I had a kid show me one of these when I was in Tena, Ecuador and I ended up buying it. It is an Elephant Beetle. They can be anywhere from yellow to black in colour and they eat rotting fruit as an adult.

They do not bite, but their grip is impressively strong. The beetle I had actually ripped my shirt when I tried to remove it. It also drew blood from my skin by holding on to my arm with those claws as I tried to remove it.

Right, they pinch with their wings (no). Everyone knows elytra can bite. Megasomas have no pincers on their mouthparts OR wings. That beetle was/is harmless.

dynastes hercules is little bit longer but megasoma beetles like this on the video is much heavier and wider. Megasoma beetles is a rhinoceros they are all in the Dynastidae family. Megasoma beetles can grow to 120 mm. and hercules beetles can grow to amazing almost 180 cm.

Their shells are amazingly tough and they can take quite a bit of punishment. Not that I've ever tried. But I have seen video of someone trying to kill a beetle this size and it wouldn't die!
