and I have found everything you were talking about. but the stereo mix, do I REALLY need it to record a video on youtube?

  • It does not even work mate!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

  • Ok I got as far as getting the check mark next to stereo mix but when I hit record in audacity it says "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate." ???

  • oh my god hurryyy up

  • it tells me,"error while opening sound device. please check the input device settings and the project sample rate." when i hit record. anyone know how to fix it?

  • thanks! :)

  • @iamowe92 Is your microphone working right? And is the recording set to that microphone?

  • For those who still aren't aren't seeing Stereo Mix , you're most likely under the 'Playback' tab, not the 'Recording' tab.

  • When I press the record button:

Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.

Does anyone know how I can fix that? Thanks

  • thanks

  • buy a fucking mic......

  • if you dont see stereo mix right click and check the box "Show disabled items" or somthing like that

  • @grimgrape ty ^^

  • i knew this b4 but when i click it it dusnt come up pl0x help :(

  • If you don't see stereo mix... here is a great tut how to get it ^^

    youtube.com/watch?v=GmI4i54jwEY

  • If you dont have a stereo mix, if you hav an AUX cable that has both ends as the headphone thing, you can connect it where your speakers go, then to ur 'Line In'/microphone and record that way. my pc doesnt hav stereomix so thats how i record

  • @MSilverKatana Win WIn Win!!! Ty! :D

  • FUCK THIS!!!

  • for it to show stereo mix, you have to oopen up the recording devices thing, right click in the white space of the box, and click "show disabled devices" =4D

  • @7410pie Done that , doesnt work

  • when i tried to record on audacity its said i have to check the imput device settings what does that mean?

  • Thanks! I found this tutorial helpful, but there was one thing that kept me from doing any recordings. After you enable your stereo mix, click on stereo mix and go to properties -> levels tab and make sure the volume isn't at 0. I set mine to 30, and the recording was plenty loud without me having to crank up my speakers.

  • stereo mix shows, ut set as default doesnt

  • if u want to find stereo mix right click in the white space and check the box that says "show disabled Devices

  • @minecraftmainian still cant see it

  • THANKS A LOTTTT

i'm not using audacity but still the first part was clear unlike some other videos that are CONFUSING

  • You can export audio projects as mp3 files...all you have to do is download the encoder from audacity. You're not limited to wav only

  • IF you cannot find stereo mix, watch the video response! do thumbs up so that others might see.

  • Where can I download this *stereo mix*?

    >.<)

  • Thanks for sharing, you rock!!! Up and running.

  • I am recording drums from a 10 channel mixer. For some reason it is as phased and horrible sounding when recorded. Is the stereo mix the issue? Cause the sound from the phones on the mixer is fine.. Thanks for the post.

  • I got the stereo mix-thingy in audacity and all that but it still wont record any sound :/

  • I only have microphone i did show disabled devices but microphone is the only thing Im on windows 7 HELP!!

  • @icecream835

I also have the same problem =(

  • thank you

  • You rock man!!!!

Some advice for those who had to find the mix in the 2nd vid: do what the tutorial says. If you can't see it, close and re-open. If worked here!

    Thanks a lot!

  • I found Stereo Mix!

  • FUCK THIS SHIT PROGRAM

  • ?i=945812

  • this isnt a trial program is it, or is it free forever

  • when i right click on stereo mix set as defult is not there any HELP?

  • Thanks (y)

  • The stereo mix wasn't there when i started but your other video fixed the problem, if you go to recording deviced and click on stereo mix the properties at the bottom of the tab, a new window appears click levels at the top of that and you can adjust the levels of the stereo mix (set at 20) i cranked it upto 100 and you get a 1 to 1 record rather than it coming out quiet on Audacity

  • lol ive got stereo mix :P

  • how do u get Stero Mix

  • i have a problem...it wont let me save, add effects, export as mp3 in fact the only thing it does is record and thats about it. Theres not much i can do with a recording that wont go anywhere.

    can you help me somehow?

  • nasty feedback...how is that possible? no output...

  • so....im getting a nasty feedback...oooo weee what up with dat, what up with dat? how am I getting feedback with no actual output? hmmmm

  • When I right click on the Speaker icon and click "recording devices" On the list their is no "Stereo Mix" as you say...

  • @lilserge911 DOWNLOAD IT!

  • When I right click on stereo mix, there isn't an option to set it as default device.

  • thanks for the hints - but when it comes to recording devices in my windows7, i just have "Auxiliary" and "S/PDIF in".. no "Stereo Mix" (of course did show disabled/ disconnected by rightclick)

any glue what can do when not having this "stereo mix" as it is key in your guide ;-)

    i'am using Creative Xi-Fi...

  • @tronicson even mine lets try that

  • no stereo mix on mine, i even updated the driver and still nothing.

  • me too nothing...

  • my alternate solution was downloading iSound recorder for Windows 7. It's free software but it only records 100 seconds at a time. It's a good thing I don't need it for that long.

  • can you help me

how can i make it a mp3 file

    thanks!

  • Yup i got the exact same thing. right clicked the volume icon. went to recording and no stereo mix...

  • Dw took me a while but I downloaded realtek drivers and it worked...

  • i dont have windows and when i go to the drop down menu where your supposed to click on stereo mix is supposed to be the menu won't let me click on it so it's recording nothing

  • same

  • I right-clicked on "Recording Devices" and checked "Show Disabled Devices", and Stero Mix isn't there.

  • what are your options they provide you with?

  • @NewOakFilms

A Microphone. Just a microphone. Im assuming its inside my computer.

  • @NewOakFilms i have the same problem. it only shows microphone.

  • @NewOakFilms When I clicked record on Audacity it said "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate." I don't know what to do. Please help me.

  • @ForbiddenVegetable I had the same problem, i simply restarted audacity and it worked ok, don't know if its just an intermittant error. Im on windows 7 but running audacity in vista SP2 because the beta seems really unstable on 7

  • @NewOakFilms I have Windows 7 and the generic Realtek sound on my Vaio CW laptop, and the only options I have in the Recording tab are the built in mic, the mic jack, and my USB mic. Stereo mix isn't an option. So of course it's not an option in Audacity

  • @NewOakFilms

hey new oak, I have the same problem.... I have no "stereo mix" in my recording devices... I clicked on "show all devices' and it isn't there either... I have windows 7 and I had no problem with my old computers XP?... whats up?

  • @NewOakFilms the microphone one that it !!

  • @rbtclol If you still havnt worked it out here it is:

right click on the white bit (where there are no icons but still in the box) and click show disabled deviced. At the bottem (or it is for me) there is stereo mix

hope that helps if you havnt got it working =]

  • @rbtclol you need to download Stereo mix

  • i checked "show disabled" and "show unplugged" but still no streo mix

i use windows 7 and all there is are:

    Microphone

    Microphone

    Line in

    Digital Audio [S/PDIF]

  • Hmmm... I'd say your best bet is to try out "Digital Audio". I'm thinking that because it's sounds like an on-board hardware, rather then something you add to your PC. Ultimately, that's what you want,- your on-board audio device.

  • @NewOakFilms ive set everything to stereo mix but it still wont record. im running windows 7 as are you can you tell me which version of audacity you are using?

  • @zorbaner same here thers no stereo mix but im on vista

  • when i click on recording section it only show 2 Microphone. No Stero

  • right click where its blank in the window, the check "Show Disabled Devices". let me know if this doesnt work.

  • @NewOakFilms *THANK YOU* *THANK YOU* this comment helped me fix my movie maker. Windos ruined movie maker for Win7. So I downloaded Vista movie maker from microsoft. However I couldn't record music from the internet like I could on my old computer. After endless stress & hours with useless Indian tech support. I Then I saw this vid & comment. I enabled my stereo mix & that fixed everything. Now I can use vista movie maker 2.6 to record sound. Its the best & most popular. Thanks.

  • @RvLanee Download Stereo mix

  • This is really helpful. thank you :)
